How the hell did they hold out so long against Blockbuster? Were these hipster bought locations that finally admitted to being outdated?

Yeah, it's weird, we still had three in town when Blockbuster and Hollywood Video died, and they all chugged along for quite a few years. Then one died. Then another. We lost the last one a few months ago. So the entire chain going down isn't a shock. Can't say I had been in side any time recently, but it was kind of nice to know it was there. >_> I was gonna take my daughter when she was a little older so she could at least have the experience of picking out a physical movie instead of browsing streaming services.

We haven't been back to my wife's hometown in a few years--well, technically her hometown is like a few houses in the middle of nowhere, but the nearest town that had a few stores 20 minutes away--small rural area that didn't have high speed internet yet so the Family Video was still pretty popular because no one could stream without paying crazy amounts for half decent DSL or something. I wonder if some Mom and Pop's will show up in places like that where internet isn't quite there.

December used to drag forever as a kid waiting for Christmas.

However as an adult October through December combined feel like they shoot by in less time than just December felt like as a kid.

My daughter will be three between now and Christmas, and I was just thinking about this the other day. Maaaaan its crazy how December used to drag as a kid. Now it's like "wasn't it just August?" But yeah my wife wanted to put the tree up early but I was against it because having it up for a month for an adult isn't a big deal but for a little kid its like mocking them for 3 years. >_>

But yeah, on topicish, having a kid definitely makes me look forward to Christmas a lot more. Not that I ever reached the point of hating it, but for quite a while it just felt like "Oh hey cool I get some time off of work" and presents are nice but I buy anything I really want and other than my wife its almost all gift cards buying for and receiving from these days. It's nice but its not exciting. There is definitely a certain hollowness now as traditions that lived through my childhood have died out as older relatives died, no longer at the same old location, other relatives not showing up because they've moved off and have other extended family now as well, etc. This year probably just home with the wife and kid, which I do kinda wish my daughter could have similar experiences to me with bigger family, even if not at my grandparents' house with them alive, but this isn't the year for it.

Nah I want Q*Bert.

I could see it being a semi-big reveal since they are doing at the awards thing, though. Maybe Master Chief finally? Not a character or series I'm into but it would be sort of neat.

Yeah, its rare to go anywhere and not see a ton of people either completely maskless or wearing it under their nose. Although I haven't been out much since the "extra special" mask mandate. But *most* stores thus far aren't really enforcing it very hard, and stores that do try just have workers getting yelled at, etc. I'm glad I don't work retail, but my wife does... they are really strict at her store but they always get people outraged that they are enforcing the mandate there. It's inside a mall, I don't know why the mall isn't responsible to make people comply upon entering so individual store owners aren't under attack constantly.

I don't understand this view that Trump is on God's side. From a Biblical viewpoint, Trump is objectively a bad person. All the other "fallen" men he lists repented of their sins and turned their lives around. Trump has never admitted to being wrong in his life. I mean, if you're going to argue this from a religious point of view, at least make sense.

Yeah, they always want to bring up King David, and its like, for one thing, David was horribly grieved by his sin and begged God for forgiveness, and even then it eventually led to a civil war IIRC. I, uh, I'm not sure we want that.

But yes the key is they ALL see the error of their ways and repent in the Bible. Trump is just like "well I never asked forgiveness because I've never done anything wrong."
