I got the original as a Christmas present in 2005, which was a perfectly timed transition into the March 2006 release of KHII. I basically OD'd on the series during that year, falling in love with the world and 100%ing each game twice, IIRC. It also felt like I had somehow "cheated" since I was able to experience both games nearly back-to-back while other fans had to wait over three years for KHII (and three years felt like a much longer wait back then).

Whenever I reminisce about KHI/II, I always make the decision to leave them in my past. I have such fond memories of my younger days with them and worry that I simply wouldn't enjoy them these days.

Personal side-story here, but I was unaware that the Covid Relief Bill including a provision which eliminated COBRA premium payments from April 1 - September 30. COBRA was the second biggest monthly expense for my parents, who have been struggling to see if an early retirement is possible (since they realize my dad won't find another job in his early 60s). This will save them just under 6k over the next six months.

No, but if you further incentivize single-home ownership for a person who wants to use it as their residence and further disincentivize landlording, you'll have more owners of individual homes and fewer renters, and I think that'd be a net positive for society overall (otherwise I wouldn't be making this argument).

Having a "superstar" CEO is probably the primary reason their stock has spiked enough to create that P/E ratio though. If you've properly filed tax returns and qualify for stimulus payments, you should have received them all by now (especially if the IRS has your direct deposit information on file).

Do you know if you were claimed as a dependent on your parents' return? I believe that would have disqualified you from the 2020 stims, and although you would still qualify for the 2021 stim, it would have probably gone directly to your parents (this is the exact situation that happened with my grandma, who is claimed by my parents as an adult dependent).

I watched a good chunk of the court proceedings today, and this is such an open-and-shut case that I'm mentally preparing myself not to get too enraged if Chauvin walks. The defense attorney argued that the bystanders yelling and calling the cops names caused them to "divert their attention from the care of Mr. Floyd."

Based on the numbers you've provided, I'm guessing these condos are going for roughly 300k? If so, are you sure you can afford that on 60k income? Seems like that mortgage might stretch you a little thin. The security of your "permanent" job sounds great, and I feel bad giving you pessimistic advice, but after looking into the LA housing market for a while...

Move out of LA. My brother has been trying to buy a house there for years (he can't move because his job keeps him there) and is always priced out. I advised him to save his money over the last 12 months, anticipating a Covid real estate dip, and of course, prices spike. Small homes in Highland Park that were 800k a couple years ago are now running 1m+. The damn city - or at least the hotspots near downtown - is seemingly impervious to market dips because of the unending torrent of foreign buyers, young DINKs using mommy and daddy money, and people sitting on piles of money making cash offers (if you look at this housing market long enough, you start to live in a warped reality where you assume *everyone* has a million dollars in free cash they can just offload into a home).

It may seem like guaranteed equity since, as you said, prices have just continued to climb, but the cost per sq ft is so ridiculous compared to almost anywhere else in the country. Also, if a realtor actually told you that you'd be able to afford anything on 60k, I suspect they might be selling you a bill of goods.

Also regarding your mom's trailer: yes, sell that as soon as it's yours. I've seen the industry from the inside (my first boss was a co-owner of several mobile home parks) and it's one of the most ridiculous rackets I've ever seen. It's amazing for the land owners and woeful for the people who actually own/rent the homes. It's so advantageous for the land owner that I used to think about saving up and trying to partner with said boss on a park, but I've given that up because I know it would make me feel like a gross slumlord.

I've been trying to get into academia for a while *without* a PhD, and yeah, non-PhD, non-tenure lecturers at UNLV will make around 70k, but good luck landing a job that competitive. A colleague landed a lecturer position at the local community college, and he told me he started at 49k teaching five classes a semester =/

I've been teaching part time for a couple years, and I get paid under 4k per semester course. It's basically starvation wages part-time, and the odds of fulltime lecturer work are slim.

Would anyone here argue that a stripper has any moral obligation to "cut off" a horny and clearly illogical patron from spending his last dollar at the club? The dancer may not be the "greater party" in the same way a celebrity might be, but she clearly exerts influence on the patron and the power dynamics in the club favor her.

Friends of mine bought a home in Charlotte 2-3 years ago, and I was amazed at all the home/land they got for the money, though based on these stories, maybe things have gotten a lot hotter and more competitive since then.

There sure is a lot of accepting that the world has a lot of fucked up, but not super fucked up, people in it and saying we shouldn't ever even try to strive for any better in this topic.

Most people have a pretty pessimistic outlook of humanity in general (I ran a B8 poll about this a while back, and the split between "people suck" vs "people are cool" was at least 75/25), and a fair number of us have a shitty view of ourselves.

That said, I do think we should strive to better. In this example, a guy like Dan is never gonna stop living out his rock fantasy and hooking up with fans, so he should at least mitigate the emotional damage and be upfront as fuck with his intentions, the way someone like Gene Simmons probably is.

Yeah, I wouldn't call him a groomer (at least not of underage girls), but if these stories are true, he is manipulative and scummy. I'm guessing he's an emotionally stunted manchild who can't summon the maturity and courage needed to be honest with these girls and tell them bluntly that he's only interested in casual flings, so he strings them along and hurts them.

I'm guessing these kind of stories have become way more common during the past decade or two. Celeb sex and groupie culture has been around for like 100 years, but through social media, some of these crazy groupies (the girl in SmartGuy's link writes that she got a Dan/Game Grumps tattoo - she's nuts) can actually establish regular conversation and an emotional bond with these celebs that wasn't possible before (even with E-listers like Dan). That bond has to make the inevitable ghosting much more painful than in the 80s, when a traveling musician banged you and disappeared until he toured the same town a year later.

Also, I could immediately see how savvy individuals could use this store as a profitable side hustle. I saw shoes for $30. Granted, they looked lame compared to the authentic Jordans people fight over, but $30 for new Nikes made me do a serious double-take considering this is a brand I've always associated as being stupidly expensive.
