Pretty much any discussion around a subject like this doesn't care about the question of "did they break the rules?", instead focusing on the question of "should this rule exist?". Obviously the rules were broken. Treating that like the end of the discussion is just intellectually lazy, and anyone who doesn't plan to contribute more than that really shouldn't bother trying to participate.

Seems like if anyone has flu like symptoms now adays its deemed to be Covid

It's often suspected to be Covid, but it's not diagnosed as such without a positive Covid test. The days of "presumptive" Covid cases are mostly past now that testing is more readily available (and even then, presumptive Covid cases were based on more symptoms than would be common to any flu-like illness).

Clench281 posted...
the CDC website points out that low flu prevalence is likely due to the measures taken to curb covid having profound impact on reducing flu transmission.

There's also the fact that flu cases in general can be expected to be under-reported this season because people with flu symptoms are going to be isolating instead of seeing a doctor for a conclusive influenza test, meaning it's mostly just going to be serious cases that get confirmed (and those prone to serious cases are doing more than usual to avoid flu infections because of Covid). At least looking at Canada, influenza testing rates are way up this year, but that's pretty much entirely because everyone working with vulnerable populations is getting proactively tested for it regularly, not because the general population is getting more tests than usual.

Spec Ops: The Line put players into a fictional scenario that confronted the very real, human consequences of the atrocities committed in wars like that in Iraq (including personally bombing an area with white phosphorous and then walking through the aftermath, which is one of the most memorable scenes I've ever experienced in a game). This one is putting players into a historic scenario, but steering clear of confronting players with any of the consequences of what actually happened. Don't want to get too political, after all, because there's nothing political about the War in Iraq.

I will say that it is possible for a game to tackle difficult political subjects without explicitly stating a political opinion, and instead just presenting events and their consequences and letting people form their own thoughts and feelings on the matter. The aforementioned Spec Ops generally didn't tell the player to feel bad about what they were doing. It just lead them to do it, then gave them a chance to think about it. But there's a world of difference between "we're not going to state an opinion because the impact will be greater if the player figures it out for themselves" and "we're not going to try to inform players about the reality of the situations they're playing in because we might offend somebody and make less money." By the sounds of things, this game is just being spineless, though there's a part of me that hopes I'm wrong and they're actually just trying to avoid spoiling all the war crimes to make them more impactful.

appetizers and desserts are usually pretty high too

At least with desserts, there's actually some room to justify pricing them so high. They often require different skill sets and ingredients from the rest of the menu, are at an increased risk of spoilage due to being ordered less frequently, and slow down turnover pretty considerably when tables order them (hence servers always push tea/coffee with dessert, which are incredibly high-margin items). A lot of places just don't offer dessert at all because of how bothersome it is, so I can understand those that do pricing it high to offset that hassle.

That said, knowing that doesn't stop me from looking at dessert menus and saying "I could make that entire cake for less than what they're charging for a slice."

An nen is not correct.

A nen is.

While a correct statement, who the hell pronounces the letter N as "nen"?

The purpose of the word "an" is to avoid making multiple glottal attacks in sequence, because that's just uncomfortable. Dipthong vowel sounds (sounds with two phonetic components, such as "I" being a combination of "ah" and "ee") are okay to string together because the dipthong makes it easier to slide into next vowel (such as "I am" being pronounced more or less like "ah yam" instead of attacking both words separately), but the word "a" is a monophthong and doesn't have that option. "Oh" runs into similar problems, but can be turned into a pseudo-dipthong by effectively adding a W ("Oh I" becomes "Oh wi"), which is less an option for "a" because it's a much more open vowel.

"An" exists to add a consonant with which to articulate the following vowel sound instead of making another glottal attack. Whether or not it's appropriate to use depends exclusively on phonics. Spelling has nothing to do with it except for what spelling implies about phonics.

Let's see... using https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/20513/classic-waffles/ as a template and making rough estimates based on Canadian prices (multiply by ~0.75 to directly convert to USD, dairy in particular will be even cheaper than that):

2c flour - ~$0.30
1t salt - $0
4t baking powder - ~$0.20
2T sugar - <$0.05
2 eggs - ~$0.75
1.5c milk - ~$1
1/3c butter - $0.75
1t vanilla - ~$0.38 for real, ~$0.07 for artificial

Total: ~$3.43 for 10 waffles if you use real vanilla (which the hotel probably isn't), $3.12 with artificial (2.57 and 2.34 USD, respectively). Mixing the batter takes ~15 minutes, cooking the waffles themselves can be neglected because you'll be spending that time at the hotel anyway, and then another 5 minutes to clean the waffle iron when you're done (since you can wash the rest of the dishes while the waffles are cooking).

Ultimately, that means those 10 waffles are worth a little more than $3 and about 20 minutes of work. A nice bonus, but I wouldn't really say it's going to be enough to be the primary deciding factor in your hotel choice.

