What they do is they look at the amount of claims filed in each zip code and if certain zip codes have a higher concentration of claims/payouts then that means it is riskier to insure vehicles there and so they are rated higher. So even if you only moved 20 minutes away and to you it shouldn't make that big of a difference, odds are that zip code has a higher average amount of claims than the one you moved from even if they aren't far away from each other. As for why Geico kept upping your rates, there are a bunch of factors that go into determining a rate. Something like any fluctuations in your credit can make your rate go up. Also pulling from the previous point, if other people in your area file claims more frequently than they previously did then you'll see your rate go up even if your credit and driving history hasn't changed. Having said that, it's always good to shop different companies each time you come up for renewal even if your rate goes down. Progressive and Geico are typically the cheaper options, I know a lot of people that just flip flop between the two depending on who is cheaper at the time since companies are always changing their base rates, especially at the beginning of the year when they review the previous year and make adjustments accordingly. That's why it's actually to your benefit to let an independent agency handle your insurance because they typically have access to multiple companies so they can compare your rates more easier, plus if you switch companies they give you discounts like "in-angency transfer" when you switch companies which you wouldn't have access to if you were doing everything online yourself or are with agencies that only represent one company (like State Farm). Especially if you need home or renters insurance, independent agents can usually find companies that specialize in homes and renters and you'll still get a bundle discount with your cars since even though your home and auto are insured by different companies, you're still with the same agency. --- https://imgur.com/TFF3Nn8 Joe Burrow, the legend |

And in actuality it put more burden on people's monthly finances and the deductibles still left people with bills they couldn't afford if they did have to invoke it for an emergency. If people were paying that much for healthcare then it could have at least given better coverage but most of what it did is give people shit coverage that they were forced to pay out the ass for. There were times where I'd tell them to pick up something and they'd refused to do it, but if I picked it up and gave it to her it worked.
