Personal experience, its about right. I have a 65 inch 4K in a small living room. I'm usually sitting between 6 and 8 feet away. Parents have a 55 inch 4K about the same distance away. You can definitely see the 4K details more with my setup.

This is why I wish everyone would agree 8K is a waste to pursue. Especially for gaming. You have to generate twice the pixels for negligible effect. Even 4K can be a waste if you have a screen too small for your viewing distance.

no, i described the logistic argument for relative morality of meat consumption. you know where your chicken comes from. if you get dog meat, you almost certainly don't, even in countries where there is a non-zero chance it was produced in a manner ethically equivalently to meat production here.
My meat comes from the freezer or butcher. I have no idea where it comes from. Unless you work in the industry, I doubt you do either. If I see dog on a menu, I am going to assume it wasn't someone's stolen pet just like I do every other kind of meat on the menu. Dogs could be raised for meat just as easily as other animals. Not sure why you are suggesting otherwise.

i get the message you have here: the arguments against eating the animals we hold sacred can be applied to those we don't

my response is quite simply: not as effectively.
It is just as effective. You said its wrong to steal pets to eat meat, which was a point literally no one made. This isn't even exclusive to dogs. You invented a position to support your claim.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

We agree on most points. The only point I am pushing back on is the "we have always done it this way" regarding pigs specifically. The argument itself could be applied in a myriad of ways though, and I agree there are bigger problems that need more nuanced answers than how we treat pigs specifically.

morally, there is: when you eat dog meat, there's a much higher chance that it was a stolen pet than when you eat pig meat. the industrial meat farming process is cruel, but we largely tolerate it. i think most folks understand that stealing someone's pet and eating it is fucking wrong, though.
*eyeroll*

Sorry I forgot to put the disclaimer "all things being equal". There are plenty of places worldwide in which dog meat is raised just as ethically as pig meat in the US. Pretty sure people knew what I was talking about and I'm not advocating for stealing pets.

It's not so much that the studies are up in the air it's also dependent on individuals. Some people can't take vitamins or the same amount of vitamins as someone else. Some people's stomach or body, for whatever reason, rejects vitamin supplements. So not everyone can 100% remove meat from their diet while getting the right amount of vitamins or nutrients. This is why every article that talks about removing meat from your diet, in their vitamin/nutrient supplement section, tell you to speak with your doctor.
This is a moot point. No one claimed everyone should completely remove meat from their diet. There are dietary restrictions of every kind for medical purposes. Some people can't eat meat for health reasons. Every article suggesting significant changes to your diet always put in the disclaimer you need to consult a health official.

Not answered. You can 100% of the nutrients you require from vegan/vegetarian sources. You cited long-term studies saying it had detrimental health effects then backed it off to long-term studies being up in the air.

Eating dogs isn't going to suddenly improve our lives so it isn't one of those examples.
No one is advocating we add dogs to the menu. People are saying since we shouldn't be eating other sentient creatures. Morally there is no difference between eating a dog or a pig. "Because it has always been this way" is why we have done so in the past, but it isn't a moral justification to continue to do so.

There's also the fact that without meat in your diet you must jump through hoops in order to hit our right value when it comes to having the proper vitamins/nutrients. Even then there's studies showing that may not be enough in the long run. We are omnivores that are designed to function with a wide dietary range. Meat is a necessary evil for our development.
I won't speak to the long-term studies, but on a daily basis this is largely an overblown issue. It is relatively easy to get all the nutrients you need even from vegetarian/vegan diets.

History matters in all context and by ignoring history we are doomed to repeat it. There are many things we do or don't do because of the ramifications they have had on history or how it's happened via historical circumstance. The history of things is probably the most important basis for societal changes as well as rules.
And it isn't always a good thing. There are plenty of negative examples of society not changing for the better because "we have always done it this way".

It's also one of those games that you don't play for the plot but nevertheless you start to get invested in the plot and it sucks you in.

The entire thing is mastercrafted. Also it's almost like it was designed for the switch.

The movie stated that the celestials existed before the big bang, and are the same ones we saw. For beings so old, Thanos delaying it by a few thousand years was probably about equal to adding a couple of seconds to a bomb's timer.

Also, like mentioned above, the aftermath of war created prosperity. That was basically Thanos' entire motive. The celestials we're probably totally fine with delaying it a few seconds to speed it up in the long run. Like a movie where they cut the wrong wire, and timer stops, then restarts even faster.
Again, on Earth, this isn't what happened. First snap delayed it, second snap bringing back half the population sped it up. Unless they knew the second snap was coming, they probably should have done something about it. I guess this also assumes they knew the first snap was coming. It may have caught them by surprise. Eternals seemed pretty focused on their one planet. May not have been keeping an eye on galactic level threats.

Your point on their timeline is valid though. When they are operating on timelines of millions of years, probably don't care if some emergences get delayed by a few thousand years (if it even would have been that long).

I'm a business reporter in an area with a huge agricultural industry, and I can tell you that farmers absolutely do work year round. It's not really sustainable for most farmers to only participate in a single grow season, so nearly all of them are participating in summer and spring grow seasons.

The last harvest month around here is usually September for cotton depending on the rains we get in a given year, but from then until March-ish I believe they're still working incredibly hard even without having seed in the ground. The land requires a ton of work to ensure the soil stays healthy, and farmers are constantly keeping up with new science and education to ensure that future crops are healthier and more bountiful.

Not to mention that many farmers are also ranchers, even if on a small scale, and livestock require a massive amount of attention and care.
My grandpa farmed and he didnt work on the farm year-round. He retired from farming in 2010. He did do some other things in his off-season, but the farm was the bread winner. Farmers definitely have the option to work year-round if they want. Ill defer to your expertise. My point is that there are still seasonal jobs that can support people if they are willing to sacrifice their earning potential.

This comic is dumb af. Labor is not the only thing that goes into making a product. Not saying labor is fairly compensated, it isnt a vast majority of the time, but this comic is disingenuous.

If you value your free time more than your earning potential, you are free to choose careers that earn less and work less. Off the top of my head teachers, farmers, and lumberjacks can all make a self-sustainable wage while not working year-round. Youll need to also live in a more rural area where your dollar goes further, but it is doable.

That being said, I agree with the premise that the average worker is overworked and underpaid. I also dont like the cultures that glorify working extra all the time. I value my work-life balance. I dont think the Middle Ages can really tell us anything though. A straight comparison or work hours or leisure time is far from equal.

I think this gets overrated some. I played 200+ hours on the PS3 version and never ran into anything gamebreaking.
