geno_16 posted...
Theoretically they were building more than one at once. The first Death Star was seen under construction at the end of Episode 3. It was only made fully operational during the events of Episode 4 (or I guess Rogue One now but either way) that means it took 18 years to complete. Thus the second Death Star must have been under construction long before Episode 4 since Episode 6 was only 3 years later and there's no way they completed over 50% of the structure, as well as fully operational weapons systems, in only 3 years when the first took 18 total, especially since the second was bigger.

Also given that it takes 18 years to fully complete a Death Star, it's unlikely that building more than two or three at a time is feasible.
@geno_16

The first Death Star was built in total secret. Like from the top down.

You'd have cargo ships jump to Point A, drop load, more cargo ships pick it up and jump to Point B, then drop load and repeat that at least once or twice more before the materials would ever get to the actual construction site of the Death Star. The whole idea was to have as little knowledge of it as possible before the reveal. Hell, the Empire committed wholesale genocide on the Geonosians to keep the Death Star a secret.

Now once the first one was revealed, the cats out of the bag. It'd have been hella easier to skip all the secrecy with the general populace from before and go full steam ahead with the construction of the second Death Star.

Its possible that, like, the core was in the process of being built, maybe as an improvement in capabilities over the original design. Or very basic construction had started as a just in case but once the first one was lost, all bets were off and the Empire went tunnel vision on eradicating the Rebellion and regaining their lost weapon

https://www.axios.com/biden-trickle-down-economics-never-worked-8f211644-c751-4366-a67d-c26f61fb080c.html

During his joint address to Congress on Wednesday, President Biden spoke of the need to tax the ultra-wealthy to fix economic inequality in the U.S.
Why it matters: Biden wants to use tax hikes on the rich to pay for his American Jobs Plan and American Families Plan. This philosophy has been a sticking point for many Republicans.
The big picture: Biden noted that tax cuts during the Trump administration were a boon to corporations and wealthy Americans and the pandemic has only increased economic inequality in the U.S.
Biden's plans, he argued, would invest in the "human infrastructure" that allows for the growth of the middle class and raising people out of poverty.
What he's saying: "I will not add to the tax burden of the middle class of this country. Theyre already paying enough."
"What Ive proposed is fair. Its fiscally responsible."
"My fellow Americans, trickle-down economics has never worked," Biden said.
"Its time to grow the economy from the bottom up and middle-out."
"A broad consensus of economists left, right, center agree that what Im proposing will help create millions of jobs and generate historic economic growth."

https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2021/04/concerned-father-arrested-peacefully-testifying-arkansas-trans-health-care-ban/

The father of a transgender teen was arrested while testifying against an anti-trans bill in the Arkansas House because his speech went 30 seconds over his allotted time, even though he said that far-right representatives of hate groups were allowed to talk for nearly an hour over their allotted times.
It was just shocked sitting there in jail thinking that this is what happens when you speak to people about how their proposed laws are affecting your children, Chris Attig, 49, told them. They dont want to hear it. They put you in jail.

Video has been shared online of Attig being dragged out of the legislature last month by officers while defending the rights of transgender minors who, like his son 22-year-old did, need access to gender-affirming medical care.
The Arkansas House was holding a hearing on H.B. 1570 on March 9, which banned doctors and other health care professionals from providing gender-affirming health care for transgender minors.
The so-called Arkansas Save Adolescents From Experimentation (SAFE) Act, will ban gender-affirming care of any kind from being given or even offered for consideration to trans youth. That includes surgery (which is not performed on trans minors anyway), hormone therapy, and reversible puberty blockers.
No matter what happens here today, you are loved, Attig said in his testimony, talking to trans youth. You are loved.
Your time is up, said State Rep. Jack Ladyman (R) near the two-minute mark.
Attig wanted to finish his pre-written speech, so he kept talking. The legislators cut off his mic, but he kept going until he was escorted out of the building while everyone sat silently.

