Yeah I was kinda confused because Arise is the best selling game of the series (3 million)

wondering if part of me liking it so much was I played it right when life was starting to straighten back out for me

Oh ok that makes more sense, I forgot there were quite a few games from that era that were PS3 to PS4 so that threw me off (especially since outside Japan they didnt get a PS3 version)

that said for the most part Berserias sales have recovered enough to get to 2.5 million? It could have been word of mouth or just that games in general are accessible with PC releases too. Dont think its considered a failure now

Berseria did not have great timing. It was a follow-up to a bad game and released at the end of a generation. It managed to do semi-okay purely through word of mouth.

well that would be news to me! As a ARPG the gameplay has been the primary selling point (story generally is not as terrible as people say even if it generally has a ex machina plot point) apart from that I guess you have some funny skits/party interaction?

Combat is important, but Graces isn't super popular despite running laps on that front for a reason.

timing is generally the reason the Graces/Xillia duo do not take off (being locked into PS3 late gen too) Meanwhile Symphonia/Berseria/Vesperia/Arise all had great timing for releases which helped with them.

I guess you could counter with Abyss but PS2 was always way more popular than PS3.

I dunno I think Arise basically laps everything non Graces in combat, and if you dont play Tales for combat then why are you playing it in the first place

I also enjoy the party quite a bit too
