I think it's something everybody should have.

You know what can be prevented? Not having money for a "surprise" funeral. Then you won't have to go on GoFundMe and beg for money while spamming it all over Facebook groups and friend's timelines.

Edit: Yeah I know it costs money to get but it isn't that expensive. Sure there's still people who won't be able to afford it though but personally I think people just don't buy it because they don't want another bill.

Yeah. I've never slammed a controller or broke anything but I can usually sit there and realize when it's me that's fucking up in a game. I try to get back in a good head space and focused. Sometimes I can't do it and lose and it pisses me off a little. I'll walk away and try again later.

Most recent happenings: They Are Billions on my fourth attempt a level and I am 100 percent sure I have it this time but missed one tiny wall that was kind of hidden by a forest. Caused me to lose.

I went back to the tutorial, every time I pick a character, I'm just overwhelmed wtf am I supposed to do. In addition, I'm pretty used EU4 and Victoria 2 so I'm probably over complicating a lot of things ha.

I will be the worst guy to talk to about this because besides clicking around in the early Total War games I haven't been in to a strategy game in a while.

The biggest hurdle I had to wrap my head around is there isn't an end goal. There are some "major" goals depending on your character. Like the Norse guy I mentioned 1000 times above, one of his "major" goals is to basically own the Norse area. You don't have to do that. What if you wanted to play him and take over Italy or Egypt.

Maybe it was a little easier for me to play this because it's the first one i've really tried to get into. I don't have all of these past strategy games telling me what i should be doing or effecting the way I play.

After another night of reading/playing I've decided that the Norse start I kept talking about above was just such a "Special Circumstance" where you have the ability to take over whatever kingdom you want and that's your game beginning. It's whatever you start it to be with your first conqueoring.

Muenster is a tad too slow for my taste.

So i started up as Jarl Halfdan "Whiteshirt" of Jorvik. You are immediately at war to take over all of Northumbria and it's pretty easily winnable. This gives you a good starting point, albeit above domain cap. You'll need two more small wars to get below the domain cap. Merica below you has holds to three counties, two of which need to be taken over to get two more duchy titles. (Jorvik and Lancaster I believe) which lets you make a Kingdom. I had to do a lot of raiding to get the cash for the titles needed and had to bang out some prestige.

It's a nice releaxed start for the most part. I feel like as of now I have a good foothold and can manage it within my reason.

But that's who Murchad is :P He lives a simpler life! I imagine with him you can get to Raiding instantly as he's Tribal. Which means go loot your neighbours with no casus belil. Use that gold to upgrade your county.

Does he start with any kids? Marrying off your kids to powerful allies is a great way to start conquering land early, as you can get them to do it all for you. He's also Tribal so he doesn't even need Claims to take titles. Just be sure to check your opponents allies too when gauging strength.

I don't believe they were tribal or I would probably have more fun with them. I think I had to get claims for everything Murchad does. He has a claim to Kingdom of Ireland I believe, and also has one to a county that makes up the rest of his duchy. He does start off with a son, both you and your son are unmarried so there's two spots for alliances there.

mattymad posted...
The other guys is already accomplished and old so that's his story. You can try and squeeze some more out of his large army by taking land, sure. But I imagine the second he dies, his land is going to fracture between all his kids? Your Primary Heir will always have less than your previous character, unless you've been able to progress whatever government you're under to allow full, singular inheritance.

Yeah, he only starts with 1 duchy but an insanely high prestige (3500) and a lot of troops (like 3500ish) and seems to be meant to plunder and pillage some areas before he kicks the bucket. I've found I have to at least get a Jarl title or I lose a LOT of land if he dies, depending on heirs. He seems to do nothing but war and bang his wife, plus he can take concubines so there's a lot of heirs still to come when you start with him.

mattymad posted...
So that 1k High Quality army has a chance to take out your 3k levies, as high prowess Knights get INSANE amount of kills if you look at the post battle summary.

This is like every battle with Haesteinn, he has some great knights to start and if you invite them right away can get a few more quickly. He kicks everyones ass as long as the number of enemies isn't double what he has.

