Not the best impressions on Eternals coming out... which I guess is expected, at least for me it's been hard to get too excited, but nonetheless interested to see what story Chloe Zhao wanted to tell as well as the overall mythos expansion on Celestials and possibly giving a bit more on Thanos/Eros...... but then so far the actual main characters of the movie has given me little to be excited from trailers yet and it sounds like Eternals ultimately has too much it wants to tell and for some it's failing to do so effectively.

Tricky... Ms. Marvel's powers are being adapted as energy constructions rather than elongating her body.



I get stretching can look goofy live action but I mean, that's how I know Ms. Marvel. Also maybe they also didn't wanna go through with it if they wanna differentiate her from Mr. Fantastic coming in eventually I guess.

I will say this promo doesn't look bad though aside from not being the original ability... It's just a purple Green Lantern. I'll have to see how it's actually used and hopefully it still at least feels like extending her body with these constructs but *shrug*... Kamala Khan's a fav so this was my most exciting show coming but I can't be help be a little bummed here. Her start using her powers with shapeshifting can't really be touched on with constructs

Thor at least gets to hold its head above Dark World, but then Ragnarok comes in as an actual good movie.

Top be fair to Captain America though (personally don't care for First Avenger at all), it is competing with two of the biggest MCU films (with Civil War basically being Avengers 2.5)

Captain America is a prime example of the next phases being better than the first...

Avengers 1 was a big event for its time as the ultimate crossover film, and it's certainly better than Ultron. But Infinity War & Endgame absolutely eclipse it, and your average Phase 3 movie easily holds above it.

Phase One is utterly weak outside of Iron Man 1

Phase Two somewhat improves the average while dropping one of the best with Winter Soldier (although lackluster in its Avengers collab)

Phase Three is chalk full of great unique entries, with some stumbles that aren't really as bad as the other Phase's worst, and then it ends with the biggest Avengers roundup with in two-parter

3 > 2 >1, although I can see swapping 2 & 1 due to Dark World & IM3

4 started with a stumble with Black Widow but Shang-Chi's great and we got the D+ shows which are decent to cool so far.

Piranha Plant - enjoyable oddball, I liked playing him when he released but haven't gone back to him in a while. definitely helps that announced like a surprise bonus character and not like a Fighter Pass 2 character

Joker - eh, haven't played P5 and I don't really like playing him much, he was fine when he came out but next DLCs definitely better
Hero - I think DQ deserves it for sure, I don't personally care for them as a character, but I definitely enjoy their chaotic moveset and he's a great troll pick (also helps I used to be a Link main for 3 games)
Banjo & Kazooie - The addition I love most, B&K in a Nintendo legacy crossover game is just incredibly meaningful to me. He's alright to play with... not really my choice but I'll come back to him. Not as bad as Mega Man, another legacy choice I love who I unfortunately hate playing as.
Terry - Kajetokun's Terry Yum Goong. That's all I gotta say, all that Terry needs for me to enjoy his inclusion. He's the FGC character I enjoy playing as the most as well, especially with +100% special inputs
Byleth - Would've preferred Edelgard ofc. I do like Byleth tho and her playstyle suits me, with the spear zoning and axe power smashes. Still... would've preferred Edelgard, but at least I still get another fem rep from Byleth.

Min Min - ARMS... wasn't really that significant a game. I got it, enjoyed it, never touched the DLC. However, I do actually really like Min Min and I'm glad they picked her. I don't choose her often, but I do enjoy keeping distance with double dragons or dragon + hammer arm.... boomerang can go away. Also love how she can launch a smash while she's already doing one, great for catching people off-guard.
Steve/Alex - During the announcement I felt disappointment sure, not huge since I mean MC is a massive series and deserves representation in a series of video game legacy. When he came out though... yo he's a really enjoyable troll pick and really my go-to for that now. Especially against my sister, minecarting her off the edge is hilarious.
Sephiroth - I hate this. Like Cloud absolutely hard to argue, but if we're getting another FF rep, giving it to 7 again like fuck off. Doesn't help I hate Seph, and yeah I don't care about his playstyle enough to get over the character.
Pyra/Mythra - Xenoblade is my baby so hell yes... although if it was like Rex+Pyra only I'd say fuck off because Mythra top tier Pyra trash. Pyra's a fun powerhouse though, but I still prefer my lightning fast Mythra. Happy to have a switch character with multiple movesets I can change depending on the state of the fight though!
Kazuya - Possibly my least favourite choice, which is saying something given my hatred of Seph. Kazuya's just so boring and I can't be assed to use him, can't even say much more than that. I would not be saying this for Heihachi.
Sora - Another character that's not for me, having not played KH... but one I'm more accepting of, he deserves it especially as a poll winner. Haven't used him much yet so I can't really comment more than this, and admit it's still a bit of a bummer to say goodbye to Smash DLC on such a note personally... but I take out my grievance for this on Kazuya instead of Sora.