Costs being increased by more than is needed to cover the wage increase so corporate can trick customers into helping them pocket a few extra bucks? You always use "a" if the following word is a consonant especially a "N".

You use "an" any time the next word starts with a vowel sound. The letter itself decides nothing on its own. If pronounced, "N" starts with an vowel sound, and therefore should be preceded by "an." Otherwise, you're saying "a enn," and that's just awkward to articulate. Similarly, "hour" and "herb" should be preceded by "an," since the H's are silent. "Horoscope" and "harmony" should not, because the H's are pronounced.

That said, acronyms do fall into a weird middle ground where they can potentially be read as their full name, by spelling the acronym out, or by pronouncing the acronym itself (in some cases). In cases like the NES, that can lead to some ambiguity about which article is appropriate ("Nintendo Entertainment System" and "Ness" both start with consonant sounds, "N-E-S" with a vowel). In practice, most people just write it however they'd read it (since that feels like the most natural thing for them to do). For other readers, that can sometimes result in momentary confusion if they read it differently, but it never confounds the meaning of the sentence, so it's really not worth worrying about.

They at least hold a controlling interest in them, which is true for a lot of game companies. They're kind of all over the market. Outsourcing the Pokemon moba to them isn't because they have meaningful experience due to owning Riot (they picked Riot up because LoL was already successful, rather than playing any role in its success), it's because they have experience in making other F2P mobile mobas, most of which are crappy asset flip clones of each other. Riot's name wasn't anywhere in the Pokemon moba announcement, so I wouldn't expect them to have any involvement in it.

Recalling, reading and even posting in things on a public message board doesn't mean that person cares I agree.

It means you care enough to devote some time and attention to them. It doesn't mean you care a lot, necessarily, but actually not caring about something generally entails ignoring it.

I'm seeing reports that some gas powered electric plants went down because they ended up cutting power to gas pumps (not owned by them) that fed gas to their plants.

Sounds like those plant managers need to play more Factorio. Lrn2use burner inserters on boilers, nubs.

(For the uninitiated, one of Factorio's power options is to use boilers powered by solid fuels like coal, which must be moved into them via robotic arms. The standard inserters require power to operate, though, so in a brownout/blackout situation, they become unable to add more fuel to the boilers, causing the entire system to shut down until fuel is manually added to the boilers. This can be prevented by using burner inserters, which are less energy-efficient, but operate by burning their own solid fuel, which they can self-insert even in a power outage.)

What I like most about the whole "contract marriage" thing is that he didn't bring it up at all until he'd been talking about "his friend" cheating for quite some time and it became clear that A) Nobody was buying that it wasn't him doing it, and B) Nobody was going to validate him cheating on his wife. It's so obviously an effort to rationalize it after the fact (if it's even completely true, which I doubt, particularly where his ex-wife did some poking around here at one point to find out what we knew about his affairs and give her side of the story), yet he keeps trying to pretend it was a key issue all along and that anyone agrees with him.

Oh isn't there supposed to be a pokemon moba or am I remembering wrong?

There is, but it's a Switch/mobile crossplay game being developed by Tencent, which everyone's super salty about (not that people wouldn't have inevitably been upset over whatever they chose to do with a Pokemon moba, given how much everyone's built up their own personal, specific fantasy of what it ought to be like).

I hope they did add a stash you can access on all characters

The Gamespot article on it mentions a shared stash and some other QoL improvements, though that's the only one they explicitly mentioned.

On one hand, this is pretty cool. I've never actually played D2, despite enjoying several other, more modern ARPG's, and I've been hoping for a rerelease so I could have that opportunity. On the other hand, though, after the nonsense Blizzard pulled with the WC3 remake (namely breaking 15-year-old existing copies of the game by forcing updates on them, which is completely unacceptable), I no longer trust them not to ruin any game I buy from them and will therefore not be giving them any more money until they can regain my trust. I might buy this if I can get a copy for like $5, but it'll be a while before that's even remotely possible.

Well, it's tacky and in poor taste, not to mention hypocritical when they raise such massive outrage when the upmost reverence isn't paid to the deaths of people they like. Conversely, it's like whatever. It's not like these same people weren't wishing him dead on a daily basis. And I'm sure it's not even half as bad as the stuff Gamefaqs mod team -- which so harshly punished people for not respecting other deaths -- are saying about it, considering all of the things the comments they've no-actioned that would have otherwise resulted in warnings and suspensions. It'd be nice if Gamefaqs, Twitter, Facebook, and others ever exercised any measure of consistency, but it is what it is.

Of course Zeus is butthurt about this. On a scale from 1 to surprised, I am 1.

This is a topic specifically about the tragedy in Texas currently happening. I dig where youre coming from, but it wasnt really applicable to what I was talking about.

Oh, I know it's about Texas, I just hadn't realized how long-standing a problem this was there.