Fun fact. For every point in Prowess (the hand grabbing a sword icon next to the primary stats) a Knight has, he gains 100 Damage and 10 Toughness. A single Levy has 10 Damage and 10 Toughness. So those 30+ Prowess Knights you see, are worth 300 Levies ALONE and is 30x less likely to die than a normal levy solider. Knights make or break an army. Be sure to ALWAYS try and find the best knights you can and be sure to always fill your available Knight slots.

I didn't know it was THAT big of a difference. That's crazy.

I always play Random start so my advice might not line up but...

Make your own goal and try to achieve it. My honest answer would be you are over complicating it. There is no 'right' way to play. With the way events turn out, the random decisions, the random outcomes of schemes, etc... You could die within 5 minutes of playing, or have your guy survive to be 70+.

I can give more gameplay advice if you need it. I started as a single county title in Iceland in 870AD and a few generations later, I'm the King of Iceland, Norther Isles, Scotland and Ireland. I started with a 300ish army and can now call upon about 12,000 in a single army (tho attrition kills it due to the supply limit).

I think my biggest problem is am I supposed to play both of these guys and say holy shit it's vastly different between them. My guess is yes, it just didn't change the fact I felt like I was fucking up playing the game. Or that I would feel like I'm doing something wrong with the amount of time I was sitting there waiting for stuff to happen with Murchad in the first hour or two as opposed to Haesteinn where if you don't do anything in that first hour or two you've lost a LOT of his life time.

How do I make an army

From what I know so far:

You're given basic soldiers (levies) for land you own. This number can be raised higher or lower depending on your vassalege contract (if you have one) and things such as order/control, if you rightly own that land, etc.

you can also spend gold to create better groups of troops. Heavy Footmen, Archers, Light Footmen, Pikemen, special troops for your culture and so on that are/can be counters to each other type.

It's also a mix of knights in your domain.

It's a lot more complicated but it's all under the Army/War tab. I forget what it's called. One of the F keys will bring it up.

Yeah I've done some save-scumming saves where Haesten can take over anything he wants except for France right beside him and even that is debateable with some luck. I guess the real challenge for him is holding it though due to holy wars and regular title wars.

Whereas Murchad is a LOT more slow to start and I feel like i'm sitting around a lot more waiting for things to happen / waiting for my schemes to unfold.

Like I said, I have very little experience playing these types of games but am enjoying what I am doing so far.

The actual board may be a better place for this but it's pretty dead and CK3 is still a newish release so fuck it, i'll ask here.

I have never been big into strategy games. I fooled around with Rome Total War back in the day and some Medieval Total War but never really "got" it.

I have some confusion with CK3 and it is probably due to lack of experience in these types of games in general.

So preface, there's two characters I have been fooling around with. Jarl Haesten who is one of the 867 guys they reccomend, and also the dude from Muenster who was the tutorial guy. When I start Haesten he starts with something crazy like 3500 renown which AFAIK I have to use or lose before he dies. He also starts with something massive like 3500 troops and 3000 of them are only around as long as Haesten is alive. Haesten is also pretty old. He's in his 50's I think. So how do I go about this? It seems to me he should be conquering quick and fast. I say that because of the number of troops that go away and his renown. I watched a starting video of him someone did where they took over Brittany and then Wessex and started taking over the UK all REALLY quick with like no down time.

Compare that to someone like Muenster who has a non-pressed claim for all of Ireland. Correct me if I'm wrong but non-pressed means it will go away when he dies and will not transfer to his heir. So throughout his lifetime I would be expected to gain all of Ireland? Or gain as much as I can and have my heirs continue on by fabricating claims and such? He has very little army (at least compared to Haesten above) at like 300-350 levies. Most people around him have similair levels or troops OR have a great ally that could basically take over all of Ireland if they wanted to and had title to it.

I guess I'm just having a hard time figuring out the two different play styles for characters labeled as "easy."

With Haesten if I took over a huuuuuge amount of land I would spend years trying to get it under control since it's all religious areas that hate the Norse. I wouldn't have that problem with Muenster. He would be taking over territory so slowly that you could control it as you went.

So in short I suppose, am I just reading too much into this? It's not making me feel like i'm playing "correctly" when two of the basic characters are so vastly different with no real explanation as to why or what to do.

I guess I'm just confused.

Edit: I should note I understand this is a Dynasty building game where on one run Haesten might die in the very first battle and things change drastically. But I still have this feeling that I'm missing something big or not playing the game right that kind of annoys me.

