On one hand, he's a representation of the jolly good cheer and the potential of giving back in all of us around the holiday season. On the other, he's arguably the single biggest advisement giant in the world who brings false hope to millions of children around the world while selling them Coca-Cola cans face-first. Still, there's something magical about Santa and maybe I've been conditioned to think that but when done right, removed from the commercialism the belief in Santa Claus in young children is one of the great joys of the Christmas season.

While it has become somewhat annoying to hear this pronounced as everyone's favorite Christmas movie year in and year out because of its alternative content matter, there's no denying it's a very good movie and actually a pretty charming Christmas watch. Setting an action movie at Christmas is more than just a novelty or accident, Gruber's act of terrorism is a deliberate violation of and in staunch contrast to the positivity of the season, and a commentary on time seeming frozen on Christmas Day, when it feels like "nothing" is supposed to happen besides intimate moments between you and your family.

God, this song is genuinely amazing. I'm an unabashed supporter of Christmas music and love playing it to death around December, and this scratches the itch of so many aspects of great holiday classics: nostalgia, catchy chorus lines, tasty instrumentals including a choice solo, and of course an overwhelming sense of kitsch. I'm adding this to the rotation immediately.

Jack Skellington is as perfect as a holiday character can get. Jack Skellington represents that transitive period between Halloween and Christmas, and through the celebration of tradition and holiday discovers who he truly is. As much as Christmas is often associated with joy and happiness, there's also that reflective, melancholic side to the holiday where we are given time to assess and determine exactly what self we want to show out in the world. Conversely, Jack can also represent the effect of "Christmas creep", in which Christmas and its associated aesthetics slowly encroach the months that precede it. Here, we see Jack, this stalwart of Halloween and horror, become enchanted by Christmas' intoxicating spirits, helpless but to succumb to its ever-marching onslaught of gifts and cheer. Jack may lose himself to the holiday, but still puts his own personality into it with twisted gifts and horrific scares under the tree Christmas morning. In this way, Christmas creep is directly opposed and negatively portrayed, and makes a strong case for holidays to be given their own time, their own chance to breathe and thrive on their own. Jack might not be the traditional example of hero, but in a way he represents the potential to do good around Christmas time even if things don't always turn out the way you planned.

I'm sure there are people who enjoy eating these, but beyond the aesthetic value towards Christmas, they really are not good to me. They're sticky, get repetitive after only a few licks, and then you're stuck with this awkward meat hook of a snack for God knows how long.

Yes, I used to be in a chess club and played every day for a few years. I was rated around the 1700s but I haven't played consistently in a while now, so I'm definitely not as good as I used to be anymore. I had someone accuse me of being a cheater which left a really sour taste in my mouth that completely turned me off of the game. Still think the game is fun casually though.

I loved it overall, but I feel like the story's pacing and writing could've been done better. I actually would've loved it we had alternated between Abby and Ellie instead of going through all 3 days individually, it would've kept momentum up insanely well instead of having the wind taken out of our sails instantly. It also would've shown the consequences of our action in a more ready and apparent way. As it stands though, it's still incredible and I like the ambiguity and sense of raw emotion the game provides you by having the two perspectives, not every game needs to have choice and the fact I felt so unwilling to stab Abby at the end is such a testament to gaming's ability to provide powerful storytelling.

Taking out story, the game is tense as hell, the battle against the Rat King is one of the scariest gaming moments of the decade. The game has an incredible survival horror template it works off of and its balance of items and resource management are both satisfying and rewarding to grasp and makes each encounter memorable and different each time. Its stealth felt very MGS3-like as well (probably due to all the crawling!)

Well one I've mentioned a few times is Nightmare on Elm Street 2, though I definitely get why it wasn't included. For those unaware, it has several subtle homoerotic themes and actually lead actor Mark Patton was a closeted gay at the time and the film negatively affected his mental health because of it. There was a doc about Patton's experiences called Scream, Queen! My Nightmare on Elm Street released last year.

I was surprised at Black Swan being here, I even planned for that to be in 2010s horror before this but I still enjoyed its inclusion. It was nice to see a doc on here again like sports, lists should do that more (I might included the sleep paralysis doc The Nightmare for example in 2010s horror)

Anyway super fun project with a ton of great movies, I feel like i learned a lot too over the course of it.
