I seek to induce as many emotional responses through my images as possible, for that to me is true power.
I dig it. The dog one is absolutely a powerful image, it makes me want to curl up in a fountain as well. There's also the foreboding nature of the minion costume.

A powerful image just has to instill a strong emotion in its viewer. Whether it be fear, discomfort, foreboding, longing, satisfaction, comfort - as long as it doesn't break the ToS like a spoiler or something. That dog picture makes me long for a situation where I an sit in a cool body of water like that and feel the same contentment it must be. That's a powerful image.

I'm liking it so far. I really hope we get to see the Silence again.

Dan's a great new companion. I don't know what's going on between Yaz and the Doctor, but I feel bad for Yaz.

Is the Division like an evil Men In Black type organization?
Spoilers for series 12 and pretty wide-spanning implications for the Doctor:

The Division were a secret Time Lord spy cell who would utilise agents to conduct clandestine operations for the will of Gallifrey. The Doctor was one of their operatives, with regenerations before what we know as the First Doctor - as hinted at in the Classic series with the "Morbius" Doctors - and potentially between the second and third Doctors. The Doctor had their mind wiped, and they would face regeneration any number of times between operations. Series 12 brought this to light, as well as tying the Doctor more strongly into Time Lord history, meaning there's entire regenerations missing from the Doctor's memory courtesy of the Division. She's hunting the Division down to understand the scope of what they did to her.

This is definitely the best season so far, as someone who's been making excuses for it the entire time. Next to Demons of the Punjab, I think the Sontaran and Weeping Angel episodes are some of this run's best episodes.

I do have gripes, though. The Flux storyline is getting weaker and weaker every episode. I like Jacob Anderson well enough after a rough start in episode one, and I thought his backstory was done pretty well in Once, Upon Time, but since his and Bel's quest to find each other has basically taken over the Flux plot of the miniseries it feels more and more tacked on. It all depends how this all pays off, but without the payoff, all I can say is that the Flux plotline is currently the weakest part of the season.

Though I do think Swarm is a cool character aesthetically, he's like Rocky Horror-era Tim Curry. Azure I can take or leave. I kinda called the Passenger twist with Dan's lady, but with it being an infinitely sized prison I can dig where they're going with the stakes of it. And as someone who doesn't mind the Timeless Child stuff, I'm kind of liking the Division stuff - ESPECIALLY in Village of the Angels. Going heavy on the Division, and giving the Angels both numbers and purpose, made this episode a great watch - and I'm not really a Weeping Angels fan.

I think Blink was okay, but they're too late-00's jumpscare for my taste and I think Moffat kept adding more and more pointless wank that made the later Weeping Angel episodes pretty meh. It reminds me of when he made human Daleks, human characters who would grow Dalek eyestalks out of their foreheads because "yOu NeVeR kNoW wHo'S a DaLeK!!!1!1!11!", or later on when he made an episode about the fucking monster under your bed. I hate that shit.

And yet, this Weeping Angel episode is one of my favorite episodes of Chibnall's entire run. It did justice to all of Moffat's wanky character traits without making it quite as unbearable, it made them threatening by giving them purpose and by adding more and more angels and exploiting the wanky later additions to add even more angels to the mix. It kept escalating the conflict and kept it engaging.

And on top of that, it's one of the first episodes to really pay off the Timeless Child stuff - another one being Once, Upon Time. This is why I think it works, even if people thinks it makes the Doctor too important and removes what makes them special. Mindwipe stuff is hit or miss, but by giving her such a storied history to draw from going forward, there's a metric truckload of new directions they could take this. In this most recent episode, we saw the sort of stakes this unknown past can result in.

With that being said, I still have some issues with the show. Namely, that the first and third episodes feel more like build-up, and how good they are in hindsight is going to rely on what they were building towards. The first episode was kind of a mess because it had to introduce everything and set the stakes, and the third episode similarly fleshed out a lot of what episode one was establishing to a slightly more coherent degree.

Another issue I have is with the character writing, and this is partially because I'm a Thasmin shipper.

For the most part, I think it's great that the characters are splitting up more. Episode 2 was so good because it actually did separate character plots for once - in series 11 and 12, the characters would rarely get a chance to split up and have their own moments, they'd just move around in a group and two of the characters would have a moment now and again. Some episodes involved the supporting cast getting a chance to shine without the Doctor, but for the most part they were a monolith, acting as a cohesive whole to the narrative detriment to at least one character per episode.

