What's a good way for white people to celebrate Juneteenth that doesn't come across as co-opting the holiday?
I assume you are sincere. So...

I am not Jewish or Muslim but have been to Seder feasts and Eid feasts. The equivalent in several Asian cultures. Not something I particularly sought out - I was invited.

Maybe the black community should invite more non-blacks to our cookouts (we know a thing or two about grilling meat and frankly some of you are eating shit and calling it bbq) and have some kind of cultural education element.

People learned about fucking Tulsa from a TV miniseries and probably half the posters here don't know about Juneteenth and there are people who want to cut back on teaching of "Black History".

It's American History.

A cookout is nice for starters. Public service is another thing. There are black families that have celebrated Juneteenth since 1866. Mine has always -even though we have no ties to Texas- and I am GenX.

Juneteenth is when the last of the slaves were freed, in Texas. The Emancipation Proclamation was two and a half years prior to Juneteenth. Texas had little Union presence and got the message way late.
They knew what they were doing. Texas flat out refused to free them. It took the arrival of a U.S. General (Gordon Granger) for them to end slavery.

Definitely not an la thing.

Peppys just sounds like one of those people that'll reach for any reason to feel elitist. It was a dumb take and thats about it.

Some of the wealthiest people I know in my age range refuse to take their car to a mechanic for anything because they've got the time and they like working on their cars themselves.

Only mentioned L.A. because we have a shit ton of rust free old cars here. A former co-worker has been restoring a 1970 Dodge Dart about 15 years now. Got it for like $350, probably could sell it for $5K now. His wife busts his balls about parts so he's doing it bit by bit. I told him to tell his wife a mistress or drinking habit would be more expensive. He loves working on that car, Brings in pics and everything. New paint job and I'd say he'd get $8K, but he'd never sell it. He wants to cruise in that thing.

There are guys - and probably women - who like working on cars. I can do an oil change and a brake job among other things, but I don't like it and pay someone to do it. That's just me.

There are all kinds of reasons for DIY car jobs

Police culture is universal. When I lived in Providence, RI in grad school, off-duty cops parked free at certain private lots to take their wives, girlfriends - maybe wives and girlfriends together - to restaurants and clubs. An out of state company bought the lots and started charging cops. Uniformed police showed up and smashed the gatekeeping kiosks across the city.

The city - not the police department - settled the case at taxpayer expense.

This was 2006.

its mostly Church people/ business owners (who also use church to grow their business circles) who want to recall him. The loud minority.
That and Proud Boys, QAnon and antivaxxers. That's like 90% of the recall movement - for a guy up for re-election next year.

Let's get to brass tacks. The haters can't win straight up and will try to re-call every Democratic CA governor every chance they get until they get lucky.

They can't voter suppress here, so that is why they're working this angle.

See Gray Davis. Gray Davis was the thanks Obama meme but for serious in California during his time. They blamed everything on him.
Everything Gray Davis was recalled for saying we had to do, Jerry Brown did at twice the cost than if we had done it under Davis. There were echoes of Jimmy Carter in that situation too. People complain about politicians lying, then recall a guy who told the unvarnished truth.

TopicHow much meat do you leave on a chicken wing
brestugo
06/15/21 9:34:16 AM

https://www.mashed.com/232151/read-this-before-you-eat-another-boneless-wing/

Sadly, that's not the case. Instead of being a de-boned wing, boneless chicken wings are made with breast meat. The breasts are cut down into wing-sized pieces before being breaded to make them look more like a traditional wing. If you cut into a chicken wing, you'd find layers of meat, fat, cartilage, and bone. The inside of a boneless chicken wing simply yields a thick layer of white meat just like a chicken nugget... because that's what it is.

Traditional wings don't generally have any added ingredients. At Buffalo Wild Wings, for example, the wings come in raw and frozen. When they're thawed, the employees just toss them into the fryer as-is (according to Reddit posts from former Buffalo Wild Wing employees). Unfortunately, boneless wings don't share the same simplicity in ingredients. Because they're made from chicken breasts, they often contain several additions.

Many boneless chicken wings contain sodium phosphate like Tyson boneless chicken wings and Digiorno Boneless Wyngz. This additive is added to deli meats and poultry products to keep the meat moist. It's generally considered safe, although its consumption is not ideal for those with kidney issues, high blood pressure, or anyone looking to reduce sodium intake. You may also find flavoring agents like calcium disodium EDTA, or binding and emulsifying agents like xanthan gum, guar gum, and propylene glycol alginate.

If you see the word transglutaminase on the ingredients list, pick another brand. This "meat glue" is used to bond proteins together. In short, this boneless wing was created with a Frankenstein-esq, pieced-together patty instead of being cut from a single chicken breast. No, thanks!

https://www.bonappetit.com/story/boneless-wings-are-a-lie

Boneless wings are nothing more than dry chicken breast cut up into pieces to loosely resemble the size of a real wing. It sounds like a creation from Dr. Frankenstein. Boneless wings are not wings! They are not even dark meat!
