I made the decision to quit using it about 15 or so years ago, and am a better person for it. But I'll freely admit that I get pangs of withdrawal from time to time; there's never been a more poignant word for insulting someone's intelligence. And on rare occasions it slips out when no one else is in earshot, most often when I'm having a vent / tirade over a video game loss.

Mental health is a factor all athletes have to battle and the documentary sheds light on the ironclad mindset you need to have to win. On top of that, this was a team sport, she's not just competing for herself.

I don't know if the Pharos ever bothered me all that much to begin with, but after the first playthrough it definitely ain't shit compared to some of the postgame content, like the Great Crystal and Pharos Subterra. Only thing that ever bothered me about the Pharos was getting all the blocks to fall to get the Muramasa (iirc it has something to do with killing a certain number of finite enemies, and of course due to 12's loot system there's always that chance you'll put a Potion or something instead).

Most fun I've had with the combat these days is with either an Ordinator-fueled 2Hander, or an Ordinator + Apocalypse-fueled pure mage. Ordinator makes 2Hand a blast: chopping enemies' health down to three-quarters on a first strike with greatswords, knocking enemies on their asses with warhammers, etc.

@Derwood good post, and something that immediately sprung to mind when this current situation surfaced. I was 13 at the time of the '96 games; I too watched Kerri Strug stick that landing live, and got swept up in the nationalistic spirit of the moment. But I do remember reading a single news article at that time amidst all the praise that basically said 'all I see here are grown men pushing a scared teenage girl to cripple herself.' And even then it really stuck with me and changed my outlook on the whole thing.

You're probably a liar, I'll say that.

I don't doubt that there are legitimate instances where someone cannot wear a mask but these are statistical outliers.

Your initial stance about how it needs to be a choice for everyone regardless of spread indicates how uninformed you are.

If you truly cannot wear a mask, you'd utilize curb side, delivery, etc for essential goods because you'd need to take extra precautions.

So yeah, liar.

Now they're going to complain to you how you need to show them respect in spite of their tired-ass misinformation. They might even try to deflect and say you're picking on them over their grammar.

As someone alluded to already, the most logical explanation was political pressure to 'get back to normal.' The CDC showed that they weren't above being pressurized during the last year under Trump, and even though Trump is blessedly out of the White House now, I doubt that's really changed.

Anyone with common sense knew at the time that the CDC's no-mask announcement would backfire; even beyond the anti-vaxx crowd who would simply lie about it or not care, too many people were chomping at the bit to declare 'finally, mission accomplished, fuck masks, I'm vaccinated and I don't have to care anymore!' (and honestly I can't entirely blame the latter crowd, even if it was the wrong attitude in the long run).

I honestly never noticed this until your screencap, lol. Some things I notice right away, others can fly right over my head even after watching a movie two dozen times.

I probably shouldn't have nitpicked so much as to derail the topic though. It certainly doesn't diminish my enjoyment of the movie. It's just that as I got older, I started to think how cool it would have been watching it to already be familiar with Mr. Stay-Puft at that point in the movie to go 'holy crap it's a giant Mr Stay-Puft!' when you first see his giant head passing between the buildings, and not 'oh cool it's a...giant marshmallow man...!' and then wait for Ray to explain it.

Funnily enough, Stay-Puft's foreshadowing is close to being on-par with the foreshadowing of the Lion-Turtle in Avatar: The Last Airbender - Aang points one out in a book for a split-second, and you can see a few statues of one in the background at Master Piandao's house. And people are (rightfully) critical of the Lion-Turtle for this reason. The only difference is that Aang actually calls attention to it (even for a split-second), while Stay-Puft's foreshadowing is exclusively background details that most viewers will miss.