With that being said, though, I'd still like the characters to regroup and interact? Like what I like about RTD-era Doctor Who is that the characters split up, then they reform, then they solve the mystery and you get some nice character stuff.

So far in Flux, the Doctor has been treating Yaz kinda shittily? And Yaz has essentially been filling the Doctor mentor role for Dan. There's much more of a physical and emotional divide than I'd like to see, and I get that each episode is a cliffhanger so of course shit is gonna keep going off the rails, but it's like when the characters do meet up there's all this secrecy and urgency and tension - there's no downtime. It's like circumstances keep forcing the Doctor and Yaz apart, and that's fine because the stakes here are so impossibly high, but when they do see each other the Doctor does something shitty to avoid Yaz's concern.

And some of that is because I ship them, but it's also just not to my viewing taste as far as Doctor Who goes. I hate when the Doctor looks down on people or treats them like shit, Ten did it pretty well but it also got super old. Twelve was interesting in how negative he was at the start, but ultimately I really disliked series 8 because he was such a persistent prick about everything. To see Thirteen become this guarded person who keeps lashing out is kind of unpleasant, and I'd appreciate some sort of catharsis - if not now, then soon. And while I'd like for Yaz to stay on the TARDIS for longer, if things stay this way for much longer, I wouldn't mind her leaving for a better situation. Because all I seem to see is her tackling boatloads of trauma, being brave about it because she's internalised all of this cool action stuff from her time with the Doctor, only for the real deal to talk down to her and treat her poorly for trying to reach out to someone she cares about.

So long story short - I've made excuses for the earlier seasons at times, though I would say that I've enjoyed them relatively well with some shortcomings. But so far, I think Flux is Chibnall's best season. Episode one was wonky, episode two was one of my favorite episodes in years, episode three was pretty good but it'll all come down to whether the storyline of the season pans out, and episode four is the best Weeping Angel episode since Blink.

I think I'll have to check out the movies. I already really wanted to, but I've gotten a lot of positive feedback on them so I think I should go out of my way to watch them first.

It helps that I'm currently playing The Answer as well, so I'm not exactly done with P3 yet.

The thing about P5 is that I think it's a very stark shift from a darker game like P3, being a lot more bombastic and colourful and just generally broadly appealing in its presentation, and gameplay-wise it skews closer to Shin Megami Tensei with the demon recruiting and stuff. I feel like some people probably see it as a "normie" Persona or something.

But also I think the people going "oh yeah p5 was stupid dogshit 3 and 4 are better" could be reacting to p5's massive popularity, taking solace in p3's relative obscurity - a sensation unto itself, it was still a pretty niche game - and p4's cult status. That, or they're intentionally trolling.

Either way, why bother pursuing that line of questioning? It's probably better to just enjoy what you like. Putting down other games in defense of this one isn't very productive.

Good/bad news: I'm playing The Answer.

I've heard that this mode is very divisive, but I kinda dig that this is an Aigis adventure.

It feels a lot like that Final Fantasy X audio drama though. Like this is gonna be some wacky fanfiction tier shit. They nearly committed child murder in the first ten minutes of the game. And I've noticed that the color palette of this mode is red, in contrast to the regular blue - and I've also picked up on a reference to reforming society, which is a happy series of coincidences.

Also I want to ask, was the main character dying at the end a retcon they made for The Answer? Kinda like the Final Fantasy X audio drama where Sin comes back? Because I can see how that could be framed in the text, but it also comes across as a weirdly melodramatic scene of the main character taking a nap.

Also, are the movies good?

Yeah I loved the final fight. It's one of my all time best. I respect your take though.

My only huge complaint is that I wish the dungeons had been crafted as opposed to generated.
I like randomly generated dungeons, honestly I want to play a good loot game like Diablo 2 next. But it did get tiresome in Persona 3.

And the last boss fight does feel like this epic crescendo, I just feel like the thing was as hard as it is for the sake of donkey-punching the main character. Like I said, the design is awesome - I dig it. And I definitely don't begrudge anyone who likes it.

I think going with crafted dungeons on top of randomly generated side-dungeons was a good move for the series to make. You get awesome gameplay spectacules on top of a system that makes the game engaging to just dig into and play.

I did take your advice, I had the thing Abaddon drops and it worked.

