I have loved many non-horror games that have pervasive unsettling atmospheres like BioShock and 999, comedy/horror like Shadows of the Damned, and psychological thriller/horror like Alan Wake. When it comes to your standard horror game though, I honestly can't think of one that I hold in high regard. Part of that I think is because of the underwhelming gameplay, and from what I understand, action is largely replaced with exploration/running the fuck away. I'm also aware that this a choice-based game with plenty of cutscenes.

While I do not handle jump scares very well (and I am told that this game has a lot of them), maybe I will do better here. Probably not. Anyway, I guess I should dive into this.

I'm actually interested in this poll. However, because I would play either game, I probably won't end up voting lol. That would mean I would have gone the entire year without voting on any birthday poll.

For the third consecutive month, we will be having a birthday poll! This time, it is TheArkOfTurus who put forth a pair of games

Hyper Light Drifter (PC/XB1/PS4/Switch/iOS)
https://store.steampowered.com/app/257850/Hyper_Light_Drifter/

vs

Kentucky Route Zero (PC/XB1/PS4/Switch)
https://store.steampowered.com/app/231200/Kentucky_Route_Zero_PC_Edition/

Hyper Light Drifter is a hand-animated action adventure game that the lead developer considers to be a cross between Diablo and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.

Kentucky Route Zero is a surreal, episodic point-and-click adventure about a truck driver traveling on the titular road and the people he meets (sorry if I'm not doing this any justice).

Same rules as always. Just vote for the one you wish to be featured next month. You are free to change or rescind your vote at any time. I wish for the birthday person to not vote and in general do not say things to influence the vote.

October's Games:
Her Story (PC/iOS/Android)
Splatoon 2 (Switch)
Golden Sun (GBA/Wii U)

What is Game of the Month Club?
Game of the Month is a community project open to all B8ers where users share, discover, play and/or discuss a select few games every month. The games featured each month are chosen by YOU the users (and Lady Luck)

The Basics
- Each month will usually feature three games that were chosen via a random drawing from a pool of games that users nominated
- For each game you beat, you get a cool point on our just-for-fun standings as well as a nomination for next month's randomized drawing
- In order to receive the point and nomination, you must beat said game within the calendar month
- If you beat one of the current month's games in the previous month, you can apply for a "recently beaten waiver," but you will only receive a point and no nomination should you do so
- Drawing for next month's games is usually around a week before the end of the month
- If you periodically keep us posted on your progress and/or talk about different aspects of the games, then everyone will think you are super awesome!

Nomination Rules
- You get one nomination automatically each month
- You receive additional nominations each month for every selected game that you beat
- Each game you nominate has to be unique from all other nominations and cannot include a game that has already been selected for GotM
- Each game must be a standalone game that can be acquired and played on its own (aka cannot be DLC/expansion that requires the base game)
- Nominations only carry over if you beat a selected game after the drawing for next month's games but before the end of the month

I am ashamed that I completely forgot about this, but I have partially redeemed myself by probably watched it 15 times over the past day. I was talking to my sister about a skit Will Forte did that we saw a decade ago, and I thought it was on SNL, and she was certain it was Tim & Eric. She was right, and I spent about an hour getting reacquainted with Forte's sketches on the show. This one is definitely the best.

Winless teams were responsible for all the eliminations in Week 3 (let's just ignore the idler) as we are left with less than half of our participants this season.

Official Rules
1. Choose one team to win each week
2. If your team wins, you move on. If your team loses or ties, you are eliminated
3. You cannot select a team more than once in a season
4. lolrams
5. You are free to change your pick as many times as you want, but you are locked in once the team you are currently on kicks off

Favorite Three Draft Classes

Anaheim Lightning
MLB Telvin Smith (12th)
FS Andrew Adams (44th)
CB Jalen Mills (76th)
DT Dana Dorsey (108th)
K Ka'imi Fairbairn (140th)
WR Sammie Coates (172nd)
DE Wally Springs (204th)

The Lightning haven't made the playoffs since S2, but if they are going end their drought this season, it will likely come on the heels of their defense. It may not make sense for me to say that they have a borderline great defense and that they might start three rookies there, but if Smith, Adams, and Mills win starting jobs (I'm going to assume that they are rated high enough to contend for one), They've had a revolving door of free agent pickups or mid-round selections at those MLB, FS, and CB spots, so the hope for them is that committing higher draft selections will actually yield long-term solutions instead of more stop-gaps. With the defense coming off of a strong year, I feel good about the odds of them finding the answers they were looking for at multiple spots (to be realistic that would be MLB and FS). I also wouldn't sleep on Dorsey as the rotational DT. They've primarily employed veterans at that spot, so they don't really have a history with rookies or young players in that role, but with how beastly this DL is, I think he has decent chance of making his mark. Fairbairn starts immediately taking over the former two-time K of the Year Neil Rackers. K performance is volatile, but hey, a Day 3 "starter" is still a starter! I already talked about Coates, and Springs is probably a non-factor.

