The real answer is that since it's a name it's pronounced with as many syllables as whoever chose the name wants it to be pronounced with.

It's a latin name and the "correct" pronunciation has three, but that doesn't mean whoever chose the name has to go with the "correct" pronunciation.

A vast majority of states that are still at $7.25 are red states. The "compromise" with Romney would basically be "compromising" to do what most blue states are already doing, or are close to as it is. Thus, it'd be of no actual benefit to Democrats, so it'd be silly for them to go down that far. A compromise usually means it's mutually beneficial to both parties, not just "Well it doesn't help you any but it makes my side look good for doing something we've dragged our feet on until now to begin with."

Yeah, that's what I saw, but that's reporting on the first one, not the second. All of the reporting I'm finding on the second says "next year" or "end of year," so I have no idea which one it actually is.

Sounds like it might be what I thought initially, that it's retroactive and applies for anybody up through when it ends in September, but I'm hoping to find actual clarification.

EDIT: I'm now finding reports that are literally saying both, so I'm just gonna assume it's last year and half of these news sources have no idea what they're talking about.

I'm confused how they don't notice how terrible the optics are on this.

They're applying a tax break to the UI assistance that passed under Trump. Meanwhile, they're effectively giving people less assistance under their own power.

Less direct money than Trump, less UI than Trump.

$300 for an extra month minus taxes is actually more money than the $400. Obviously it's not as good as $400 no taxes, but I have to accept that was never the initial plan and so I can't fairly be mad it's not a thing.

So I'll accept this as long as Manchin doesn't fuck it up. I'm still not happy with all of the backing down, but the math suggests this doesn't actually screw me so whatever.

Actually you got really upset that we had Fauci quotes from the day prior saying he felt we'd ramp up significantly by April and insisted there was no reason to believe we'd have significant ramp up.

Also I never tied it to supply. My tie to supply was always that since we had the supply, we could always fix the rollout to ramp up significantly.

Yes because at the time there literally wasn't reason to believe it, and the Fauci quotes were literally even "if," not "yes we will," which you argued over despite having the quotes in front of you.

My point was the current pace was terrible and we hadn't seen anything to suggest it'd change, not that it couldn't. Your argument was "well they say we might so TRUST" and then we never got the 20m by December or the 50m by end of January and you still kept going "TRUST" and I kept going "Based on what?"

And for the record, we still don't know what the true pacing will be. The Biden administration clarified that him saying we'll have vaccines for "every adult" by end of May does not mean we'll have "every adult" vaccinated by end of May and that will probably take much longer.

But I'm not going to argue over this again because all you do is shift goal posts every time instead of just taking the L that your original statement of "We're well on pace, the pacing is fine" was dumb.

No, your entire argument was that the pace we were on at the time was fine and there was literally nothing wrong but supply, which was never the issue. The issue was distribution, since states had been given literally no help. You argued that once supply ramped up, we'd be fine, which just simply wasn't true, since they kept missing milestone after milestone despite having the supply.

The argument against you wasn't that mid-summer wasn't reasonable, it was that it wasn't reasonable at that time and at that pace unless major changes occurred. They did, so we're doing better, but your insistence that there was nothing wrong with the previous pace was straight up incorrect.

Yes but when it's one side ignoring those rules in order to undo the damage the other side did by ignoring the rules, then that argument becomes dishonest. Your argument relies on a heavy amount of "both sides"ing.

And it's not like one side not doing it makes the other side stop. It just means that side gets away with their shit.

Your argument is basically: "Let the terrorists be terrorists! Meanwhile, what the FUCK are you doing trying to help people? We have rules to stop that!"

Based on quick Google searching, the HG/SS hate started in early 2017. I'd say it actually may have predominantly been a GameFAQs thing, but there are random articles like:

https://uzerfriendly.com/hate-pokemon-heartgold-soulsilver-broken-glasses/

and Youtube videos, so Iunno. Probably a vocal minority thing, but there were topics on GameFAQs about "Why do people hate HG/SS?" at that time so I didn't make it up in my head about seeing it.

Maybe the HGSS hate didn't last long, but I definitely saw a bunch of sudden "HGSS sucks" responses to people praising it that didn't previously happen. Complaints tended to range from "lazy" to "bad design/terrible level scaling/etc." and then just "G/S always sucked" comments in general.

That said, I think it kinda coincides with whatever the latest "hate" target represents.

People hated on Gen 5 for awhile with some of the more vocal complaints being things like not enough older Pokemon and newer Pokemon designs being either "trash" or "copies of existing Pokemon."

When Let's Go came out, people started hating on HGSS and the remakes in general, which probably had to do with Let's Go itself being a remake when they wanted a new gen.

Now with Sword and Shield being the latest target, there's also a rise in hate of XY, which if following the logic, may be because XY was the move to 3D, which people now point to as a problem with the series.

I'm not saying it's bad, I love it, too.

I'm just saying to TRE's point, you can do some simple Google searches and find "Why is Gen 5 so hated?" stuff from as late as like two years ago. Maybe it was a vocal minority, but it definitely had a stigma around it for a long while that kinda suddenly vanished recently.

It seems a little silly to blame Biden for not reading the minds of Manchin/Sinema to know they weren't going to budge. By that logic, he shouldn't try literally anything they may be against, which is great if you don't even want attempts at change, I guess.

You can't blame Democrats for never trying anything, and then turn around and go "Can't believe they even tried, how dumb of them!" when they actually do.