I was at level 76, which is why that part was probably so hard. It seemed like an appropriate endgame level and I didn't want to go back and grind any more.

Persona 3 started a lot of good things that made the future games so good, but Persona 5 really stands in a league of its own imo. No hate though.

About "best girl":

I didn't approach this from an angle of like "yo main character fuck this teenage girl because I'm into them". I'm 26, that shit is weird. Persona 3 also explicitly has your character fucking multiple girls, so when you have a lady social link, there's always a romantic component to it - so the topic of "best girl" is pretty weird.

I also found that the girl social links blended into each other, they all start blushing and stammering and talk about how awesome you are. It really does feel like they're just there to talk you up as this great person, to the point that they don't feel like their actual story selves. Fuuka got this really bad, but I think she suffered a bit as far as personality goes so ehh.

I will rank the main girl cast members by how much I like them, though. As far as "best girl" ratings go, I'd put them:

Aigis > Mitsuru > Yukari = Fuuka

Aigis: I always really loved Aigis as a character. Even though she hijacks the main plot by the end, I really love the human robot storyline in general. Like it wasn't because of Aigis, I just like this plot about robots gaining sentience and becoming alive. There's this Twine game called Do Androids Dream The Body Electric where you discuss a robot woman's failing marriage, and it's not very long, but it's riveting. It dangles just enough world building to tie the plot together, and it's just incredibly offbeat and funny and kind of emotional. The main character has a rollcage like a car, and she has an estranged daughter, and I live for that shit. I don't know why, but I think robots becoming people is an incredible plot. I love that shit.

So Aigis is a character who endears herself to me from the word go. She's got "beep boop robot funny" moments, which I fucking die laughing about, but she also has moments where she can't properly grasp the difference between being alive and not being alive, and it's gripping. Aigis is my favorite character, with Akinari being a close second.

Mitsuru: I did Mitsuru's social link this time, and I really liked it. A part of it was because of like the rich-girl out of touch moments, similar to the "beep boop I'm a robot" moments Aigis has. But I also love how she ripped into her arranged fiance for being a fuckface. I also love how her room is designed, and shit like when she thought Junpei had rigged an explosion to get into their high school at night was just really fun. Mitsuru is great.

Yukari: I like how she plays off of Junpei, and I think her story beats are pretty good. But I didn't do her social link because I was getting my fill of her character over the course of the regular game, and I didn't feel a need to experience an entire separate Yukari story. I had shit to do, I maxed out all but three social links and she just didn't fit into my schedule. I don't hate her, I just thought what she got in the main story was enough.

Fuuka: I actually like Fuuka. I thought her social link was kinda mediocre, and her character suffered, but she's the character who reminds me the most of myself and I'm a narcissistic douchebag. idk, I find it hard to hate Fuuka. I get why people complain about her VA, but frankly I'm cool with it because like. That's Fuuka. That's who she is.

I only rank her so low because she's not very developed as a character. I like her tech storyline in her social link, but most of that storyline is her stumbling over the MC with a lot of blushing and ellipses. I was hoping for something more concrete, because if anyone needed more character development, it was Fuuka. If she had more focus, I'd probably like her more than Yukari.

I didn't do Chihiro's social link because I ran out of time, but I'm planning to watch it on YouTube before I start Persona 4 because she apparently appears in that game too. So if we're talking about "best girl", the order in which I appreciate the characters is Aigis > Mitsuru > Yukari = Fuuka, with the understanding that I actually like them all and that the only loser in this equation is a loser because I think the game neglected her.

Last spoiler warning, because I'm going heavily into detail from the next paragraph on.

I'm going to start with a negative: the final boss.

The Nyx avatar looks amazing, the fucked up Ryoji face is fucking amazing. But what a horseshit boss fight.

Let's lay it all out:

* 13 phases, 12 of them with 2,000 health.

* A 13th phase with 6,000 health - tripling the health bar - and buffed defense that blocks 50% of your attack damage - making the extremely long fight go for significantly longer.

* A late-stage reflection move where you can't inflict any damage for several turns, prolonging a massive boss fight for even longer than before

* A desperation attack that hits for over 50% of your entire party's health and inflicts random status effects on them - including Charm, which can make a character use a full-heal move on the final boss, booting you back to the start of the thirteenth battle phase. Which is exactly what fucking happened to me.