Indianapolis Colts
DT DaQuan Jones (28th)
TE Evan Engram (60th)
QB C.J. Bethard (65th)
CB Mackensie Alexander (92nd)
OLB Darnell Forrest (124th)
OT Ben Sapp (156th)
FS Levon Powell (188th)
G Chris Largent (220th)

I didn't mention this before because I made the pick, but I love DaQuan Jones' potential with this team. This elite DL could become more elite in the future. Engram could start Week 1. Bethard. The rest of the CB group is 30 or older, so Alexander could be a future slot corner or even starter here. Similarly, Forrest is going to a place where the starters are 30 or older, and he will likely come in at a higher rating than the current backup OLB Cory Gordon. Sapp likely becomes the backup OT because the 4th guy is a 67. Backup FSs don't really get a lot of playing time, but the last backup FS the Colts had became the top FA at the position (Lamarcus Joyner) despite only a handful of starts in his career, so if McLeod ever goes down, there's a chance for him to be around the league for awhile. Largent doesn't really have a path to playing time, but several people in front of him have performance and injury woes, so things could easily change in his favor.

Toronto Wildcats
SS Jabrill Peppers (4th)
OT Andrew Wylie (36th)
K Harrison Butker (68th)
QB Nathan Peterman (100th)
DE John Emanuel (132nd)
OLB Sam Adams (164th)
C Donta Simon (196th)

I'm not sure that this makes the Wildcats better this season, making it more confusing probably to most people that I would include them over the likes of let's say the Jets who had an offensive makeover or the Packers who had six Top 100 selections.

Everyone save for Emanuel will likely carve out nice roles from the start with Peppers and Butker starting. Wylie will (likely) replace Blake Gold as the swing OL, and with the severe lack of depth, he will likely be the first man up for injuries to most positions. Current backup QB Sammy Gafney was surprisingly not awful filling in for an injured Aaron Murray, but I think they went like 2-7 or 1-8 with Gaffney. Of course, he's not the reason why they lost, but he certainly didn't do enough to help! Peterman could unseat Gaffney and have a chance to do better if Murray goes down again. I already mentioned Adams and Simon before. I guess I ultimately feel like this gives the team a much better contingency plan in place for injuries, which is partially what doomed them last season.

Seventh Round

Wildcats C Donta Simon (196th overall)
Titans C Michael Donaldson (212th overall)
Washington G Ray Willis (216th overall)
- All three of these players are expected to be backups to players with uncertain futures or those close to retirement. Given the opportunity, they can become career backups, journeymen, or even a long-time starter. At this stage in the draft, anyone with a chance is worth highlighting.

Honorable Mentions
Bengals OLB Tom Chiang (193rd overall)
Giants MLB Dexter Holmberg (209th overall)

Sixth Round

Wildcats OLB Sam Adams (164th overall) - Whatever his rating is, he has a great shot to be the backup OLB for both Barrett and Williamson. While Barrett has never missed a game, Williamson has in three consecutive seasons. You typically don't see many people taken at this point and later to start unless it's a kicker or punter (even then, the game doesn't consider those positions to be starters). If Adams gets to start, then who knows what it will do for his career. Maybe he becomes the next Neil Parker.

Lightning WR Sammie Coates (172nd overall) - Slot receivers have done very well for the Lightning. Their last (Demaryius Thomas) has now been elevated to the starting position after Braylon Edward's retirement. As Thomas and Antonio Brown are 28, it is unlikely that Coates would become either one's successor, but maybe he can parlay that into a starting job elsewhere. To do that, he will need to perform first, and with the effort and improvements the Lightning have been making over the past few seasons, their breakout could happen any time (yes I know that I keep saying that).