That's one of the reasons I took this place. It's small for sure but my buddy was the one who owned it and he COMPLETELY renovated the inside, like new baseboard heaters and everything. (although I have another buddy in HVAC who is going to install two mini-splits, one for each unit after I buy it) I DON"T want to have to deal with repairs and shit all the time. I've thought about buying another building once I get this paid off but we will see. I don't want to become a professional landlord.

As a 35 year old divorced male with 2 kids I did the same, but with a bigger house.

You can rent the top or try AirBnB first (more work due to clean up).

You should sell as a last resort since typically property goes up in value.

Are you doing a 1 year lease or month to month?

Yeah my first instinct is not to sell it but hold on to it and collect rent from both portions if I want to move later or end up getting married and want to buy a house with my wife.

I'll be doing a one year lease and in PA (maybe most states?) it rolls over to a month to month at the end automatically.

35 single male, i'm buying a two unit house in a small town. Top floor is 450 SF one bedroom apartment with a nice deck. Bottom floor is a 450 SF efficiency basically. I'll be living in the top and renting the bottom out. I'll probably charge 425 to 450 a month and that will include internet. Also there's a washer and dryer in the bottom unit so that's a bonus.

If I decide to date and get married I can either rent out the unit I was living in or just sell the whole building.

Seems kinda win/win to me.

Oh my mortgage is right around 600 a month and that includes taxes.

The first night I did the tutorial for like 2 hours or so and thought I could figure it out enough to enjoy it.

What I WANTED To do was start with some small area and take over the world with some sort of fucked up religion.

What I ACTUALLY did was pick one of the starting guys from the 800s. I didn't realize I was already in a war so there were troops moving around my area that I wasn't sure wtf to do with. I married off my heir to the daughter of some sea lord who then tried to get me to invade like everyone because that's what he wanted to do. Basically in the end I fucked up after a couple hours. But I'm going to try again tonight.

This show is better than it has any right to be. It's one of the best of the "let's revisit something XXX years later" shows/movies out.

Hawk is the best character in the show.

I picked booting up your computer but I would have also selected "at your desk." Depends on the job I guess. When I worked in a phone center it was you are typing in your login and password at 8.

I bought a 2013 Ford Fusion with 26000 miles on it like 4 years ago. It's up to 61 or 62000 now.

Really depends on the disability itself I suppose.

I had a sister who was 2 years older than me that was SEVERE. If I had to guess she had the brain equivalent of basically a newborn. She couldn't walk, talk, or really give any meaningful interaction. She didn't eat normal food, everything had to be put up in a processor/tool that cuts up all the food so it was easily swallowable. If she was sick and throwing up we had to feed her by a stomach tube. She wore diapers until the day she died.

It wasn't the easiest upbringing. We never went on family vacations or anything because who would watch her? Even a night out to the movies was a no go. Did it "suck"? Yeah a bit. But it taught me a LOT and kind of made me who I am today.

Kind of dumb to say you don't have anything in common. It makes more sense to say you're VERY likely at two different places in your life and would it really work out?

Album of the Year by The Good Life.

The first song in a whole CD that covers the relationship and breakup of a couple. The first song is just kind of a brief overview but is sad.

Probably 8 or 9 years ago. I was driving home and a lady didn't have her lights on at night. Turns out the back lights were burnt out.

This was on a road with a 70 MPH speed limit. I looked down at my speedometer and then over at my GPS screen and when I looked up the car was 4 or 5 feet in front of me suddenly. I turned to the left lane quick and tried to correct the steering and lost control. While I didn't have control my car struck her passenger side door. We both got off the side of the road and started talking.

Her words were basically "it's my fault, i'm sorry, i've been moving for 48 hours and am very tired." So I'm confused but whatever, this accident is partially my fault. I figured it would get sorted out by insurance. She didn't want to exchange information. So asked her for her phone number and called it before I left to make sure it was legit as this chick seemed suspicious.

Anyways, after two or three days I called her to check in on her and find out what we were going to do. She said dont' worry about it. I insisted we figure this out and she insisted we don't.

Anyways, I figure she either didn't have a license or didn't have insurance and didn't want to get busted. My car wasn't bad, just a dented bumper. Her side door was FUCKED though.
