Oh, absolutely, but neither made a difference on the game and both were stupid, that's enough for someone to draw a line.

Point was just that I don't think it's about what difference it made, only that it was not okay and wasn't dealt with right away.

With that said, I don't think you'll hear much about it ever again once the tournament is over so. Every outlet writing about it for us to read on the internet definitely makes it seem bigger than it probably is compared to some of the examples you listed earlier in different times, which would have exploded the internet today (if we ignore that current technology would have caught them).

I don't think most people are saying the last pointer made a direct difference (I'm sure some out there are claiming he would've kept on to it otherwise or whatever, but let's ignore those), I think it's the principle of it, because we've previously lost because of the ruthless beheavior of a single fan instead of just having that fan recieve all necessary punishment. That's the "injustice".

Obviously, the right decision was made here and the the wrong decision was made back then, not the other way around, but I believe it's what the reaction is coming from at least partially. I don't understand the reaction, though I do understand the frustration of course.

Schmeichel had noticed it during the second half and told the referee, it was just more apparent to the viewer during the penalty where he fortunately was not influenced by it. I do hope it's possible to identify the moron and fine him accordingly, but that's almost certainly not how it'll go.

Crying for replays always happen in any match that has at least one semi-controversial call, it's more apparent now than it used to be because of social media.

Obviously most people aren't actually crying for a replay, but the ones doing it aren't because of the booing, but everything concerning the penalty, from the two ball on the pitch, to the dive, to the laser pointer. Considering we've lost a match 3-0 13 years ago for a single fan running onto the pitch and attempting to attack the referee in a match that was 3-3 at time of the incident, I get it feels unfair, and I genuinely don't understand nothing was done about the laser during the match.

I do believe the case here is better than it usually is, but that isn't saying much and I'm not gonna sign any petition demanding a replay. If anything should have been done, it should have been done during the match, now it's over. This part of the match isn't exactly out proudest moment, but it's not uncommon at all.

Let's give some massive props to Vivi for fourth place. He's not FFVII (extremely popular as one of the first big PS1 JRPGs) or FFX (extremely popular despite being garbage as one of the first big PS2 JRPGs). Only top ten character to achieve success because of who he is, rather than the popularity of his game.

Yes because the characters in FFVII and FFX had no part in the popularity of those games and Vivi doesn't at all gain a good amount of his popularity from the Black Mage design. No bias here.

Loving Yuffie's great personality (yes, Leon) in a modern game. She's really fun to control in battle too. Also, Fort Condor is actually somewhat good now.

Jeez, I was speaking specifically about this current tournament and not the whole world or of all time. I might not have specified, but please don't assume I would consider any of this anywhere near as bad as murder.

Booing doing your opponents national anthem is not excused by not having gotten this far before though and thinking that it is fine is part of the problem.

The next day - England deserved the victory, but I'd be much happier about it if they had won without getting a soft penalty right after there were two balls on the pitch.

Major probs to the Danish team for making such a wonderful performance despite of the most horrible experience at the beginning of the tournament. Very admirable mentality!

Now, screw UEFA for not having a bronze match like most other international tournaments, I want us to play Spain.

I wish England could've just scored a goal they deserved instead of this. At least it was probably the wake up call that they needed. They won the game today, but it might as well have been the other way around. I don't care how many times England felt the same way, you needed the referee to be on your favor today.

It's not about understanding, it's just always taken to far despite starting as a joke. Let's not act like England won't instantly compare themselves to all time sides and find the right stats to back themselves if they win this tournament, much more than the others would.

Yes, there's a non-zero chance of Danish fans doing the same, but I honestly doubt it, nothing of it in Spain vs. Croatia, which was a 1/8-final, but still. But the real problem here was obviously not their singing but that it was what you could hear because Spain and Italy were so limited in fan attendance.