Holland could've worked. I don't mind young Drake, but this just feels like Peter Parker trying to be a little more serious? And I don't know if that's Holland having limited range or if that's what the producers actually told him to do, but either way it doesn't feel like it fits at all.

Holland has kinda said this himself about his performance - that he feels he tried to come off as "cool" that it kinda took over

If Cherry is an independent action film shot by directors who have more affinity with someone like Steven Soderbergh, then Uncharted has more in common with a Michael Bay action movie. It required more bulking up from Holland. It also required a little more cool. Not cool cool. Not Soderbergh. But cool, as in Holland had to stand looking cool. It was an experiment in vanity that left an odd taste in his mouth.

As soon as you start worrying about Do I look good in this shot? acting becomes something other than playing a character. I think there are elements of my performance in Uncharted where I kind of fell under that spell of being I want to look good now. I want this to be my cool moment. I had to play this very tough, very stoic guy basically be Mark Wahlberg. My character is supposed to be a fucking action hero in this moment! Look, I havent seen it, so I dont know if I succeeded in that. But it was an important lesson learned, because, at times, it was less about land a mark and go through this scene and more about land a mark, stand like this and see my bulging biceps... It was a mistake and is something that I will probably never do again.

super missile is my least favourite since it's only used for like what, two doors? and you really don't feel much of a difference with them

like I even got SMs early in one Dread run which was fun to pull off, but I don't actually care that I have super missiles early

Really not into the Young Drake thing, and it's also jarring when they have Young Drake trying to emulate Uncharted Drake. I like Holland but and I'm sorry if my brain is typecasting but this looks like a highschooler in too deep movie.

Honestly while Terra is more relevant to FF6's plot, Vaan as a protagonist at least offers a perspective and an acting role which Terra simply does not bother do, so I actually accept the position of him as a player perspective protagonist as understandable.

Although to me the story certainly belongs to Ashe and she's very much committed to her actions and purpose driving the story. It's been a long time and I'm incredibly hazy on my FF12 details though.

Although I could definitely point to Celes's more intentioned drive against Kefka which people very mistakenly believe starts at WoR because of a need to split the game into two pieces, WoB vs WoR, when Celes truly started taking priorities shortly after joining the party, insisting to take charge with Locke following the events of Zozo, and exploring her history with the Empire as the party delves into Vector all while Terra takes a back seat.

It's definitely understated how central a character Celes already is in World of Balance, again taking the spotlight as th Empire sends her with the party into Thamasa, leading again to the Floating Continent that pushes Celes's history and opposition to Kefka in the climax of the game. For all people talk about the ending bringing Terra back if you skipped her, WoB does the same thing with Celes even if you don't take her along there either.

Again I get why people try to split FF6 to WoB-Terra WoR-Celes, but honestly I feel people might give Celes too much WoR credit that's moreso owed to her strong role in WoB - but as people did with Terra in WoB they take the game starting out with x character to mean that character is the lead, which the scenario writers explicitly wanted to avoid. Not to say Celes doesn't continue a strong role in WoR, because yeah she remains a stronger driving force than Terra ever was by actually seeking out the party to challenge Kefka. But I very much view WoR as a truly ensemble scenario that was more in line with what the writers wanted to begin with, where everyone actually just gets their own little stories to tell.

