Maybe youre too rough with the analog? Ive replaced one DS between my PS3 and 4. I usually play fighting games that really put stress on the pad, but went through a phase where I used the stick a lot when I was playing stuff like Diablo, Operation Raccoon City, Borderlands, Monster Hunter, and Destiny.

Ive had awful luck with the 360 though. Like super bad. The pad was unresponsive in the few months before the system broke, which was about 3 months after I got it <_<

I plugged the numbers into the first calculator (33 for trials, 36% for probability based on the drop rate that someone mentioned above) and the chances of only getting exactly 1 drop in that many attempts is so low that the calculator can't even display it. I'm not sure how to calculate exactly how low the odds are, but at the very least we know that it's less than 0.01% (AKA 1 in 10,000) which is the lowest it can display without simply saying zero.
