tundra man is nice. nothing too special but i like it
90s. didn't anticipate the main synth being what it was when the rest is what it is. it kinda doesn't really go together. some of its funky parts are kind of lost on me. also what's up with the low loop point that guitar part near the end clearly wasn't the same as the one before

omega has nothing on gamma's theme but it's pretty good. not as big on it as i was around noms tho

a beautiful song suffers from being a song like from yuuki yuuna that isn't actually . actually i take that back, it doesn't really suffer as it's still easily identifiable as actually very good. I love keigo hoashi's contributions to yuknieryunagard automata and this is a very good selection as far as they go
i love this so much and i hate i am not voting for it

would probably be my favourite song in the entire bracket if it was video game music in this video game music contest. also i should probably get around to picking up some of the yuuki yuuna ost albums since the first one considering the next season is due this year

anyway gaps here are slightly more present than in prior categories, but i still really like everything from Trick and Baroque and up

apollo's one reminds me of pokemon dpp and i would put it higher if i could

i'd say guerilla day 2 is more important (and will have more indie games) than the indie showcase at least especially with the wholesome direct tacked on. the limited run one too, though the fact they couldn't get an official "panel" this time is concerning. i also feel a little sorry for freedom games since none of the press even noticed they announced their timeslot last week so i'll definitely be checking theirs out too

also supposedly they seem to be pushing the pc gaming show and the future games show together so that'd probably only warrant 1 topic maybe

Duality is extremely good.
Grand Finale is also extremely good. Why the heCK does it have to be in the same match as duality argh. I basically voiced prior to now that it was basically the only thing in its bracket quarter that i'd seriously consider over over Duality and while I was starting to really question why I'd have ever said that with the various other good songs in this division, now that we're actually here, with due respect to Shackled Wolves/String Theocracy/Image Material/Targets/Gallant Gunshot/You're Not Here, yeah, I stand by what I said. Gonna have fun sorting out all my ratings i'm behind on eventually...

Theme of the Last Battle is pretty good. Kind of outclassed by the rest of today, but it's not bad.
There are too many zts epic themes. Frankly, past the big 3+death and executor, I really struggle to remember how the rest go until i actually hear them again. But then I do hear them and immediately realise, god damn, that's good. resurrectedreplayer is insane. Maybe not the same kind of insane as the character depicted on the video, but insane nonetheless.

Bowser's Galaxy Generator also isn't exactly my go-to Mario song of choice, but that likewise doesn't mean it isn't fantastic. Really just love absolutely every part of this, I was going to say something to the effect of "that part from about 43 seconds in really sells this for me" but actually on second thought i don't think there's any part that doesn't sell me. It's stunning.
Greenpath is a perfect complement for the most wonderful area in Hollow Knight, a game which despite its best efforts to the contrary, CAN come across as perhaps a little too bleak at times. It's an excellent mood-setter that also drives you forward. Thank you Greenpath. Not siding with it here, and it's maybe a bit of a push to say this was really a tight match, but Greenpath definitely is respectable.

the start of bracket d might seem kind of weak and unassuming especially hot off a match like the first one here (and especially factoring in how strong tomorrow is going to be too) but actually nope

sad wholesome games and limited run are clashing with other stuff (makes sense that wholesome partnered with guerilla now to compensate for the time clash somewhat)

also yooreka studio despite officially being an e3 thing (unless it is literally only 5 minutes, which seems unlikely when they've got at least 8 games confirmed for it). apparently they were also the main publisher for Xuan Yuan Sword 7, which was in the eastasiasoft showcase (for the console ports/localisation) so maybe that'll get another mention too. That game was pretty much the only one in that showcase that looked pretty good honestly.

paradise is the kind of song that serves as a reminder that i'm more into songs that sound like this than ones that (almost) go all the way.

working's just a nice song that's very welcome listening, nothing more but nothing less, and that means a lot more than you'd expect. about the only definitive weakness it has is when it decided to go low budget young adult spy tv show soundtrack style around the middle. don't mind it but also don't care for it.