In retrospect, one of my biggest nitpicks with the original was that Mr. Stay Puft wasn't adequately foreshadowed; the bag of marshmallows on Dana's counter doesn't cut it. Even something as simple as a five-to-ten-second commercial with a cartoon Stay Puft playing in Dana or Louis's would have sufficed. As a kid I had no problem accepting it - hell, I probably owned the Stay-Puft plushie before I'd ever watched the movie - but if I'd watched it first as an adult I probably would've been 'uh, where the hell did that thing come from?'

Point being, those little Stay Pufts were not only cool in their own right, but also kinda fixed the above issue, at least in the context of this new movie. And it was a good indicator that they're not abandoning the goofy comedy elements either.

Another clue which might help narrow things down There is a 19 or so year span from #1 to #7, and #7 came out about 4 years ago or so.

This almost describes Venture Bros. (even though it was more like a 14-15 year gap), but I would fite you irl for putting season 4 that low.

Speaking as an introvert, I can't even begin to tell you what a wonderful waking dream it is wear a mask everywhere I go, be on my guard against potential crazies who might lash out at me for doing so, constantly view friends, coworkers, and strangers as deadly disease spreaders, and generally have my faith in humanity wane more and more with each passing day.

Yeah, the entire second half of the story is bizarre, where literally everyone wants the same thing, to turn on the water, and are all willing to kill to stop anyone else turning it on.

Do you remember when you're introducing yourself to Star Paladin Cross, and when the subject of your father comes up you have the 'evil' option of saying 'he died as he lived: a selfish asshole?' That line unintentionally not only describes James quite fittingly, but the entire main quest as a whole. 'We both want thing, we're both going to use thing for the same purpose, and we'll die defending / kill you over thing, no matter how much sense it would make for us to just work together on thing!'

I can't think of a better example of an entire plot collapsing on the pillar of one bad scene than Fallout 3. The whole game through I kept convincing myself that the story had potential, and that potential was going to pay off just around the corner. But around the ending of Vault 87 it felt like the plot was careening down a cliff towards a premature conclusion, and by the time of the Liberty Prime assault I kept telling myself 'no, no, no, this can't be the ending already, can it?' And then everything came crashing down hard once the ending reared its ugly head.

I was so deeply incensed by the ending that it burned away the rosy outlook I'd had concerning the rest of the game I'd played up to that point, and I forever looked at Fallout 3 with a very critical eye. In the end (pun intended), the ending wasn't supremely offensive in and of itself; it was a culmination of all the bad writing and worldbuilding that had preceded it, and the only difference was that the game no longer had any potential past that point to redeem itself.

And for the record, I don't really think Broken Steel 'fixed' anything. Fawkes / Charon / Whatever the Gutsy was called being able to go in your place didn't really make a difference at that point, when both you and Sarah just get knocked unconscious anyway (and the ending slideshow will still throw some rather unnecessary shade your way for letting Fawkes do it). To be honest, the only thing I actually liked about the original ending was that Bethesda had the stones to cap off the main quest with a definitive ending, not the usual wishy-washy 'the world's saved, now bum around until you get bored' anticlimax.

But even after all that, I still enjoyed replaying it just for the sake of farting around in the sandbox (at least until New Vegas came onto the scene, and even then it took me about a year to really, truly appreciate NV). And there's a small scattering of quests / locations / moments in FO3 that I would still consider genuinely good. But what few itches NV didn't scratch infinitely better, FO4 eventually managed to reach. I have no desire to ever return to FO3 at this point.

A2 was a bottom-feeder in every design facet except for the actual combat, which managed to remain consistent with A1, even surpassing it in certain areas. That to me proves that it's a formula that would take some special kind of suck to screw up, even by modern Squeenix standards.

But as another poster said, they've got that Triangle Strategy ('working title,' but we all know that'll end up being the actual title) coming up, so they'll have their chance to prove themselves one way or the other soon enough.

I'd trust them to make a new FFT more than a new CT. If the new Tactics' story is dogshit - and judging by A2, it probably will be - I can at least enjoy the gameplay. Even Squeenix would find it difficult to screw up the Tactics gameplay formula.
