Inceldom is an extremist ideology at this point that has resulted in both terrorism and child sex abuse. They should completely be shunned and yes it is the worst thing to happen to modern men.
I don't know, I think Trumpism is the worst, but then, they're both similar phenomena.

Basically, society promises a lot to men, especially white men. It promises them they'll be powerful, they'll be in charge, they'll be the breadwinners, that they'll get the girl. The way things are, those are promises that society can't really keep. Rather than examine their own faults or the faults of the system, both ideologies(again, they overlap significantly but not entirely) blame "the other". The system would work fine and you would be everything you're supposed to be, if those women/immigrants just knew their place.
This is why they're so powerful: the base grievance is very real. Fewer and fewer people can live comfortably in our societies, and even many of those who make it find making it draining and unsatisfying. Blaming women and minorities is just easier than blaming the power structure you feel entitled to be a part of.

Oh, certainly. Its built into the very foundations of the country and animates political discussion and policy to this day.
Thats the thing about racism: when its baked into the system, nobody even needs to go out of their way to *be* racist(though all too many do). Just accept the way things are, just do your job, redline that neighborhood, hound that black woman trying to get TANF, follow that black guy and check his car because you maybe saw him buy some pot, he just fits the description, promote the white guy because hes a culture fit and the Hispanic lady isnt, build the pipeline through that tribes land, nobody with political power lives there and you want to keep those lobbyists happy, etc. etc. etc.

I don't know what that is
It's a game set from 1836-1936(thus the name: Queen Victoria ruled during most of the time-frame, as the British Empire reached its apex), and it's primarily a game about industrialization, revolutions, colonialism(either seeking to carve up Asia and/or Africa, or avoiding getting carved up by hungry European powers). It uses a POP system, but even Victoria 2's is more complex than what you see in Stellaris or Imperator. POPs work jobs, POPs migrate in search of better lives, they fight your wars(and die), they rebel(and die). It's a game that's quite a bit less about map-painting than Europa Universalis, and more about building a sphere of influence, acquiring strategic alliances, and acquiring colonies to supercharge your industrialization so you can field the truly massive armies and navies you'll need to fight other Great Powers.

Yeah, Victoria 2 runs from 1836-1936, and the exact start date was picked to justify having an independent Texas on-map. It also happens to fit well for other areas: the United States of Central America and Peru-Bolivia are in the process of disintegrating, but not yet dead, for example. And theres still time and space for non-European, non-Japan powers like Persia or the Sikhs to break out and assert themselves.
And you have the Oriental Crisis happening right at the start, with Egypt trying to break away from the Ottomans, Greece and Serbia are independent, etc. etc.

In any case, Im glad this is Wizs baby. From following his LPs and his modding work, I can say with confidence that he loves Victoria for what it is, and well get something that carries it forward without losing its janky charm. And, of course, he was instrumental in getting Stellaris to the point of being fun(at least for a while).

Regardless, they've stopped for now, even though they had no tactical reason for doing so. That's an improvement over Trump.
Well, they probably do: ole' Bibi Netanyahu has rallied political support and possibly weakened the coalition arrayed against him. Also, Israel got to terrorize, expropriate, and murder Palestinians, consequence free!
They could have continued, sure, but the thing is: They will, once the heat has cooled/Bibi needs to rally voters around the flag again, and this same song and dance will happen again and again, right up until there aren't any more Palestinians left to terrorize, expropriate, and murder.
Basically, it's not a return to the status quo, it's a steady worsening of an already evil and untenable status quo.

Its really not? The only thing thats seriously affected are Habitats: they freed up pop growth significantly in the latest patch.
More importantly, pops actually migrate on their own now if they dont have jobs this happens faster in democracies and/or if you build transit hubs so you just cap your little farmworlds off and theyll automatically feed your forge world ecumenopolis(es) pops.
They also buffed clerks significantly so the pro move might not be to deactivate them all the time every time.

It's also generally a Paradox Developer sale(the usual -75% off base game, -50% off DLC*) and this weekend in Paradox Con, where they're apparently announcing a new title.
Oh, and Europa Universalis IV has apparently reached "super buggy from a messy expansion" status from "nearly-unplayable train wreck", if you were wondering.

*But not the most recent expansions, and Crusader Kings 3 is only 20% off.

So yeah, if you wanted to take Stellaris for a spin, this is a great chance. It's in the best shape of its life, even.