moekuri, a cute srpg on steam, is actually effectively a remake of another game called moekuri from about 3-4 years prior (it's called moekuri 2 in japan though, but it's not really a sequel since the original lacked a plot)

the eXceed series got remakes of the 2nd and 3rd games like a year after their original releases... though, they don't really count for the purposes of this since they weren't completely rebuilt from the ground up

likewise, the remade version of Gyakuten Touhou from suicayasan (titled Shin Gyakuten Touhou) was only 16 months after the original (4 after gyakuten touhou 2's release) but that again doesn't really count

there's a possibility that the Orange_Juice-produced game Scramble Eve holds the title, having had a limited release at SOME undisclosed point before the release of Xmas Shooting in 2004 (also implied to have been after the release of QP Shooting, which was just 4 months before Xmas Shooting)... But it's debatable whether that even counts either since Xmas Shooting is just an expansion for QP Shooting.

speaking of nom tracking, apparently every nom and support i've had in so far has ended up in a close match since 14.5 rftm (which still got 29 votes lol) and collapsed expressway. only 4 of them out of 9, elegy included, have had margins larger than 2...

would be nice to not have many more nailbiters

Vast Ice Mountain Peak is not a song that has the deepest understanding of the strengths of the PMD2 soundtrack, but it does nonetheless provide its own answer on how to best encapsulate it. Is it good? Yes. It's not the best, but yes.

tatsh is a composer who makes songs that often trigger pet peeves of mine, while also having been an in-house bemani artist. And of course, this being vgmc post-Endeavour, the songs selected here are ones i very distinctly end up loving aspects of and despising others.

I don't get A High Fiber, Japanese Empire Cereal. A game with no gameplay, no depth to speak of, really just only a single message in mind, but one clearly not designed for an audience other than the author, with questionable value even then. Anyway this song is really good for whatever reason and I didn't really think I'd be able to get it in since I kind of got the impression that others didn't consider it particularly special by his standards which I can understand.

Calling just works.

Meanwhile in Teknopathetic the vocals just don't work for me tbh. It does a few cool things outside of them but it just doesn't really come together.

mikazuchi seems to be insistent on being a falcom-style tales of song instead. the thief is pretty alright though i'm not big on the vocals

nilin is basically a spy movie ost but with a few more techno glitch effects applied than usual. frankly, i really struggle to appreciate it as video game music. high above the land doesn't really sound quite right but it's an easy vote here

one last trial is a distinctly high tier hagane song and hagane rules... but, also, i can't shake the overall sense that it's just not quite the same style as crosscode in general and doesn't share all of its strengths, so i'm not really sure how to feel about it. anyway, distant sky managed to grow on me even more now so i'm not sure if i'd have ever flipped

they really overdid it on the vocal song additions in utawaremake. this one originally came from the anime adaptation of the first game to be fair. anyway, suara utaware songs are occasionally incredible, but here it's more like... an inferior LieN (chikayo fukuda vocal) song. not that that means it's bad, it's just a song that doesn't really enhance the experience (if anything, the flood of vocal themes at the end of the game detracts from the impact any of them would otherwise have individually, but i'm not trying to factor that in). also, sprite based utaware 1 versions > prelude. oh yeah also i love tactical field a lot maybe top 5 song in the contest to me (for now it's 2nd but there's definitely at least 2 more songs i'll be putting higher, maybe up to 6 more. top 10's all very close either way). senko great

digifamily, like all aurora memoria songs, is definitely very cool. i think optical mode is noticeably cooler tho, not that they really try to go for the same feeling to be fair.

seraph is kinda like rise up taken further still. cool song with ambitious moments marred by other parts that are not those moments. could've taken my vote if it held it together a bit more rather than becoming generic epic final boss theme. as is, papayas are just too strong.

they don't work now but i had two keyboards when i was a kid and they were both casios. i wonder if they're still as prominent these days, it's mostly just calculators i see people talking about nowadays. anyway song's cool even if my reaction to it is oddly subdued for some reason. grew on me more on the second loop, it really has a lot of stuff i like in it. too bad tonitrus also just clicked for me to a dramatic extent compared to last time

rhythm changer is a song that doesn't falsely advertise at least. doesn't engage me on an appreciation level overly much for a xaki song but it's one of the songs that i definitely much appreciate in the game for helping one think over stuff. speaking of, upper city is a song that almost seems like ace attorney investigation music (not investigations music) in some parts

never really liked rising up as much other go shiina zestiria stuff because of the vocals and the tone in some places but it is still go shiina zestiria stuff and therefore pretty ok

for reference, i'd have rising up and ct both very close to subterranean if they were in that list (probably above onegonjou and collapsing rift). actually that's also roughly where return to oblivion would've landed if i still felt the same way on it as i did last year
