Granted, I also don't watch TV, which means I'm way out of the loop, but I've usually heard of shows unless they're so far off the radar that they deserve the gooseegg.

There were 532 scripted shows airing new episodes in 2019 (I think this is just in the US), and I don't know how many unscripted shows on top of that. I imagine most people hadn't even heard of half of them.

You can throw coins at the battles (which you will always have an abundance of) to make the puzzles simpler to solve. And I think there's an item/setting you unlock somewhat early that also makes them easier (or solves them outright? I didn't use it). Solving them correctly isn't really necessary either, it just means the battles will take longer and you'll have to use some mushrooms every now and then. Boss battles can be trickier, but there are letters you can pick up during the battles that give you tips on what to do.

The rest of the game is still quite fun even if you don't like the battles.

FYI: some websites haven't updated their guides and thus they do not mention the falling snow wall as one of the snowflake DIYs. They probably also don't mention the festive rug in their list of festive DIYs. These two were just added in with the 1.6 update.

Also my third frog moved in today so I guess I'm officially living on Frog Island. I made sure to decorate my entrance accordingly. It's certainly not something I ever expected, but Ribbot showed up in the campsite and I figured I had to take him. If Huck had given me his photo already I would've reset until he was the one being replaced, but sadly Curt had to go. :(
