I think the factory is getting some credit for its general aesthetic/ambiance, but the level design was confusing and grew tiresome. Plus they wasted the boss fight - I'm already forgetting, but did Heisenberg even have a reason to mutate other than "that's what RE villains do"? Lady D got stabbed with that special dagger, but I can't remember if anything led Heisenberg to transform into a less interesting boss.

Castle Dimitrescu and the Village itself were easily the highlights of the game and should have been expanded imo.

I forgot how hilariously rich you can get in this game. My Shep's rollin through the Citadel with 7 million credits.

Also, I'm at Level 24 after completing Noveria. I haven't touched Feros or Virmire, so get the feeling you can get pretty damn close to the level cap (or reach it outright) in one playthrough now.

I'm at level 21 (30 cap) and only now started Noveria. The side quests don't seem as annoying as I remember, though I'm sure the improved load times have a lot to do with that.

I'm finding the visuals quite beautiful. I know ME1 is the most overhauled, but it still isn't a true remake, so maybe the original has held up well for a 2007 game. The gunplay is also inoffensive so far, so that must have been largely improved.

My most welcomed changes are all about the Trophies, though. They were very considerate of completionists like me. ME1 was a nightmare of time and effort to Platinum - now it's theoretically possibly to do it in one playthrough (though you'd need to start with Insanity). The original game required a minimum of three well-strategized runs.

Yeah, ME3's ending took so much out of everyone's sails that we forget (or at least I do) most of the game leading up to it was almost peerless in quality.

Who knows, maybe it'll hit a little different now when we're almost a decade older and generally mellower about these things.

Finished the Knife/3-Hour run with juuuuust enough cash to unlock infinite ammo for the STAKE. Once I finish the Village of Shadows difficulty, that'll be just about it for all the non-Mercs trophies, at which point I'll retire this game and move on to Mass Effect. Three playthroughs is about right for this bad boy (I gave RE7 only one!).

Not a good look, but I think its a little bit of a bamboozle if he was trying to factor in apartment ownership.
A condo/apartment in nicer parts of Las Vegas goes for 200k. In LA, it's like 500k, meaning it's gotta be at least that high in a NY borough.

I can't help seething with jealousy whenever I'm confronted with an example of these people who have either inherited everything or started 40 years ago (when it was possible to own a home on like $11 an hour) and are now sitting on a mountain of equity. They have no clue what people today are going through.

Finally beat it - the end wasn't bad. Probably much more meaningful for those fans who enjoyed RE7.

I'm gonna try the Knives Out run - is there any way to begin a second playthrough with the Karambit knife immediately, or must I use the standard knife until I reach the merchant?

Legit question - from someone who hasn't played it (and doesn't intend to), are people here actually enjoying the game? Most of this topic and half the other RE8 topic has been pointing out flaws, qualified at the end with 'it's still good though I swear'.
I'm not enjoying it (and there's not much to go in my playthrough). Here are the main sections of the game, at least in my experience thus far:

The outdoor village itself (central hub that connects everything)
Lady Dimitrescu's Castle
Haunted house escape room
Water/swamp area
Ruins that function as enemy stronghold/shooting gallery
Mechanical factory
Chris's section that goes full CoD (I just started this)

Those last five segments - literally everything after Lady D - have been pretty underwhelming. I suppose I credit the dev team for their ambition (these topics are spot-on in assessing RE8 as four or five games in one), but this is a case where the overall package suffers for it.

Also the Stronghold section (the last major area I've cleared) kinda reminded me of 5-1 and 5-4 from RE4, but not as good.

I'm in agreement that Castle Dimitrescu has been by far the best standalone area and the only one I can see myself enjoying in repeat playthroughs (though I've yet to really check out Heisenberg's meth lab).

That's a pretty big chunk of the game lol

Completed the first major area (right at around 4 hours, so I'll also clock in at well over 10), but I'm gonna reboot my save to better explore. The visual style and lack of "pop" on items make it very hard to see many of them. I'm still quite iffy on this game (and first-person RE/Ethan's saga as a whole), but I will say one thing: PS5's load times are insane. They don't seem quite as impactful for older games (I've tried REMake and RE2Make), but the load times for RE8 are literally one fucking second. It's like playing cartridge games again!

Greens fees for the cheaper 18 holes muni courses are $35-45 and are less for juniors/seniors.
I'm not trying to start a fight, but does this mean that the budget options for a day of golfing would run someone $35-45? That's very expensive for a major sport, especially before factoring in equipment purchases.

Other sports that have traditionally had their own financial barriers to entry - like tennis and swimming - have tons of free options. I've never heard of a free golf course.

Obviously, the argument isn't that golf is completely exclusive to rich people, but that its prohibitive cost make it much more likely for rich people to take it up as a hobby, and that alone makes it more difficult for the middle-class and poor to do the same (because the rich won't want them around).

Golf being a rich person's game isn't "a take" - it's the truth. The financial barrier to entry is probably the highest for any sport that doesn't require a horse. Golf courses are the size of neighborhoods; they are excessive by design, and the pompous culture of avid golfers leans into that hard.

I remember my golf outings when I worked for a major financial services firm. Our managing partner would force the office to go out for an occasional golf day as a "thank you" after busy seasons. It was basically another day of work since none of the millennials wanted to be there dealing with snide remarks and side-eyes from the entitled old pricks who golfed there all the time. I'd honestly rather have just been at the office, and everyone would have preferred the day off instead.

Golf sucks and I'm glad the youth are killing it.

And no, I'm not referring to putt-putt or top golf. Those are fine.