So the last boss is miserable. And honestly, the dungeon crawling gets a bit stale by the end, and the game's pacing falls apart during the last two months of the game.

So what did I like about the game?

Pretty much everything else.

Persona 3 is a great life sim that tackles a really interesting concept in a very polished way. You can make friends, who all have their own social values and schedules, you can go to the arcade, you can sing karaoke and you can explore a bunch of relatively contemporary city areas. It's a JRPG set in the modern era, which to this day is kinda niche, and it's incredibly entertaining.

The substories aren't all great, but the ones that matter really fucking matter. Like there's a guy named Akinari who's terminally ill, and he spends his last days speaking to you and writing an aesop about his own life. I used to hate sad stuff for the sake of being sad, and Persona 3 really milks it with the sad music track and everything, but the Akinari social link really affected me. He dies in the game - he gives you his notepad, and you meet his mother at the usual spot at the end of the game. The Akinari social link was my favorite part of the game.

And then there's the Moon social link, where a fat kid yells "tummy emergency!" before running to the bathroom multiple times and tries to scam you out of 143,000 yen to join a cult.

I thought that the production value of the game was excellent, being a late-stage PS2 game it has a lot of polish. This and Persona 4 are very much in the spirit of Persona 5, fucking milking a dead console for all it's worth. I will say that I didn't like the anime cutscenes though, they all felt really off model. They did a way better job with Persona 5.

I was also not big on the ending. It doesn't feel like the main character dies - Aigis cries a bunch and monologues about having a life now, and the last shot of the game is a freeze-frame of her face because Aigis is the main character of this game. I would have preferred something more concrete, though the game's cutscenes are typically very abstract and fleeting.

I also thought that last cutscene where Mitsuru jumps off the stage was incredibly narmy. The game really fell apart at the end for me.

But the thing is, I pumped 70 hours into Persona 3, and I don't at all regret it. I'm complaining, but I genuinely had a great time playing it. It was one of those games where I couldn't wait to start playing it again - some games feel like an obligation, and others feel like a reward. Persona 3 was punishing, but it was rewarding too.

Like I said, Persona 3 has rough edges. I haven't played Persona 4 (that's next), but I have played Persona 5, and 3 and 5 are like night and day (moonlight and starlight, you could say). But the thing is, without Persona 3 being as good as it is and taking on a life of its own in sales and external media - movies, spinoffs, audio dramas - Persona 5 probably wouldn't exist. Or at the very least, it wouldn't be as good as it is.

Persona 3 was a stepping stone, a transition into what Persona 5 would become, and even with its flaws, I think it deserves credit for that. It's got rough edges, but it captured a spark of something that made it special and it gave birth to much bigger, much grander, much more cohesive experiences. It stumbles in places, but Persona 3 is a great game with some caveats.

There's some bullshit in this game, sure. That fuckin final boss moment where Yukari healed the Nyx Avatar back to full health destroyed me. But I still find myself calling it an excellent game, warts and all. I think it's worth playing if you're a Persona fan, or a JRPG fan in general.

oh yeah, fr. Like we live in a more accepting world, but a part of that is that some people feel more entitled to your private information. My old best friend used to drop hints that he knew I wasn't straight, not out of malice or to put me down but from a well-meaning place, and it annoyed the fuck out of me. I don't want anyone to treat me like that.

Similarly, my sister once told me "I know you're gay", and it came from a similar place - she's a lesbian, and while we've had a contentious relationship, but I don't think she meant anything by that. But it's the fucking audacity of saying "I know your sexual orientation", like fuck off with that horseshit. You don't know shit about me until I tell you shit about me, and until that happens - which it probably won't - you don't get to say that about me. Keep that shit to yourself.

This isn't like straight boy rage either, I'm bi. I emphatically take part in same sex coitus, and I say that openly and without shame. I'm definitely not straight, and I've always had a weird relationship with masculinity where I don't understand what it wants from me, so I might not be particularly cis either.

I just want to keep that private. When I come across someone I trust, I'll confide in them - I nearly did that earlier this year, before my old best friend stabbed me in the back and proved that I was right not to be too vulnerable with him. It fucks me off when people are like "oh haha if you came out as non-straight that would be cool haha", like no - that's not happening, and fuck you for trying to make it happen. I'm not comfortable around you, not enough to share that information. Don't fuckin force it out of me.