Attig said that he was taken to jail, where he stayed for several hours and now faces a charge of disorderly conduct. He said that representatives from the SPLC designated hate groups Alliance Defending Freedom and Family Research Council were allowed to talk for up to 40 minutes and that only opponents of H.B. 1570 were held the the two-minute time limit.
Attigs son is 22, so he wont be denied medical care due to the bill. His father says that hes loved and happy and has a boyfriend.
But he worries about the message a bill like H.B. 1570 sends to the state, that it is permissible to attack transgender people.
Whether or not these laws are targeted at somebody above or below the age of 18, the singular message that they send is it is OK to bully and persecute people who are trans, he said. It says, The legislature is doing it, why cant I?
The bill was passed by the legislature but vetoed by Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R), who said that government shouldnt be involved in medical decisions and the bill was an example of where restraint is better than overbroad actions that interfere with important relationships in our society.
The state legislature overrode his veto and trans youth and their families in the state are now panicking, either planning to move to a different state, get hormones on the black market, or falling into despair as the life-saving care will be denied starting in July.
One doctor who works with transgender youth in Arkansas said that she knows of at least four young trans people who have contemplated suicide since H.B. 1570 was passed.
My families are in a state of panic, asking what state should they move to, saying their child is threatening to kill themselves, Dr. Michele Hutchison said. They want to know what they should do next and we dont have a clear answer for them.
The law has already made transgender youth and their families afraid, and theyre looking for solutions. Dr. Hutchison is worried that families will also turn to the black market.
Theyre going to find a way to get them, and its going to be dangerous because they wont be monitored for side effects, she said.
Others may not have the resources to do even that.
Youre basically kicking these people when theyre down, Dr. Stephanie Ho said. She has cared for about a dozen trans teens in the past. They have very little resources to begin with and now youre going to make them choose between rent and their childs life.

SMH.

His opponents (allegedly) talked for nearly an hour over their allotted and nothing happened to them.

Also a bunch of white Christian nationalist groups are behind and have had input writing these bills, in case you were wondering.

For a teen? Those can be critical years in self image, adult mental health, etc.

Depending on how broad this bill is, even giving profesional advice, and getting them set up to transition could be declared child abuse. Hell, even discussing it at all could be grounds.

In regards to transition or gender affirming Healthcare. shockedpikachu.jpg?

https://twitter.com/TexasTribune/status/1387131431495798792?s=19

https://www.texastribune.org/2021/04/27/texas-senate-transgender-child-abuse/

The Texas Senate tentatively approved a bill Monday in an 18-13 votethat would classify providing gender affirming health care to transgender minors as child abuse just one of the Legislatures many attempts to prevent transgender children from transitioning before their 18th birthday.
Senate Bill 1646 is among several other bills that advocacy groups say erode the rights of transgender Texans. Authored by Lubbock Republican Sen. Charles Perry, it amends the definition of abuse under Texas Family Code to include administering or consenting to a childs use of puberty suppression treatment, hormones or surgery for the purpose of gender transitioning.
But its unclear what the legislations chances are in the House, where another major bill targeting transgender children appears to have stalled.

In a Senate committee hearing, SB 1646 attracted over four-and-a-half hours of public testimony from LGBTQ Texans, their parents and several state and national medical associations opposing the bills intrusion into intimate medical decisions. Social workers also testified the bill could put more transgender children into the foster care system, where they face elevated rates of suicide and depression.
Perry argued in floor debate that the bill was necessary to prevent children from making irreversible decisions that they may regret later, but experts say both parts of that claim are questionable.
According to Marjan Linnell, a general pediatrician, puberty suppression treatments are completely reversible and have been used for decades to delay early onset puberty. While other treatments such as hormones and surgery may cause irreversible changes, Linnell said the risks are discussed extensively with children and their parents before the procedures, which is typically only performed after puberty.
Research also shows that children typically solidify their gender identity around age 6 to 7, according to past Texas Psychological Association President Megan Mooney. In committee hearing and floor debate, legislators and invited experts claimed the many transgender children ceased to experience gender dysphoria later in life. However, many of the studies they cited have been widely critiqued for casting wide nets for participants that often include children who may act gender non-confirming for example, Linnell explained, a young girl who enjoys playing with trucks but do not identify as transgender.

A 2021 study by the Fenway Institute and Massachusetts General Hospital found that only 13.1% of transgender people have detransitioned at some point, and 82.5% of those cases were caused by external pressure and stigma related to being transgender rather than regretting their transition.
The Senate is set to take their final vote on the bill Wednesday. It previously passed Senate Bill 29, legislation that would force transgender students to participate in school sports based on the sex originally labeled on their birth certificate.
That bill has been sitting in a House committee since the Chair Harold Dutton, D-Houston, told the Houston Chronicle its identical House companion bill likely didnt have the votes to make it to the full lower chamber.
Angela Hale, senior adviser for Equality Texas, is glad that House committee doesnt support the bill and said that the conversation about restricting transgender Texans rights should have been left in 2017 with the death of that years so-called bathroom bill, which would have restricted public restrooms transgender Texans could use.