Broncos SS Melvin Curry (176th overall) - Of the 32 projected starting SSs in the league, four are current (Darwin Thompson) or former (Lewis Baker, Chris Browning, Derek Linde) members of the Broncos who were drafted and developed there. As a 6th round pick, Curry has much lesser draft pedigree than the others, but the Broncos have a great history with the position, so I have to believe in him.

Honorable Mentions
Falcons HB Andrew Sweeney (179th overall)
Rams WR T.J. James (187th overall)

Fifth Round

Jaguars HB Billy Booker (135th overall) - For the first time in a long time, there's uncertainty surrounding the Jags rushing attack. They were lucky to have Reuben Droughns, Adrian Peterson, Marshawn Lynch, and R.J. Jackson for the time that they did. Now, they have former first round pick Devonta Freeman, Al Johnson, and Booker. Freeman is coming off of a season where he started for the first time (four games) to the tune of a 3.4 YPC. Johnson is coming off of easily his best season, but he is still just a 3.5 YPC runner. All are in the final year of their contract, and if I had to guess who has the best odds of returning next season, I'm going with the total unknown in Booker. We've only had two post-inaugural season HBs taken in the 5th or later who had long, productive careers (Lonta Hobbs and Terrence Whitehead). Because of the much higher talent pool of HB now than it was in the beginning, the odds of that happening again is extremely low, but Sultan is a pretty loyal GM, so Booker has a chance if Freeman falters and Sultan decides that Booker is his guy. If not, and that will likely be the caseI would expect him to be in Jacksonville for a long time.

Falcons DT Kris Jones (147th overall) - While he is playing behind two durable DTs, he will get his shots in as the rotational DT, and the combination of the Falcons future financial situation and the supporting cast he will begin his career with, there's a chance he could be the starter next season as a low-cost option. If not, there's always a few DTs out there that get long careers out of being effective rotational DTs (Ravens' Steve Fiftia is entering his 13th season with 17 starts and Jets' Manase Hopoi also his 13th with 11 starts).

Vikings FS Bryce Holland (160th overall) - Incumbent Ko Simpson is 34, and whoever ends up succeeding him will likely be grouped with a trio of 25 and unders in SS Jaquiski Tartt and CBs Aaron Colvin and Xavien Howard. Holland is already on the roster and thus has a leg up on any future competition.

Honorable Mentions
Panthers CB James McMillan (154th overall)
Colts OT Ben Sapp (156th overall)

Fourth Round

Seahawks QB Ted Burns (102nd overall) - While Kirk Cousins is not in danger of losing his starting job, he has missed time in the majority of the seasons he has been in the league. His last backup, Chad Henne, did pretty well, so I'm liking Burns' chance to be able to admirably pick up the slack should the worst happen again.

Lions C Scott Braxton (118th overall) - While the Lions have backup OL that could ultimately take the backup C spot, 3/5 of the current starters have had extensive injury histories, so Braxton should receive snaps somewhere along the OL. That combined with the age of the OL give Braxton a good enough chance to stick around for awhile.

Cowboys DT Andrew Vance (125th overall) - Two of Jerrell Powe and Ryan Walker's backups are starters on other teams (Lion's Dominic Lee and Bucs Dominique Easley). Powe and Walker are 31 and 30 respectively, so assuming the Cowboys can continue to pay them, they should be around for some time still, giving them more opportunities to grow a rotational DT. Vance is just next in line.

Honorable Mentions
Lightning DT Dana Dorsey (108th overall)
Ravens HB Corey Grant (119th overall)

Third Round

Colts QB C.J. Bethard (65th overall) - Starter Colin Kaepernick started out well but had a horrible second half to become one of the least efficient QBs in the league by the season's end. Relegated to a backup role, Charlie Whitehurst refused to return, leaving the Colts with a gaping hole at the backup spot to an unreliable starter. There have been a string of 2nd-4th round backup QBs that have done well to parlay that into a starting gig over the past few seasons. Bethard might have the best shot out of anyone else in this draft class.

Ravens MLB Denzel Perryman (69th overall) - While the Ravens D did fall a bit last season, this is still the Ravens D. After Rian Wallace retired, the MLB job became up for grabs. Perryman will likely be rated high enough to compete with Chad Carpenter for the opportunity to play alongside two of the ten OLBs in the league rated 90+. That's about as good as it gets in terms in landing spots.

