Yeah, I agree. And even though someone like Meliadoul is great, they come way too late to rank in the S-tier, imo. Especially when you already had a unit that does everything she does, but better, and with even more options.

It's based off the PSP version, which I've never played through fully. I think Meliadoul got coded to actually work vs zodiacs and monsters, and Malak (and maybe Rafa) got bumped up to 10 hits of their special skills to make up for their randomness. Dunno what Luso or Balthier do, but its hard to trump Orly, Agrias, and Calc because instant, ranged, multitarget one shots should be an exclusive rung.

honestly, it's $300 and you've had it for less than a year. No matter what, it's not that much of a difference.

Optimal use is chill for another year+, so when you sell it it's seen as a long term capital gain; it'll be taxed at a lower rate for likely a net benefit.

My umbrage with the game is that there are hundred(?) of mons to play with, but you only have 4 in your party at a time.

Also the stacked tower mechanic is better 90% of the time than the wide array, so most of the time it's a 2-member party a la a very customizable version of FF:MQ, and then you'll want to juggle size aspects as well which further narrows the monster pool.
