If you spend a lot of time in the sun I'd recommend covering the tattoos with long pants or good sunblock. Sun damage is one of the biggest factors in tattoos fading. I'm comfortable with the notion that my tattoos will weather over time but I still try to keep them looking good. My thinking was yeah you might've missed an opportunity but it's done, so put in your request now and maybe speak to the higher ups to see if you can get priority given your situation. Don't dwell on the what's already happened. You can't change it. Just focus on what you can do now to fix it. Also, don't hold it against your managers for not cluing you in. That'll breed resentment. Maybe they're incompetent but maybe this information was available somehow so some of the blame may be on your shoulders for not picking up on it?
