No, there are clearly people vying for the throne. Gaetz, Hawley, etc. Fortunately, most of them are just as inept in their own ways. But there will be someone who actually is smart, well spoken, and better at playing the long game.
Thats the exact problem: Trump is a lazy, incompetent moron incapable of seeing beyond his own needs, and yet, he came perilously close to getting tons of Congressional Representatives murdered.
This would seem to suggest our democracy is actually incredibly frail and you dont need to actually be smart to snap it like a twig: you just need to be somewhat smarter than Donald Trump.

He was in many ways somewhat conservative and was 100% an imperialist. But he also believed in an activist stance against the monopolistic trusts which dominated the economy at the time, which very much was to the left of mainstream politics(then and now). He was also dedicated to conservation and loved nature(and killing nature's creatures, lol).
IIRC, Taft saw trust-busting as an antidote to communism, but I can't remember if TR felt the same.

In any case, FDR and Kennedy/LBJ were basically the only presidents who not only advanced but achieved creation/expansions of social welfare systems though FDR's excluded blacks to win over Dixiecrats and LBJ's Great Society was rooted in part in the pathologization of urban blacks and paired with massive investments in law enforcement.

Going way back, I know John Quincy Adams had a lot of ambitions in terms of building infrastructure and promoting scientific study which were very ahead of their time, but the whole "Corrupt Bargain" business made him a weak and unpopular president.

Nurses got paid really good money for absolutely no reason and the main workforce (grocery/retail workers and shipping/receiving) got told to either fuck off, were cussed at, or got a $1/hr "pandemic bonus".

Seriously. It makes absolutely no sense that nurses were being offered $100/hr to work in "high risk" wards when the grocery store was PROBABLY the most dangerous place to be in terms of chances at getting infected. But this is all compounded by a culture or nurses constantly patting themselves on the back and always bitching/moaning on social media about HOW HARD their job is and normal people eating it up and clapping for them
Are you goddamned serious? Nobody was at higher risk than the people working with actual COVID patients.
And they got shafted too.

Where I work, the store's manager had been there from the time it opened @2006 until he was forced by corporate to transfer to another store back in 2016 after 3 guns disappeared. Since then, we've gone through about 4 store managers. One quit when regional came to have a talk with him about something, he stood up, took off his radio headset and said "I'm going to go work with my wife instead!" and walked out. TBH, he was an ass that played favorites. Our current SM, she's pretty nice and fair.
My manager's been there for six years. Before he got there, my department(customer service) was surprisingly stable, but ever since he got here, it's been a constant churn of people, especially at supervisor(that team leader has since become a store team leader). He straight-up doesn't know what goes on the department or how to do my job or maintenance(like, not even the most basic stuff). Multiple people have complained about him, both to Store Leadership and to Regional.
Nope, dude's untouchable. Must be incredible at kissing ass, it would be his only strength. He spends 90% of his time in back.
He's also annoying and nitpicky as hell, but he mostly leaves me alone. I think he sees me as beyond hope lol.

We simply werent properly prepared. Our supply stocks were practically useless from lack of maintenance, and our healthcare system is premised on having just enough to save money. Particularly, ventilators and PPE for medical personnel. Not having enough of those undoubtedly made a bad problem worse. Thats the easy stuff.

The hard one is education. Theres a powerful undercurrent of anti-intellectualism in this country, that casts entire professions(apparently including medical personnel) as liars, cheats, and frauds.

As for pandemics...well, you cant prevent them. Theyll happen, and all we can do is contain them as best we can.

Yeah, it's worth acknowledging that additions are a major barrier to using Albert and Haschel effectively. The former especially has some pretty crazy timings. I mean, I suppose you could Ultimate War God it up, but still. Meru has one or two that are tough too, but nothing that bad. Rose though? Rose has easy additions.
I guess one of Shana's upsides is that, because she doesn't have additions, you can just kind of swap her in at any time without worrying that she'll suck because you haven't been working on her additions.

Also, I got to thinking about Kongol, and I think the easiest thing to do would give him the same damage modifiers as Meru(and give him the normal Dragoon addition cap, why did they even do that to him!?). He rarely gets to act, let him have that crazy 600% damage modifier on his final addition to really cook with his sky-high attack(plus, he's GIANT, c'mon!). I was thinking about spells, and it makes sense to give him one that works independently of his atrocious magic(he arbitrarily only gets three spells), and you know what makes the most sense for Earth?
Damage reduction, lol.
Maybe let him reduce enemy defense for a few turns and have it work on bosses! so Kongol just becomes "big numbers" the character, and let him and Rose be "easy addition" characters.

Shana is tedious as hell and pretty much dead weight in normal encounters. Meru isnt much better before her final addition. Bosses are a different story, of course.

Rose and Daschel have a great mix of speed and power, whereas Albert is beefy and hits hard, and Rose Storm is baller utility on a character with otherwise crap magic. Kongol is hilariously terrible, because they just randomly decided he should have worse additions(normal AND dragoon!) than everyone else, meaning he cant even take proper advantage of his insanely high attack, making his combo of garbage speed and magic defense even worse.

But you can mostly use whoever you want, because the games just not that hard. If they ever remaster/remake it, hopefully theyll fix Kongol though.

I'm actually doing a paper for a sociology class about mass incarceration, and I can tell you it was rooted in notions of personal responsibility and those in power patholigizing urban blacks as fundamentally broken and criminal(which conveniently absolved those in power of blame for the rampant racism and the disproportionate rates of poverty, undereducation, and unemployment in these neighborhoods).
What does this have to do with the topic at hand? Because it works the other way: it also told (successful, mostly white) Boomers that their success was due to their superior ability and moral fitness i.e. it taught them they were better than those other people who didn't succeed. So they're primed to blame us for struggling, because it both validates their success as special and absolves them of responsibility for creating an environment where most of us are doomed to struggle.
That's very macro-level, of course.
