So has everyone given up on the idea of making porn more difficult for children to access? Like it's somehow not possible (even though it's easier than ever) to incorporate modern parental locks on their devices? Just giving up and making more porn specifically for them sounds like a stupid idea.

Although I remember in the UK few years ago they had a plan for an ISP-side block on adult material you'd have to opt in to on your account, to make this easier, but everyone cried their rights were being infringed as if it wasn't just a slightly better age verification, and it was never done.

I saw it on a couple of articles - just tracked down the source (page 53) - https://infrastructure.gov.au/roads/safety/publications/1997/pdf/Speed_Risk_1.pdf

It's actually in 5km/h (3mph) increments. The relative risk compared to sober at the speed limit is interesting/worrying. Doubles at 5km/h above and by 20km/h (12mph) above, the risk is 30 times higher.

Drink driving definitely should be judged and shamed. Speeding too actually - that's weirdly more acceptable, even though it kills more people. Each 5mph above the limit has an equivalent risk to an additional 0.05% blood alcohol concentration while driving at the limit.

It's probably not totally ideal for them, but neither is it a major problem. It seems the stigma about it is still living in the 90s, as if anyone can buy houses for like 2x annual salary these days, and rents are getting ridiculous too. Some places you basically have to buy with a partner, but no guarantee they'd have met the right one by any age.

There's probably plenty people who get on well with their families, would rather stay with them than with some random strangers too.

What long term effects could there be? The vaccine just grows some spike proteins in your muscle cells, that are cleared out in a few weeks. Any allergic reactions would happen in this time, but nothing remains in the body beyond that. For long term effects you'd need some severe damage to occur in a major organ (like what Covid causes), or otherwise some long term repeated exposure to something harmful.

Woodger

100g protein is only like 400 calories, but it also helps there's a greater thermic effect with protein, that it takes more energy to metabolize and rebuild than fat or carbohydrates, so protein calories effectively count less than other calories. Protein rich foods also tend to be more satiating, so you're less likely to overindulge in them too.

It's kinda annoying cause that's an actual good solution, but you're right, nobody would go for that. They don't seem keen to go for harsher (non-violent) punishments either, or trying to further restrict porn access for children. With all the good solutions taken away, suggesting preventive measures is all they really have left.

That's probably a smaller proportion of people than would have been strippers or prostitutes at any other time in history. It's definitely not a common thing, it just gets talked about a lot.

All the murder wasn't exactly right, but if it's between your adopted daughter and a bunch of people trying to kill your adopted daughter, and you have the ability to choose...

More so in 2021 actually, cause we can better imagine it now - like 1 year ago some doctors do a Covid test on you and find you've got weird blood and want you to undergo a procedure that would kill you but would also create a vaccine, you would've been like 'no, figure it out another way'. If it was your child, you'd be like 'hell no, figure it out another way'. I don't really buy the point that that's what Ellie would have wanted either - both that it's an unrealistic attitude for a child to have, and also that she is a child, a minor, who wouldn't be able to make that decision now without parental consent.

Also not sure Joel was wrong to lie about it afterward either, cause how and why would you put the weight of something like that on a kid? One who's already seeming a little depressed with a touch of survivor's guilt already.

And also the medical stuff someone's probably already mentioned, that you can't vaccinate against a fungus, no point in killing the host keeping the mutated cordyceps alive, why not just start with a biopsy etc. Fireflies dumb.

Maybe it's because there are next to no young people on here, or maybe because more people are vocally against the grey areas that people seem to argue about. Either way, you're right that it shouldn't be welcomed.

The idea that sex is bad and must remain taboo does more harm than good and theres no rational justification for it. I wouldnt deliberately expose my 4 year old to it, but it should hardly be some big trauma that shapes their life.
Sure sex itself is good, but there are many ways it can be twisted into something bad - that's why there are so many boundaries around it.

Developing brains can't fully understand all the complexities around this (and some adult brains too judging by this topic), but they do learn from them, so it's best to avoid all developmental trauma and keep children away from anything to do with porn.
