Why do people keep thinking the Witcher is based on a game? It's based on the book series.

Anyway, I think it's far and away Arcane right now. Castlevania was great, but quality dipped over time. The Witcher is good but a mess, you need a guide to understand what's actually going on with that timeline.

As a non-American but someone who has turkey in typical rotation for evening meals with several other meats... I'm inclined to agree with OP. Can Turkey be good? Sure, but pretty much any other meat I've had is better on average.

"It depends on how you prepare it" feels irrelevant, because you can say that about pretty much any food. What I know is that the best turkey dish I've ever had doesn't hold a candle to the best pork/beef/lamb/chicken dish I've had.
It might feel irrelevant to you as a non-American, but certain cooking techniques that have been passed down as family tradition are cause for the bad turkey. Put aside the bland part, turkey shouldn't be coming out dry. When it does it's because it was cooked wrong, just like mom/grandma/g.grandma etc did it. The turkey I had this year was anything but dry and bland.

I actually thought the musical was pretty weak. Maybe because it was just a side piece that they didn't put too much effort into? It didn't look or feel like something that would be dominating ON Broadway so much as a local theater company taking their stab at it. It would be hella fun if they did a full length version of it that they really put the effort behind.

Turkey only comes out dry if the person cooking it doesn't really know what they're doing. It also doesn't have to be bland - that is once again a sign of lacking skill in the cooking department.

A lot of the things people think they know about cooking turkey is wrong. You should never stuff it or baste it. You should also look into marinades and seasonings for turkey. People tend not to since it's such a big bird, but you can add flavor. Also, as pointed out, dark meat, people. It always tastes better than the white meat.

The new season is one big, eight-part series, and it's great. They swung for the fences and so far it looks like a home run. I think the problem with the last two seasons isn't an abundance of bad episodes but the lack of stellar ones and man... they killed it with the most recent episode. Definitely the best of the Chibnall/Whittaker run.

The season 12 episodes are of roughly the same quality, I'd say. There is, however, a big reveal that changes a fundamental part of the show's lore and that was very controversial.

Whether or not the current content is worth keeping up with... well, I do think it is in general. Like GANON said, there are some stinkers in there but most seasons of Doctor Who have some real clunkers. I think there's a loud but small minority that can't stand the idea of the Doctor being female now and they're going to bad mouth it regardless. There's also that big reveal I mentioned which I feel people are rightly bothered by (though I'm not, really), but that reveal is late in season 12 and has little impact on individual episodes.

I had some fun with KSA, and if she has friends to play with it could be a big winner. Local co-op is so undervalued these days, but the game does it pretty well. It's not a world changing game, but it's the kind of game that you can really build fond memories with if you sit down with a friend or three to play it.

I haven't played NPS but want to. I actually don't have a deep love for the original, but I also only played it as a rental. Considering the fact that they also gave the game some free DLC, this game sounds like good value to me if she's more of a single player type of gamer.

Since they're both on her wishlist then that defines my rec - if she has IRL friends to play with KSA is great, if she doesn't NPS is better.

Every one of those games is legitimately very good, the kind of games that people remember as their all-time favorites. Who expressed any such concern in this topic? How is this relevant?

Finished.

The show is not terrible, certainly not as bad as I expected. I think they did Spike and Jet well enough but Faye really isn't Faye and Vicious/Julia are different too as others mentioned. Ed is in it for all of two minutes and Ed is pretty damn Ed-like, and I appreciated it. The change they made to Julia in the final episode is intriguing imo, it certainly means that if there is a season two they will be doing something that is much more their own thing (for better or worse).

I think the action, while not top notch, is serviceable. The truth is a lot of the choreography in the anime just doesn't work with human bodies. Faye's first fight scene in ep 1 really illustrates that. People don't move that way, anime characters do, and a lot of the fights would look more natural if they weren't trying to copy the original in this regard. Of course, even if they did that then people would complain that the choreography (while better) wasn't like the anime enough. Sometimes you just can't win, and this was probably always going to be one of those times.

I do love that Yoko Kanno did not phone it in at all. The music is great, and it's not just a recycling of the original. There were a couple of pieces that I felt didn't fit a live action show as well as they would have an anime, but overall they really succeeded in the sound department.

Biggest possitive: the soundtrack, obviously.

Biggest negative: Faye doesn't act like Faye. She doesn't speak like Faye. The actress talked about how she felt like she was getting a lot of shit because she doesn't look like Faye, but frankly that original look is something that had to stay in the anime. She looks fine. She just doesn't come off as being Faye Valentine. Where is the sadness/distance/loneliness? Where's the young women so hurt by past betrayals that she inherently trusts no one, the woman who ran away at the thought that she was starting to get attached to others? Faye wouldn't let herself care about Spike enough to worry about Jet handing him over to Vicious or to go back and save them both, at least not until she recovered her past.

He might be tired of being the moral center, but he's not tired of being the center of the spotlight. In spite of what the foX-Men movies might have tried to pull off, Magneto is not the center of their narrative (nor is Prof X, though he's closer). If he gets the role, cool, but it doesn't fit in with the choices he's made throughout his entire career.

This was hard. Castlevania seasons 1 and 2 are great. Not just good, great. It loses some of that as it goes on, but even by the end I'd say the project was a real success. Detective Pikachu is good from beginning to end, but it's also largely forgettable. Arcane has been very good so far, but it's so early. Who knows if they can maintain this quality as it goes on.

I voted for Castlevania because, like the game series, most of the world might not know it even exists but it's just plain solid as a whole. I do think Arcane has the ability to totally surpass it, but it's too soon to know for sure.

I haven't seen Sonic, maybe I should, but the rest rank as either entirely forgettable to just bad.

Actually, thinking about it, if they were going to race-switch a character why not Professor X? They'd obviously have to change his backstory, but WW2 was so long ago that doing so is going to be necessary anyway. Age him up just a bit and perhaps he could pass as having been a child during the civil rights movement, still a kid when Johnson signed the CRA(s) but old enough to have seen much of the struggle.

Reed Richards... maybe? I dunno, in my mind the character is a stodgy old white guy. I know they're going to want to go a bit younger, but race-switching Reed feels like a stretch to me (pun unintended, but awesome).

Deathlok I considered but I find it very problematic. His name is probably too similar to Deadshot, for one. Also, while Deathlok has more cybernetics... the red suit, the gun, the thing over the eye... If there are people that can't tell Smith and Elba were playing different characters they're not going to know that Smith is playing two different characters if he got the role. There are even some people don't know why Superman doesn't show up to help Iron Man, Will Smith playing Deathlok would really muddy up the branding.
