Topic | "Study" shows romantic relationships don't bring happiness |
nemu 07/25/20 11:43:01 AM #3 | Kind of a stupid conclusion because the ones who got married obviously derive happiness from marriage while those who didn't obviously don't put as much weight on it. The conclusion is you shouldn't feel pressured to get married out of some weird societal pressure, and you shouldn't deny getting married if you truly desire it. |
Topic | NYPD chief says DAs won't prosecute city's chokehold law |
nemu 07/25/20 10:14:32 AM #13 | I'm confused. Is this supposed to ban a cop from ever using a chokehold, or just ban them from using prolonged chokeholds once they can otherwise safety restrain the perpetrator? The former seems really dumb, but the latter makes perfect sense. |
Topic | Credit reporting agencies are legit scum |
nemu 07/24/20 6:26:29 PM #32 | DarkRoast posted... I do have one. It's been open for a few years. I just rarely use it because frankly I don't need to.You should. Most cards give some benefit, even if it's only a few dollars here and there. They're also generally safer than debit cards, more protection from theft. So long as you're good enough with money to never let a balance ride more than a month outside of a 0% interest period, you're doing yourself a disservice. The only people who shouldn't get them are the compulsive spenders who don't realize that it's not free money. |
Topic | Credit reporting agencies are legit scum |
nemu 07/24/20 6:20:07 PM #27 | The question would be why you never got any credit cards. So long as you avoid the ones with scammy fees, there's literally no reason not to use them outside of knowingly avoiding them because you're horrible with money. |
Topic | FF7Remake Part 1+2 combo on PS5 running at solid 1080/60fps |
nemu 07/24/20 5:57:41 PM #3 | I'd be shocked if Part 2 is out before 2023, more realistically 2025. |
Topic | MAGA kid has over $500 million in settlements and isn't done |
nemu 07/24/20 4:31:52 PM #8 | It's probably nowhere near the amount they were seeking, but I'm sure he's getting a pretty penny regardless. |
Topic | If you could uplift one species on Earth to human like intelligence... |
nemu 07/24/20 3:22:03 PM #41 | If I had to, probably dolphins. Doing it for anything with a population of millions or hundreds of millions or near a billion like dogs would be fucking catastrophic. Dolphins are like a million or less, and they have the entire ocean to work with. |
Topic | Trump says he'll throw out first pitch at New York Yankees game in August |
nemu 07/24/20 9:56:23 AM #18 | And before he takes the mound, he'll exclaim to all in attendance, "Person! Woman! Man!Camera! TV!" And oh, will they clap. |
Topic | Do you agree with what Batman did in The Dark Knight (SPOILERS) |
nemu 07/24/20 9:51:18 AM #16 | Seems fine. I don't want the government to have that power, but I'd be fine with a super-intelligent vigilante who fights city-destroying threats and has contingency plans in place to keep it from falling into the wrong hands having it. |
Topic | Why does Arkham Knight seem to be so disliked? |
nemu 07/24/20 9:40:19 AM #12 | I completed the other three games fully, but only played Knight for like 10 hours and have yet to get back to it. The game just feels off, and the car is such a forced mechanic. |
Topic | 99% of Pokémon's gameplay is bullshit lol |
nemu 07/24/20 8:12:04 AM #20 | The 100 hour grind to breed a perfect team stuff seems like nonsense (I would definitely just insert if I cared about competitive), but most of the other nitpicks are silly. It just means you dislike the games. Streamlining too much leads to the casual EXP share for all nonsense that makes the recent games look like way too much of a cakewalk. |
Topic | Where did the "Angels see humans as monkeys" trope come from? |
nemu 07/24/20 6:53:51 AM #8 | Just the idea that they are independent higher beings with human-like emotions, so they look down on lesser beings. While the literal monkey comparison isnt something I see, arrogant angels that look down on humanity or scorn then for being the Gods chosen seems to be a common trope. |
Topic | People actually get upset when a restaurant gives cops a discount? |
nemu 07/23/20 8:45:00 PM #13 | I don't see why they'd particularly need one, unless it's a all encompassing EMT, firefighter, police, and military discount kind of thing. But anyone who is actually mad at it for existing is an asshole. |
Topic | Would you prefer to date someone who is Hetero/Homosexual or bisexual? |
nemu 07/23/20 5:37:26 PM #11 | I don't think I'd particularly care. I don't really get why there would be any stigmas for it. |
Topic | WTF were they thinking with virtual kindergarten |