We ask the legislature, and especially leaders in the Texas House, to once again reject this and all unnecessary and harmful legislation and focus on issues that unite us as Texans, Hale said.
In the Senate, both the floor vote and committee vote on SB 29 were split directly down party lines, with every Republican voting for and every Democrat voting against. In both cases, Republican majorities pushed the bill forward despite backlash from LGBTQ Texans and business leaders.
But once the bill reached the house, Speaker Dade Phelan, a Beaumont Republican, assigned the Senate bill to the Public Education Committee instead, where its House companion had been sitting since the end of March. The day after SB 29 was assigned to the committee, House Bill 4042 was heard by the committees six Democrats and seven Republicans.
If the House bill had gone through the State Affairs committee like its Senate equivalent, it would have faced a 8-4 Republican majority. Instead, it went before what Houston Republican Rep. Dan Huberty, who was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated Saturday, called the most bipartisan committee we have in the Texas House during the hearing.

However, Phelan, who assigns bills to committees, may have difficulties making the same maneuvers for other bills, like SB 1646.
The Speaker did not return a request for comment, but previously told Texas Tribune CEO Evan Smith in a podcast interview last session that he didnt support bills bashing LGBTQ Texans.
Its completely unacceptable, he said at the time. This is 2019.
Last week, the House Public Health committee, made up of six Republicans and five Democrats, narrowly passed a bill that would ban children from receiving gender affirming medical care, such as puberty suppression treatments or hormones. That bill hasnt yet come up on the House floor.

Opposition to the sports ban also didnt pertain entirely to how it would affect transgender students. Huberty pointed out in committee hearing that the bill is nearly identical to current University Interscholastic League rules.
Im trying to figure out why we continue to pass bills that we dont need bills for, he said in the hearing.
Even if the bills pass through committee and floor votes in each house, theyll still need to be signed by Gov. Greg Abbott to become law. Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly vetoed legislation that would ban transgender women from school sports, and Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson vetoed another piece of legislation that

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/miami-private-school-won-t-employ-teachers-who-get-covid-n1265462

A Miami private school said it won't employ anyone who has received the Covid-19 vaccine, citing concerns that the injection might not be safe.
Centner Academy outlined its controversial policy in a letter to parents, encouraging faculty and staff to hold off on being vaccinated "until there is further research available." Those who do wish to be vaccinated are asked to wait until the end of the school year.
"This was not an easy decision to make," the letter stated. "It was a consensus from our advisors that until this topic is investigated more thoroughly, it is in the best interests of the children to protect them from the unknown implications of being in close proximity for the entire day with a teacher who has very recently taken the Covid-19 injection."

The school said it won't employ anyone who has been vaccinated "until further information is known."
"We are not 100% sure the Covid-19 injections are safe and there are too many unknown variables for us to feel comfortable at this current time," the school wrote. "Until more is known, we must err on the side of caution when it comes to the welfare of our students and school team."
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention did not respond to a request for comment Tuesday, but has said that the injections are "safe and effective."
"Covid-19 vaccines were evaluated in tens of thousands of participants in clinical trials. The vaccines met FDAs rigorous scientific standards for safety, effectiveness, and manufacturing quality needed to support emergency use authorization (EUA)," the agency said.
Long-term side effects from the shots are "extremely unlikely," according to the CDC. Between Dec. 14 and April 19, more than 211 million doses of the vaccine were administered in the United States, the agency noted.

"Millions of people in the United States have received Covid-19 vaccines, and these vaccines will undergo the most intensive safety monitoring in U.S. history. This monitoring includes using both established and new safety monitoring systems to make sure that Covid-19 vaccines are safe," the CDC said.
One Centner Academy parent told NBC Miami that if she could pull her child out of the school now she would. However, she said she has already forked over $30,000 for tuition.

"The whole year has been unbelievably stressful for all of us to know what to do. And I don't know if there's going to be teachers there," said the mother, who did not want to be identified because she signed a document that prevents parents from criticizing the school. The news station referred to as "Lidia."
"They're very pro 'my body, my choice,' and yet, it's the complete opposite of that is what she's actually telling these teachers. It's your body, but it's her choice," she said.
Leila Centner, co-founder and CEO of Centner Academy, said in a statement that the school's response to the Covid-19 vaccine was made "out of an abundance of caution" and with "thoughtful decision-making."
She said that "tens of thousands of women all over the world" have reported reproductive issues from being in close proximity with someone who has been vaccinated a claim that top medical experts have debunked.
"We know not everyone agrees on this topic, but this is our philosophy at Centner Academy, one in which many of our teachers and parents share," Centner said.

Never been bit by a dog before.