Alright, today is the day! Today is probably the biggest match for us since the final in 92 and with perhaps a better squad than we've ever had. It's a huge joy because we don't have many expensive star players like the other teams. Most are playing for good to decent clubs, almost all outside of Denmark of course (at least all that play), but they work so well together, Hjulmand has been absolutely wonderful at creating A++ team spirit. Losing our biggest player to a heart attack on day 1 hurt, but at this point probably only strengthened the team spirit.

Lots of the players still made names for themselves during this tournament. Dolberg, Damsgaard and in particular Mhle has shown world class performances despite only getting much play time due to various injuries. We also have a bench that can keep the same level for once, and most of the star players have many years ahead of them. In 18 we lost on penalties to eventual finalists Croatia (and I'm never gonna stop blaming this on the fact that their goalkeeper left the line every single time, got scolded for it, but ultimately just kept doing it onwards to victory), and the team has only been growing since then. I believe we're in the beginning of a strong Danish era, where we can compete at the top even if we're not often favorites in the top matches.

I also love being around Danish fans. Lovable bunch just happy to be here. The minority that s***talks Braithwaite at every opportunity can stay at home, but otherwise I'm very happy that I'm standing next to these people. People that don't trash talk the opponents, don't underestimate them either, wouldn't sing it's coming home for +10 minutes in the semi-final they weren't part of (seriously, it's so ridiculous that it's basically impossible for the three other teams to have fans there to overrule such), and finally, doesn't compare our players to all time players every time they show skill. Pedri has been called the next Iniesta or Xavi god knows how many times. Shaw had one or two good matches and it's Shawberto Carlos all over. I realize that's far from everyone, I'm just appreciating how non-existent that is among Danish fans. No one is comparing Mhle to Roberto Carlos or any other legendary left back despite him having as good a case for it this tournament (which btw is still close to none), we're just chanting his name and enjoying what he's doing for us.

Looking very much forward to stand among these fans and rooting for this team tonight, being prepared that it might be the last time in a long time that we're this far, but also really hoping that it's not, which there's a fine chance of too. Let's f***ing go, Denmark!

Pedri is basically guaranteed to get the best young player award at this point, isn't he? That's at least something they'll walk away with. Just looking at the teams left, because on the top of my head I can't remember anyone elimated that I know is young enough.

No one from Italy is taking it.

Damsgaard is possible, but he probably needs to have a very impressive last two matches to take it from Pedri.

England has Foden, Sancho and Saka might have been candidates, but none of them have gotten to show themselves nearly enough.

They'll probably consider Torres briefly, but if Spain is getting it, I can't see it not being Pedri. In any case, Torres winning wouldn't take it away from Spain.

Yeah, if you look at defensive capabilities then England looks a lot better, but it's hard to highlight in stats other than clean sheets, which they lead in. They've made 9 saves in the tournament, which is one more than Denmark. Denmarks then beats them in tackles and ball recoveries, the latter of which they're in the overall lead.

It doesn't tell the full story obviously, just trying to explain why that isn't as easy to point out this way.

As for exciting fans, well, that's been the downside of England's impressive structure. It works, but it's not the most fun football to look at imo.

Some fun with stats as we look forward to the semi-finals!

Denmark is tied for second most goals with 11 (same as Italy, Spain is in first with 12). Belgium is fourth with 9. Remove extra time and we're first, while none of them are penalties, many being from outside the box.

Denmark has 90 attempts, behind only Italy with 101 and Spain with 95. Switzerland is a distant fourth with 69. The same four are leading in attacks. Spain has 365, Italy 269, Denmark 251 and Switzerland 210.

This is again despite Spain and Switzerland playing an hour more and Italy playing half and hour more.

Denmark then had the most successful dribbles of any team with 86. Next are Italy's 83, France's 77 and then Belgium's 72.

Our offensive stats are ridiculously good this tournament. Plus, it's almost unbelievable we reached this point considering we had what might be the most unfortunate start ever with the Eriksen incident. We're not gonna be the favorites from here on out, but it sure shows we deserved to get this far as much as the others and regardless of how the rest goes, this is already a huge achievement. Really hyped for being in the streets of Copenhagen tomorrow!