nemu 07/23/20 5:34:33 PM #9 | Yeah, I feel like up to 2nd grade they're likely going to have little benefit unless the parents are heavily involved, but most likely won't be able to afford to be involved in the process. |
Topic | Aliens from beyond the moon invade and give you the choice of slavery or death. |
nemu 07/23/20 4:51:04 PM #18 | I'd go with servitude. Seeing as there's no stipulation like mind control, not like I can't kill myself later if it's hell. |
Topic | is it wrong to fake your height to attract women? |
nemu 07/23/20 3:46:02 PM #6 | Unless they're walking in with platform shoes, the most you're going to get is like an inch or two. That's about the limit without looking ridiculous, so I don't know if that would particularly count for "faking" height. |
Topic | How would you define the alt-left? |
nemu 07/23/20 10:21:09 AM #9 | The insane fringe people who think anarchy/communism is an actual viable thing. |
Topic | Why is Hitler most used example when comparing a leader/country to a dictator? |
nemu 07/23/20 10:15:51 AM #6 | I think its mostly his platform. We have several others who have a much greater body count, but that was more intentional neglect than a targeted murder spree. Though in general, all the most evil dictators are pretty much on the same level of evilness for different aspects of their horrible regimes. |
Topic | what does it mean when someone says 'the latter'? |
nemu 07/22/20 9:43:24 PM #4 | Butterfiles posted... *the ladderStepladder |
Topic | no rich dipshit should ever get to say what poor people deserve |
nemu 07/22/20 6:53:43 PM #14 | I don't get why we're so stuck on $15 in the first place. I feel like the conversation would be a lot better if there was at least some middle ground discussion. It also seems like people are working on a faulty premise because barely anyone is working full time on the extreme low end minimum wage in the first place, and there are plenty of states with more reasonable minimum wages. |
Topic | Would you reboot your life? |
nemu 07/22/20 4:18:58 PM #39 | Not at this particular moment, but definitely if I was old and everyone I knew was dead. |
Topic | How do you feel about the usage of the N-word? |
nemu 07/22/20 3:56:06 PM #71 | In legal terms, anyone, though obvious social repercussions should be applied depending on context. In a general sense, if the point is or ever was to "reclaim" the word to turn it into something less offensive, then it needs to be acceptable for anyone to say so long as it's not used in the context of a racial slur. The current climate behind the word is kind of silly, like the discussion on whether people should sing it or just mumble over it if singing along with a rap song. This whole "stop the world the second it is said in any context by a non-black person" thing we have going on is just weird. It should end up being treated as with any other swear rather than this nuke of a word. |
Topic | Do you feel bad for Kanye West? |
nemu 07/22/20 9:27:30 AM #2 | Yeah, being rich as hell means fuck all when you're mentally ill. Unless he's just trolling, he seems majorly fucked up. |
Topic | BREAKING NEWS: Trump advises all Americans to wear a mask! |
nemu 07/21/20 9:18:11 PM #4 | Poop2 posted... literally 4 months lateWhat do you mean? He's been wearing a mask since day one, possibly the first person to ever wear a mask, in fact he was wearing a mask in the womb, don't you know. |
Topic | If Terminator 2 came out today the incels would be pissed about the female lead |
nemu 07/21/20 4:27:45 PM #9 | I guess it depends if you mean literal internet troll incels or "the large amount of people who dislike these bad movies like Ghostbusters 2016." The former hates everything, while the later only hates shit. |
Topic | Ubisoft leadership: "Women don't sell" |
nemu 07/21/20 4:13:29 PM #78 | Though the broad statement is a bit hyperbolic, it's likely true to a certain extent. Something absolutely superb or filled with hype will generally sell well no matter what, but you can probably see certain percentage drops if you look at it from a broad perspective. There are probably some games that would have done better with X-demographic by XX% if the lead was X, Y, or Z. These are companies that likely have focus groups for just judging the marketing appeal of only box art, so they're dealing with way more internal data. |
Topic | The longer I sit at Hooters the weirder and more uncomfortable it is. |
nemu 07/20/20 11:11:54 PM #7 | The guy who tweeted that is as you'd expect. |
Topic | Nintendo could at least give us N64 and GB/GBA Online this year |
