I ignored Vlado because the open fascism was getting a bit much, but I think he rarely posts much these days (frankly its amazing that he has never been banned for the flagrant racism, sexism, and homophobia or the amount of praise he heaps on hate groups). Otherwise I reserve it for spam and harassment. I would never ignore duckbear though, sometimes those topics are incredible.

Even if someone is awful I like to know whats going on. It also helps moderation.

I have never seen a main storyline flop in the last act as badly as this one. The way that it demands you make a choice that makes no sense is just stupid, and the payoff to the main mystery also does not work. It also squanders its opportunity to tell an interesting story about the pre-apocalypse world and doesnt even have a good fish out of water narrative. With that said, I dont want to be too harsh. The side stories and worldbuilding can be great, its the main plot that lets it down.

I really like the gameplay in Ace Attorney. Really great mechanics loop for a story-driven adventure game and it gets you solving the mystery along with the characters. The game works beyond just the story.

Well, since there was a lot of fervent discussion in my topic about the worst game stories and spin-offs, I figured we may as well get a rating topic series going, and that it might be fun to contrast with the B8s best stories list that KP put together.

I dont want to dunk on Fallout 4 too much as a whole, its a good game. Even the story can be very good outside the main plot. Its just that the way that goes, in particular the way that it has you choose between the factions, is really absurd.

Yeah, as far as the main story is concerned I can see Fallout 4. That story falls off a cliff like no other, and it is especially bad since that one had a much bigger focus on the main story than some earlier Fallout games. Some damn good side stories though.

Edit: I refused to finish Fallout 4s main story because I absolutely hated the choice it was giving me for the last part of the game.

Well while I have your attention I thought of another one: Far Cry 3.

The opening of that games story is so good. Then it gets generic and slightly racist. Then it gets all over the place and really racist. Then it has two endings of which one is nonsense and the other is repugnant nonsense.

As someone who hasnt played it, it seems like there is a degree of hatred for everything and everyone in that game that makes it seem like it may indeed be the worst. It is somewhat telling that the defences are mainly Well, everybody is absolutely insufferable for a very long time, but then.... Despite that I kind of want to play it! Seems like it is memorable and notable.

Sorry to interrupt the Tales of the Abyss love-in/hate-in, but I forgot to say that this may be the actual correct answer. Its so, so, bad, especially for coming off of Until Dawn. It doesnt even do the choices thing in a good way, what you can do with Shawn Ashmores character (who was marketed as the lead) straight up breaks the narrative and is really bad if you have one person playing as him. Waste of a cool idea for a horror story. At least Little Hope was something of a return to form I suppose.

The main reason why the reaction to TLOU Part 2 would have been much better without the leaks is the simple fact that the leaks fundamentally misrepresented what the game was both in terms of story structure and plot specifics.

Also since it came up I am using a broad definition of story-driven, not games focused solely on story (and besides, none except the most basic visual novels are purely story-focused). A story-driven game is a game where the story is clearly intended as a major part of the game and a reason to play. Uncharted qualifies for instance, or MGS, maybe going as far as something like Ocarina of Time but probably no further than that. It excuses games where the plot is just a basic concept like a Super Mario Bros.

Nope. Not even in the bottom half of stories Naughty Dog has done, and Im not even sure its the worst TLoU story. It only got hate because of the leaks and separately an absurd movement motivated by, lets be honest, hatred of women and LGBT people. For that reason its not even a good hot take! Just regurgitating insipid rhetoric.

Though there are major issues with it, the last chapter is bad.

In non-Giant Bomb news, the new Fire Escape cast is four hours long and talks about games for maybe an hour of that. I love a ramblecast but this may be a bit much. At least with Super Best Friends/Castle Super Beast, they just do the rambling at the start then talk about games after, here it is in and out constantly which makes it confusing. Though the actual main concern is Dan burping on mic.
