The only one I've followed in recent years is Black Clover, but I've enjoyed it a lot. It started a bit slow, and Asta's Japanese voice is nails-on-a-chalkboard awful so watch the English dub instead, but get past those and (IMO) it turns into a really fun show. Cemith posted... is there a slice of life I should watch instead? Now that's more my speed. I've got plenty of those I can recommend. This is the first time I can recall where there are already active Precure fighting the bad guys in episode 1 before the series even officially starts. Two of them, in fact! Hime (Cure Princess) is a clumsy failure of a Precure with severe confidence issues, and she gets bailed out by Iona (Cure Fortune), who's good at being a Precure but is also a complete fucking bitch who hates Hime's guts and considers her a liability. I've had this meme saved for a while and now I finally understand the context... https://i.imgur.com/gnIbWeR.png And to top it all off, Megumi is already a huge fangirl for the Precure before meeting Hime and getting to become Cure Lovely at the end of episode 1. It feels weird that the lead pink Precure isn't actually the first Precure to transform on-screen, and I think this is the only series where that happens. https://i.imgur.com/ErtfCkQ.png https://i.imgur.com/Xdk7XLo.png Then the fight happens in episode 2, and they get absolutely wrecked. After a hasty retreat, Megumi just randomly gets to meet GOD HIMSELF... https://i.imgur.com/6NR5d6Y.png ...who casually loredumps the situation at hand. Hime runs off because she's too scared and lacking confidence to fight again, which leads to... https://i.imgur.com/hVPdZzd.png ...a non-combat transformation? Another thing I've never seen in a Precure series before. She transforms into a detective and finds Hime easily, then gives her a pep talk before a second round against the bad guy. Oh yeah, there's mooks fighting alongside the monster of the week too. Heartcatch and Star Twinkle also had these, but it's another rare thing that most Precure series don't have. https://i.imgur.com/sSvCV2V.png Cure Princess finally gets her first win against a bad guy, a big confidence boost, and a loot drop. Looks like their power-ups come as PreCards (gee I wonder how many of those they suckered Japanese parents into buying for their children) and those are what allow for the alternate forms. Happiness Charge is actually considered one of the lowest-rated Precure series by most of the fanbase, so I'm guessing that the writing takes a nosedive in the second half or something. | Calwings 08/10/21 12:54:45 AM #397 | As of today, I've finished both of the backlog anime I had been working on. Idolm@ster Xenoglossia was weird at times, but still pretty fun. I'd give it either a 7.5 or 8 out of 10, not quite sure yet. I also finished the 2nd season (out of 6) of Major, and it was even better than the previous season, a 9 compared to the previous season's 8.5 score. I'm going to take a break from Major before I go into the next season and watch something else... https://i.imgur.com/sbe3GPM.png ...which would be my 10th Pretty Cure series, Happiness Charge Precure! I've finished 8 different Precure series so far (Futari Wa, Heartcatch, Suite, Smile, Go Princess, Hugtto, Star Twinkle, and Healin' Good) and obviously I'm also watching the currently airing Tropical-Rouge series too. I've attempted three but never actually completed one successfully. The first two I failed, but they were so long ago that I can't even remember which games they were in. My most recent attempt was last year in Leaf Green, but my save data got erased so the run ended inconclusively. I've thought about whether to try again in Leaf Green at some point or attempt a Nuzlocke in a different game but never decided.