nemu 07/20/20 5:44:21 PM #5 | They should have given us a virtual console instead of the current garbage. Wow, a bunch of stellar games I've already played and a bunch of random shit! I feel so blessed to have those for "free" instead of being able to purchase a large chunk of your library to legally play on the go. |
Topic | can someone help me understand how 'mechanical time' is specific to 'whiteness'? |
nemu 07/20/20 4:18:28 PM #33 | DuranOfForcena posted... so is the same argument to be made for the assertion that only whites are taught to value rational thinking? i don't really know, i guess, but if i wasn't white and someone was trying to tell me that my entire race is supposed to not value rational thinking, i would be pretty offended. i don't believe white culture has a monopoly on rational, objective or linear thought and i think it's pretty damn offensive to defend such an assertion.Seems more it would be a country by country value over race, assuming this is something that happens with such variance that it even warrants analysis or discussion. There could certainly be countries where the idea of a "meeting" itself vastly differs from the West or Asia. Trying to tie it to racial lines just seems like racebaiting though. |
Topic | can someone help me understand how 'mechanical time' is specific to 'whiteness'? |
nemu 07/20/20 4:14:03 PM #27 | Looks like it's just someone who got a useless degree trying to insert bizarre racial narratives into shit to try to feel important. |
Topic | Yes/No: Your opinion of a videogame is invalid if you have not played it. |
nemu 07/19/20 11:11:37 PM #10 | Nah, you can make well informed opinions based on past experience and details gained from watching others play. What you can't do is say with absolute confidence a game is absolute trash from three trailers and ten minutes of gameplay. |
Topic | Open world games need to ditch the "alarm outpost system" already |
nemu 07/19/20 8:53:25 PM #9 | It's fine so long as it's not instant base alert in 0.3 seconds, and the game gives you reasonable time to react. |
Topic | Insiders saying Nintendo Direct announcement tonight with direct tomorrow |
nemu 07/19/20 6:44:58 PM #5 | I don't get why they don't do them more often. It's not like they even need to record a host. Just a bunch of trailers and reveals all in once place would be fine. It's good to have it centralized so you can at least look back at the collection of news even if you don't watch it. |
Topic | Black people make up 2% of Maine's population but 25% of its COVID-19 cases |
nemu 07/19/20 11:17:03 AM #4 | Kind of hard to make any judgement without more data, but seems like absolutely nothing to write about if they actually have a 0.2% infection rate as stated above. We're only talking about 900-ish cases being the focus of this article, in which case there are plenty more possible reasons when you're talking about such a small amount of people. |
Topic | A cop in Chicago threatened a reporter for no reason |
nemu 07/19/20 10:41:48 AM #15 | It's entirely possible the cop is being an asshole for no reason, or perhaps the guy cut ten minutes of himself being an antagonistic asshole as well. It's rather hard to judge from only twenty seconds of footage, unless there's more somewhere on Twitter. |
Topic | Is a man less of a man if he is "gay for pay"? |
nemu 07/19/20 10:35:58 AM #16 | I'd say definitely not gay unless the guy enjoys it. Money can make you do plenty of things you'd normally never do. In terms of what makes someone a man, that's too vague to even answer. Despite not really meaning to, I guess I do look down on sex workers somewhat as being a "gross" profession. There certainly is some amount of money that would make me do the same thing, but it's so high that it's completely unrealistic that anyone would ever fathom paying it. |
Topic | Is $10,000 a lot of money to you? |
nemu 07/19/20 10:24:05 AM #15 | I wouldnt see any significant change other than more money in my bank account, but its also not an amount Id casually spend either. |
Topic | Lol... people are calling this white face. |
nemu 07/19/20 10:04:06 AM #18 | SSJKirby posted... People don't understand the concept of punching upThere is no such thing as punching up in racism. If its racist, its racist. Im not sure what this particular case is supposed, but it appears to be a nothingburger. |
Topic | Do oppressed groups just want the power for themselves? |
nemu 07/19/20 8:45:54 AM #6 | No, but its likely easier for the fringe of the groups to be radicalized into having such an opinion. Those are the types of people cults seek out in the first place. |
Topic | Do you think dreams have a purpose? |
nemu 07/18/20 4:25:21 PM #6 | Basically just the brain's version of screensaver. |