Do they? I thought for Cheetahs it was the opposite. I remember watching a documentary about how they observed cheetahs starting to hunt in packs now because of that
The numbers, from a quick google search, range anywhere from 40 all the to 58% of hunts end in a successful kill, which is a significantly higher rate of success than most other predators on the savannah.
http://www.bbc.com/earth/story/20141104-the-truth-about-cheetahs
Here's an article about their hunting, which cites one study:
For a start, cheetahs have one of the most impressive kill stats of any carnivore. In 2012, she and her colleagues revealed that of 192 chases observed in the Serengeti over almost 20 years, 114 ended in a kill. That's a 58% success rate.
If you take out kills that get stolen(happened around 10% of the time), it comes to 48% of the time they take down their prey and get to eat it, which is pretty good.

Yeah, even when stuff like lions and hyenas aren't actively out to kill them, they just roll up and steal their kills all the time, because, (IIRC) cheetahs actually have a pretty high rate of success on hunts.
Imagine running down a gazelle at 70 MPH and wearing yourself out so much you can't even eat your food right away because you need to catch your breath first, and some big jerks just roll up and steal your food and all you can do about it is run away and try again later.

In just the past 15 years, there have been not one but two "black swan" recessions, and if you go back another 5 years, you hit 9/11, and a few more gets you to a major subversion of American democracy(which also happened 5 years ago).
This isn't just the same old systemic problems, it feels as though the system itself is breaking down, and our elders by and large insist everything is fine while we choke on the toxic fumes of runaway inflation of the price of college, rent, property, etc. as relative wages remain roughly equal in dollars to what they were 40 years ago. All this while global warming is taking off like a rocket.

The system is failing. The only question is whether we do something about it before or after it really breaks down. 1/6 should have been a wake-up call insofar as how close we came to a fundamental breakdown.

Working at Whole Foods is trash. Insufferable company culture while basically being the exact same pile of garbage all the other grocery stores are(just moderately better starting pay).

I think my favorite is that supervisors basically run the Front End while the actual managers answer e-mails and/or goof off all day, and they only get $1/hr. more despite having an insane list of responsibilities.
I have plenty of cool coworkers though, so it's not a total loss, but my manager is the one everyone agrees is the worst.

New Haven. Though I must admit I've only actually been to Pepe's(which happens to be right next door to Sally's and is the most famous one) and I've also gotten pizza from Zuppardi's, in West Haven(which is also old, storied, and phenomenal).
Pepe's is most famous for its White Clam pie, made with fresh Rhode Island little neck clams. Don't knock it because most places are too damned lazy to prepare and chop fresh clams on the reg.

The other old famous one is Modern, on State St. in New Haven(not far from the other two).

Really, I can recommend New Haven. It's got three colleges(Yale, New Haven University, and Southern Connecticut State University) crammed into it, tmuseums, shops, a few theaters, tons of restaurants(not just pizza, though the pizza is, of course, amazing), and it didn't suffer urban blight on the same scale as Waterbury or Bridgeport. Plus, there's some good beaches and hiking nearby. If you have to be in Connecticut, it's the place to be.

cars.com is pretty decent, though a lot of sites have listings. If you know of local dealerships, they probably have sites you can browse as well.
$5,000 isn't much, so unless you have some money to kick in, don't set your sights high. Generally speaking, you want to get a car with as low mileage as possible and from a brand that either holds up well and/or is cheap to fix. Never buy a car without a record and without giving it a thorough look-over(if you know about cars, check it out yourself. If not, bring some one whose familiar with mechanics, if possible). The dealership wants to make the sale, but some of them will be honest. Others....not so much. You definitely want to research prospective sellers as much as the cars they're selling.

ElatedVenusaur
05/15/21 10:33:36 PM

Do you know the firmness of your current mattress? And is it good?
Firmness is rated 1-10, with most mattresses falling in the 4-7 range. Your firmness needs vary based on your weight and your sleep style.
Like, for example, side sleepers generally need softer mattresses(or at least a pillow top) because their body weight is distributed narrowly, and a too firm mattress is going to cause hip and shoulder pain. However, youll need to go firmer if like me a soft mattress doesnt support your spine correctly.

Most mattress companies offer a free trial, but be sure to read the fine print: some may require you to donate a mattress to return it, or pay out of pocket to have it removed.

Edit: Oh, and don't cheap out on a frame/box spring/whatever. Get something that is sure to be able to support the weight of your mattress and the people who will be sleeping on it.