Rams C Mason Cole (91st overall) - As highlighted in that doc I posted just after the first round of the draft, the Rams have an ancient OL. Not only that, but there's virtually no depth. Cole will have no shortage of opportunities as he could conceivable be the backup for all three interior spots, and who knows, maybe he somehow wins the RG job.

Honorable Mentions
Raiders C Billy Price (66th overall)
Lightning CB Jalen Mills (76th overall)

Regret Pick - Bears WR Devin Smith over a better backup elsewhere or a kicker

I don't really have any problems with these third round selections, but I guess if I had to highlight one, it would be the Bears' first selection in the round. WRs cost a lot of money, and the Bears haven't had much of a passing attack since the days of David Carr, Javon Walker, Jerry Porter. Smith could surprise for all I know, but if I were in charge of the Bears, I would have looked to use my final draft pick on a cheap #4 WR. I don't remember what the board looked like here, and I realize they were drafting solely for need, but I guess OLB George Gibson would have fit the bill. A kicker could have also been a target since so many were still on the board, including Jake Elliot. The Bears would have been in a slightly better financial situation had they not taken Smith, and they would have likely seen similar production from a #4 WR whether he was 76 like Smith or 68-70 like the other signed WRs that went in the 6th or 7th round.

Second Round

Cowboys G Danny Isidora (37th overall) - The Cowboys lost two of their starting OL this offseason, but they might have just drafted an immediate replacement for one. Isidora will likely not have as high of a rating as the current expected LG Tre Jackson, but it will likely be close enough to trigger a preseason competition. If he wins out, he could thrive in this high-powered offense.

Seahawks HB Jordan Howard (38th overall) - With long-time backup Rashard Mendenhall having been shipped to the Giants and #3 HB Terrance West owning a 2.5 career YPC, the Seahawks needed a much better backup option for the 32-year-old, oft-injured Lynell Hamilton. Howard is going to get his opportunities. With the Seahawks having one of the better offenses in the league, he could potentially turn those opportunities into being their future bell cow.

Jaguars CB Eli Apple (39th overall) - The Jags secondary and defense in general was a disaster last season, but that could easily be an aberration and not a harbinger of things to come. The Jags have long been defined by their defense, and they still have a bunch of talent there, including 7th overall pick OLB Dante Fowler, whom I am assuming is not like a 72. It isn't the secondary of old, but just two seasons ago, they had a Top 5 pass D. Perhaps a better #2 CB can get them back on track and in the thick of the AFC playoff race.

Honorable Mentions
Express CB Daryl Worley (48th overall)
Cowboys HB Ty Montgomery (61st overall)

Regret Pick - Titans selecting CB Artie Burns over many offensive players

Several days ago, I posted what the first round would have looked like had I been in charge of every team. Talking about the Titans, I mentioned that that they have arguably the league's most anemic offense. In reality, they passed on the first round, and in the second round, they only addressed FB, and I have been pretty vocal about how awful the Madden-generated draft class FBs have been. I could have highlighted either the FB or Burns, but I'm choosing Burns because he was put in a situation he can't conceivably succeed. The only person with even a mere 80 overall in this secondary is Pat Pollard. This secondary was already likely going to be a disaster, so you might as well let it be and improve something you have a much better chance of succeeding.

First Round

Bengals HB Derrick Henry (1st overall) - The Bengals play in the division where Doug Martin has over 6000 yards in five seasons and has rushed for 4.2+ YPC in each season, Mark Ingram has rushed for more yards in each season in a pro up to 1864 last season, and Jamario Thomas has seven straight seasons of 4.1+ YPC and nearing 10000 career rushing yards.

Taken seven picks before Thomas, Bengals incumbent Erik Haw has had an uneven career and despite some good seasonal statlines in his career, he doesn't seem to make anywhere near the impact that his fellow HB rivals have had with their respective teams. While the careers of other #1 overall picks leave a lot to be desired, Henry, by virtue of his position, has a high floor/ceiling which is something this franchise desperately needed.

Ravens G James Daniels (23rd overall) - The Ravens have had great success drafting OL in the first round with starting OTs Eugene Monroe and King Dunlap and C Ryan Kelly. The other, free agent Terron Armstead still has a pleasing 67:7 block:sack ratio. Enter Daniels, who slid much further than he should have, as he possibly slots behind the 36-year-old Toniu Fonoti. Now there's a non-zero chance that the Ravens end up re-signing G Andrus Peat next offseason, and he becomes Fonoti's successor, but my money is on Daniels.

