i've had good and bad experiences in retail, but the fact remains that it's low-pay and usually crummy hours. still, in my experience it's all about the people you directly work with. a toxic work environment makes everything about it suck. i've had a few bad experiences with customers (including a man who was much larger than me physically threatening me) but nowhere near on a daily basis

i worked at walmart for 4 years and a dollar store for 2

yes there are women that have deeper voices and men that have higher pitched voices. Doesnt mean a game HAS to give you the option to be exactly that while playing

I don't disagree with the reviewer voicing their opinion on the matter, and I am on board with the notion of more diversity and inclusion in games (in a broad sense, but not "forced", or implemented in such a way where "token" characters are wedged in just to check off some boxes), especially in games where you can create a character.

Where I take umbrage is how heavily the review leaned on this one facet of the game, at the expense of reviewing much else outside of that one issue. As a reviewer, your personal biases and preferences are going to be reflected in your review, but it's important to remember your audience and write for them, not for yourself necessarily.

Would've preferred a more straightforward review, with an accompanying opinion article. But I'm sure Polygon's editor will be happy with the clicks and ad revenue this review generates so

idk, it pretty much sealed the deal for me that i probably won't ever buy the game, so it did its job

i find it really hard to understand people who say they haven't cried in years or whatever. crying is an expression of joy as well as sadness. obviously you don't need to cry over everything but if you never do at all, i can't imagine you can do that without repressing some part of yourself
