Also I'm holding off on watching the show until Season 1 is out (in full) and I hear if they botched it. No need to go through that heartbreak if it turns out to screw things up.

You don't need the other characters, true. You're just missing out on a significant portion of the varying gameplay styles and characters if you decide not to engage in gambling which, again, the game heavily incentivizes and leads you towards participating in. These aren't just skins or cosmetics. Even if you're going to give Genshin Impact a free pass on this (which you should not), why would you expect game critics to, when they're one of the groups of people that care the most about companies releasing complete games?

No, you can't. The majority of the rewards you get from playing Genshin Impact are related to random chance rolling for things you will hopefully maybe get but probably not. It's tied into every aspect of the game's feedback loop, and while you can technically play the game without thinking about the gacha aspect, the game is designed to make you care about it. The fact that it locks 90% of the characters - each with different gameplay styles - behind the gacha is a black mark all on its own.

Would it have gotten some recognition if it wasn't a gacha? Possibly. But it is, and don't expect game critics to give those sort of games much recognition when there's plenty of other offerings that aren't based on predatory gambling.

Zelda stories are fun to experience, but I wouldn't call them particularly memorable most of the time. Majora's Mask is the only one that felt like anything other than a different variation of The Hero's Journey.

What news fans would that be, though? MGS' time in the limelight is over. There's no impetus for people to go back and play it for the first time. Additionally, availability/rereleases only make a noticeable difference for games that aren't already popular. It barely moves the needle for established titles.

Not really. Let's Go P/E and Samus Returns are close to 1:1 remakes in many ways. The perspective shift from 2D to 3D alone makes FF7R a vastly different experience, and it also has voice acting, graphics that are way way more advanced, significantly expanded cutscenes, and a new battle system.

Funnily enough, I'm white and have loved basically every comedy skit that Chappelle skit did that focused on criticizing on white people

It's always interesting to see the cost sunk fallacy at work though - say some stupid stuff in a topic series while drunk, come back later both to defend that stupid opinion out of a desire to make both yourself and the celebrity you worship look better

Generally, you want your Book 2 to come out within three months of Book 1. This helps build and retain series momentum. I also used to be releasing on Dec 9th, away from Defiance 3, and gradually moved the launch period up for various algorithm reasons. And it would've been fine without Mother of Learning randomly choosing to release on Dec 1st for no discernible reason (the two following weeks were clear of competition).

Thanks! I'm enjoying my screenshot fun while it lasts, as after today, things get a bit dicey.

Next few days are going to be crucial. On the 30th (essentially, in 2 hours) Defiance of the Fall 3 releases on amazon, which is probably the 2nd-biggest LitRPG series on the market right now. On December 1st, Mother of Learning releases, which is the top-rated series on Royal Road. Both are going to hit Kindle like a freight train.

I'm glad that my Book 2 came out swinging, because those two releases are definitely going to eat into my launch to a certain degree. Defiance 3 probably starts ranking higher than me (although I should be competitive), and Mother of Learning...not sure. It's going to be big, but it's not Kindle Unlimited, which means its thankfully not as big of a competition as it would be otherwise.

The main advantage I have now is that I released earlier by a little bit - which was intentional. I used to be releasing on Dec 2nd. Wasn't happy about Defiance of the Fall 3 coming out a few days prior to my book, but I was willing to roll with it until Mother of Learning announced its release date out of nowhere like, two weeks ago. Then I had to get out of dodge. Rushing to get everything prepared for a Nov 29nd released instead of a Dec 2nd release was...interesting!
