Yes.

When you've fucked up as spectacularly as they have, there's no moving on. They're much better off to hit the reset button. Make Han a Black man and Luke a woman. Redesign Palpatine to look like Trump.

But put some fucking effort into it. Star Wars was not only imaginative, it was well-paced. It's stories reached logical conclusions. It's characters were memorable and fun.

Above all else, they should remember that Star Wars is a fantasy story with a science fiction paintjob. Just having a bunch of people in helmets shooting lasers is missing the point. Star Wars's nearest comparison isn't Star Trek; it's Lord of the Rings.

It makes literally the same mistake as Ghostbusters II: "Our heroes have done nothing since 1984 but sit in the mud and feel sorry for themselves because there are no more ghosts and most people don't believe they ever existed."

Ghostbusters is one of the all-time feelgood movies. Winston, covered in marshmallow, raising his hands in the air and shouting "I love this town!" is on a even higher cloud than Rocky's iconic "Adrian, I did it!" (I will die on that hill.) Now you're telling me that few people believed them, nothing has happened since 1984, and Egon became a deadbeat dad who abandoned his friends and family alike to go on a personal multi-decade mission to stop Gozer? Bullshit!

Bullshit.

The mini Mr. Stay Puff scene was brilliant. All of the other highlights were beat for beat retreads of the original movie. The Key Master growls, chases, and possesses a cornered victim. The Gatekeeper possesses a woman and says, "There is no (name/title), only Zuul!" Gozer pets the Terror Dogs and asks, "Are you a god?" They capture a voracious but mostly harmless ghost which escapes by film's end. I don't feel like I'm watching a sequel which closely follows the original. I feel like I'm watching a clip show which repeats literally the same footage.

It's unavoidable that Egon had to die between films. They didn't have to say though that he spent the last decades of his life in isolation and ridicule. And there's no real reason for the lack of new content. If you lack imagination, steal from another source. A scene lifted from Jurassic Park or Alien is going to feel more fresh in the Ghostbusters universe than a scene lifted from Ghostbuster 1.

He was played by Raul Julia in the movie and his Japanese name is Vega. To avoid a lawsuit over Mike Bison, they swapped around the names of three of the bad guys. Balrog became Vega, Mike Bison became Balrog, and Vega became M. Bison. M not specified but typically translated as a military title of Major Bison.

Because his stage is set in Thailand, I tend to them of him being of a Thai ethnic background. But it makes sense that be would be a Latino if his "true" name is Vega. It's just something that never really clicked with me until just now. I'm watching a review of X-Men vs. Street Fighter and, apparently, Vega's (M. Bison's) name was left unchanged in all regions.

The last time I played Super Mario 64, the joystick on my controller was so bad that I couldn't do a proper spin. Bowser won the first fight.

When I went back later in the day, I figured out I could build momentum in the swing by holding the joystick in one direction and changing camera angles. I used that to build momentum and threw Bowser into the bomb.

TopicIt seems like we'll never solve racism.

Racism cannot be solved because it is constantly nourished. It acts as the right hand of capitalism. And even in non-capitalist societies, setting the majority against the minority is still an effective strategy for controlling the population as a whole.

Racism stems from hatred, misunderstanding, and a desperate need for consolation. It can only be defeated through friendship, equality, understanding, and a removal of the need for the false-consolation of imagined superiority.

That's why the media chooses methods of subtle antagonism. They know it encourages and perpetuates bigotry. White society doesn't mind they're getting shortchanged so long their treatment is still preferential to that of Black society -- at least so believe those who profit from bigotry.

Ooh, now that's cool.

I'm glad they had an adaptation where Batman finally went through with putting the Joker down. I could be wrong, but I think that's only the second time the Joker has ever been killed in a live action adaptation.

I'd be interested in seeing a female Batman Begins like scenario where Joker killed Bats.

I'm curious about the omission of "All references to Arabs."

Is it because management didn't want the performers singling out Arabs and maligning them? Or is it because Arab jokes would have included sexual content such allusions to rape or women being sold at market? (Note: These were stereotypes found in films of the 1920s. The Sheik, The Sea Hawk, etc.)

Maybe I should have posted this back in October, but I there's something I realized about this movie. David mentions The Wolf Man starring Lon Chaney and Claude Rains. It occurs to me that this is a 1981 movie referencing a 1941 movie. There's as much temporal distance between now and when An American Werewolf came out as there was between An American Werewolf and the Wolf Man.

You're right. I'm not sure why I Love Lucy is officially recognized as the first tv series to do reruns (1955). IMDB says that The Lone Ranger reruns started on Saturday mornings in 1953. I guess there's some sort of distinction that I'm missing?

But I've always heard of how much influence Lucy had on television. Didn't know that extended to Star Trek. That's pretty cool.

Could it be that I Love Lucy appeared on the same channel while Lone Ranger appeared in syndication on other channels?