WoR is also definitely not half of the game, which is another issue I have with people viewing the game as two halves. As much as it would pain me to compare the two, there's actually a lot similar with XIII's structuring, where WoR is basically Chapter 11. (XIII also being an ensemble title, one that I'd even say accomplishes the concept more successfully than VI)

but there's still the fact they literally took roles away from Terra because they didn't want her to be too important -- which I think might've succeeded to well in because she really doesn't have much presence in the game beyond some WoB plot devices that she's not even actively participating in

I really can't imagine playing through FF6 and seeing her character as the protagonist - she's dragged along by the Returners, doesn't really want to be involved in any of it, then quits to play with orphans

Why does the story start with Celes in the World of Ruin?
Staff: Theres no central main character in FF6all 12 of them are equally the main character, so starting with Celes then just made sense in the overall flow of the story. We were concerned that if we started it with Terra, it would place too much relative importance on her story. Also, we wanted to give Terra some extra backstory, and show what she had been up to since the world had been destroyed.

As pointed out at the time, ep1 just takes the concept of "What If" and wastes it to change very little. It's Peggy as Captain America, then for the most part just continues on doing First Avenger with the identity swap. The rest of the show actually bothers to tell new stories, ep1 didn't.

Ep2 does "somebody else takes the role of this hero" as well, but it went a completely new direction from GoG1, and the effects of T'challa taking the mantle were shown to be massive for the universe -- literally arguing Thanos out of Infinity War

Finished both my <4h Normal and <4h Hard today

Normal I wasn't actually expecting to do <4h yet, it was my first playthrough really exploring available sequence breaks and which are actually beneficial (ie, I did the Kraid skip... which as I mentioned earlier isn't really helpful, especially if you aren't wasting your time trying to pseudowave to the speed booster)

Playthrough paused for a few days at the spin boost skip as I really wanted to pull off the shinespark version of it since it's really cool... got close but eventually had to give up. Water bomb-jump is just so easy to pull off instead there's no reason to do the crazy shinesparking journey - then I ended up using water bomb jumps a few more times after learning it there. I think the Normal run ended around 3 hours 57, so still made it just in time~

Hard mode [I'll spoiler tag my route details] I killed Kraid, did the grapple skip which I love, snagged bombs before heading to Burenia so I could then go straight to the speed booster EMMI. Then back up to the bombs area to pull off the Super Missile skip which is real fun to pull off even if Super Missiles don't really open anything up like Grapple did. what else... speed boosters take you to Ferenia for the Burenia zone unlock where I then skipped Drogyga - great that one's very much reliable with the pausing trick - then a bit weird heading back to Ghavorian with the early SMs that... don't really matter... sure I guess prevented a little loop but I kinda had to go out of my way to get SMs early in the first place. More direct to Elun I guess but then Spin Boost next though as I mentioned WBJ is super easy so that's a great skip. Unlike transience I still got Space Jump along with my Diffusion Missiles, so I think that leaves a pretty straight-forward playthrough for the rest of the way to Grav Suit -> Z-57 -> Screw Attack -> Cross Bombs -> Wave -> Power Bomb -> Clear

so this 2nd Hard clear was about 3 hours 7 minutes.... oh boy does the OCD side of my brain almost always trump the speedrunning side and I really can't help going off to snag a few nearby items I know of - like Blur says they're just all-over and totally doable earlier than expected if you know what you're doing. Both Normal & Hard reruns I finished with 62%

yeah I can definitely say I love this game after getting familiar with it, I've loved the process of learning my route and checking out even some unhelpful skips and it's really given me a strong grasp of what really is such a large Metroid world to wrap your head around. I love the agility of this Samus even if shoulder button controls still don't really map well in my head... it's taken me way too much thinking to remember R is the Missile button right now but maybe that's a 4am thing

Hell yes I love speed booster killing Z-57, did it in both these Normal & Hard clears, Normal taught me it really does give you a lot of leeway to pull it off, but managed to perfect it in Hard anyways. Also in my Hard playthrough I melee countered a Kraid punch while hanging from the magnet strip, which lead into Kraid's death cutscene and that was pretty awesome.

woo now all contents unlocked... although I do wish Dread had low % run endings like Zero Mission did.