Express QB Jacoby Brissett (25th overall) - The Express entered the offseason having their work cut out for them to reimagine their offense due to the retirements of their starting QB, WRs, and TE. The selection of Brissett was the final touch on a rather unexpectedly quick retool as they try to keep pace in the AFC West and bid for a third straight playoff appearance. Now a lot can go wrong, such as the imports being awkward fits and Brissett fails to win the starting job or struggles as most rookie QBs do, but you have to be impressed with the work they put in, and I'm just making Brissett the face of that.

Honorable Mentions
Seahawks WR Amari Coopers (6th overall)
Rams CB Anthony Brown (27th overall)

Regret Pick - Lions selecting TE George Kittle over OLBs Nick Vigil/Markus Golden, CB Anthony Brown, and really just a lot of people in general

Okay, so we just had a torrid end to the season to sneak into the playoffs. We aren't done rebuilding yet as our team massively overachieved with their talent deficiency and looking at the rest of the division, there's the reigning SB champ, a team that won two games fewer but has worked very hard this offseason to become a winning team and possibly a playoff-bound one, and finally a team that made a deep playoff run the season before that and has lots of high draft picks and cap space. So what are we going to do in response? We could make an attempt to grab someone a true impact, rising star like OLB Tee Ilko or greatly improve and block our fellow division rivals in going after either SS Derek Linde or Jaquiski Tartt. Nah, we have special in store later. We re-signed our own free agents, including our Pro Bowl, Tight End of the Year nominee. We are feeling pretty good as we see four areas that we could target in the draft. We could have our future HB who will likely be thrust into significant action his rookie season. We could get an OLB who has a great chance of being higher rated than Junior Galette and Pete Hill. We could also play a little riskier and go after a CB knowing he would definitely start and could develop if our defense plays in the vicinity that they did last season. We could also just grab an OL as you can never have too many of those, and some of ours are near the end of their careers. Okay, our pick is up and man, there's two OLBs, a CB, and several OL right there! This board couldn't be any more perfect! Yeah, there's a team trying to trade for this pick, but I simply cannot do that. This is going to be the perfect pick and catapult us further up the NFC pecking order. The teams before me will regret not selecting this player. The Detroit Lions select a backup TE.

KCF's Favorite Picks

I'm going to go through each round of the NFL Draft and highlight my three favorite picks and explain why. For the most part, I look in the early rounds for perfect team fits based on historical production, a visible succession plan to starting job (or immediate starter), players who might be the missing piece to the puzzle, and selections that just make me think, "That guy's going to have a long, productive career somewhere." For the later rounds, I look for players who most likely have a chance of sticking around for a long-ish career for a myriad of reasons. While I do know some of the rookie ratings due to user signings, ratings were not a factor in my analysis nor were players dropping further than expected draft slot.

In addition, I will probably list an honorable mention or two and most importantly, a regret pick. What I mean by a regret pick is someone that I believe may have just made a mistake and went in the wrong direction. I will limit myself to just one per round and only for the first three rounds because honestly how much can you really regret in the sixth round?

I will try and limit picks that I made myself, but there will be a few. I will refrain from choosing any Pioneers picks. At the end of all this, I will also mention my three favorite team draft classes.

Signing Draft Picks

Quite a few teams have done it already, but now's the time to get those draftees' signatures and have them suit up for your squad. It is essentially just like signing your own free agents, but you don't have to worry about holdouts/franchise tags, and you typically have far fewer players to sign.

There are a few things you need to keep in mind as you read your PM. One, you will not know the overall ratings until they are signed. That is an in-game mechanic and not something by my design. Two, the desired deals for each player, in terms of length, is based on where they were taken. It is as follows:

Top 5 - Six years
6-10 - Five years
11-32 - Four years
2nd-4th rounds - Three years
5th-7th rounds - One year

Once again, you do not have to offer them their exact deals and can change their length, but I advise you to sign them to the length that they ask for because if you change the length, they might ask for considerably more money.

The deadline to sign your rookies will be October 4th at 10 PM ET. Should you idle, I will sign all your rookies to the deals that they are asking for (such a severe punishment I know). If you have roster space issues, then I will prioritize players who will fill roster holes and then in descending order of when they were selected until your roster is filled.