I dread the thought of being involved in like a pronoun sharing thing. I understand and respect people who want to share their pronouns - I have no qualms with the practice, like "my name is Frank, my pronouns are he/they", totally fine. I'm gonna respect and abide by Frank's pronouns. I just don't want to share my own, and I'm worried that my refusal to offer the same information could be seen as closemindedness or a lack of support/overall distaste for the queer community. I'm a private person, it's not a question I want to answer and frankly having to put it into words stresses me the fuck out.

man, we just call it "tomato sauce" over here.

Not a fan of sweet sauces, I have a weird sweet vs savory mindset where I don't like anything that borders on sweet for dinner. Sweet potatoes, roast carrots - can't bare it. Though I've been going through a mad meatlovers pizza phase lately, and that shit is fucking lacquered with barbecue sauce.

Sweet Baby Ray's has a really fucking good buffalo wing sauce though. I used the last of it recently on a chicken salad. It's very runny, so you have to be careful that it doesn't spill everywhere and ruin your food, but fuck it's good.

I got a double sausage and egg mcmuffin, that shit sucked. I was into them for years, but since becoming an alcoholic consuming adult I've had too many and I don't dig them.

I did like the breakfast burger I had, but you have food that hits the spot and you have food that makes you feel sick. This food made me feel sick. I should have just eaten my weight in nuggets tbh

My phone's at 7% and I'm at the bar. I drank that gin last night and passed out on a friend's lounge, then got some McDonald's and went to the bar.

I'm spending money I shouldn't be spending, but I've had a shit of a week and the next six months are looking pretty dire schedule-wise. So I'm sinking beers

I never had credibility in the first place. I'm a private citizen posting an opinion, not a fucking news source or any other fountain of objectivity.

I don't care if you agree with me, because I'm not saying this to win points with anyone or make an objective statement about anything. I just hate this little shit, and in the absence of any actual punishment for murder, I hope he lives an uncomfortable life. Doesn't matter if that's the "right" thing to say or not. He didn't own the gun, someone gave it to him. He crossed state lines with that gun to attend a counter-protest. He shot and killed two people while basically at that protest to intimidate protesters.

I did and believed some stupid shit when I was a kid, but I never shot somebody at a political protest. Given that Rittenhouse was bailed out by the fucking proud boys and flashed white power shit when he was taking pictures with them, I doubt he's gonna disavow them when this is all over and done with.

So yeah, fuck Kyle Rittenhouse. I hope he lives in fear, because when you kill two people and walk free, you put a target on your back. If you're not going to jail for murder, you should at least look over your shoulder whenever you leave the house - because even with the stress of that looming over you every second of the day, it's still better than being dead.

Meanwhile Australia has 80% vaccination. But of course, that's because the government drives us to the vaccination lines at gunpoint, and refusing a vaccination gets you thrown in a gulag. But y'know, little victories.

They didn't manipulate the game to play for longer than five minutes. They beat the timed demo before the 5 minutes elapsed.

https://youtu.be/jusgAEW4soo

tl;dr: they manipulated cutscene values to trigger the end credits, and then a couple days later someone managed to ROMwarp to the Ganon fight and land the final hit before the demo booted them out.

I fought it three times, and I keep losing. Again - this boss fight has 13 stages, and the last stage has buffed defense and a damage-shielding move that extends the fight artificially. It's just a game, but it's an endurance test and it's taking a lot out of me.

I'm gonna recall some old Personas, equip some new equipment and give it one more go. But after that, I'm done for the time being.

When a character gets charmed, they switch sides - they attack the party and support the enemies.

The final boss of Persona 3 is a total damage sponge. It has 6000 HP, and all damage against it is halved. It also has a move that deflects all damage, which makes the fight even longer. So I've been chipping away at this bastard for about an hour.

I'm down to the last eighth of its healthbar. And out of nowhere, it drops a party-spanning attack with the chance of charming each of the characters.

Yukari, my main healer, gets charmed.

She uses Mediarahan on the final boss.

The final boss recovers all of its health.

The worst part is this Moonlight Gown move which deflects all damage. It doubles the amount of time this fight would take otherwise, and it's gone back to using it because it went back to the phases I already played through.

It's pretty painful to continue. But there are 12 stages of this fight I already beat which took up enough time on its own, so I'm in it for the long haul. But fuck, this sucks.
