Ken Jennings reads most of the audiobook too (Trebek reads a handful of chapters). I think he just respects Jeopardy the way Alex did it and wants to keep it familiar, at least at the beginning.

Although Trebek himself said he thinks Jeopardy can succeed regardless of who hosts it because he deliberately tried not to make the host the center of the show.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I finished the Alex Trebek autobiography yesterday. It was pretty good. It wasn't a thorough retelling of his life. It was basically him sharing snippets from his life and what he learned from those moments, which is honestly what you'd expect from an Alex Trebek autobiography. If you're a Jeopardy fan, it's worth reading for a lot of the cool details and behind the scenes stories.

Let's see how it goes in this edition of Cold Steel IV!

Well, we're definitely doing Emma this time around, so let's start with her. She's been looking at a spell book called "Tales of Isthmia," releasing on PS5 in Fall 2021. She says there may be a way to separate the curse from Rean's soul, but she'll have to go directly into his mind with her astral (read: naked) self. Emma says this may be dangerous for Rean, but she won't face any real danger. Naturally, it's the other way around because she knows Rean will gladly sacrifice himself but won't let anyone sacrifice themselves for him. But once he realizes this, Rean pulls Emma out of his mind through sheer force of will, which is a top tier Rean moment. Turns out this Tales of Isthmia is a forbidden black magic book, as Roselia and Celine explain when they show up shortly after Emma runs off.

Wandering around the ship, I learn I can challenge Ash at Pom Party. It takes an annoyingly long time to finally beat him, but it does max out my bond level with him, so I guess it balances out. There's a great scene between Crow and Machias, where Rean nails the dismount with, "I'm glad I got to see that." Agate, Duvalie, and Laura talk about Loewe for a bit, which is cool.

Next up is Juna. Rean takes her down to Milsante for some intel gathering to see what the effects of their Leeves incursion has been on the surrounding area. Then they decide to head out onto Lake Gala in an orbal boat. During this scene, we get a super slo-mo literally heart-pounding moment where Juna ponders the implications of her budding feelings for Rean. Juna's reaction when Rean snaps her out of it is great. "YES. HI. Present." Then Gallie randomly makes an appearance and Rean speeds away on the boat since it doesn't actually seem that interested in us. It kinda looked like a cryptid, so I'm sure that's not the last we've seen of it. Actually, it seems like I could probably fight it now based on how that played out. And with that, Juna gets her second heart and her bond level is maxed out.

Hmm...That's two bond scenes and no new profile updates. Hopefully I don't box myself out here! Anyway, I'm going to tackle the sidequests and new scenes on the surface first before I decide how to do the remaining bond scenes. First up, we head to Eryn Village. Wandering around first, Roselia believes that Osborne is trying to time up the Rivalries to coincide with the start of conflict with Calvard, which is interesting. The sidequest here is to fix the hot springs. Juna says she doesn't know how to describe it, but something feels off. Well, I think I can describe it. The water is purple. We have to drive stakes into singularities, just like in Act 1. One is in the Osgiliath Basin, one is near Milsante, and one is on Bryonia Island.

I decide to go to Bryonia Island first, and Beryl is also here. Finding the purple springs isn't too tough. I travel around to all the locales with new stuff on my way to Alster and the Osgiliath Basin. The one here is near the entrance, so it's easy to find. The last one is off the beaten path near Avon Hills. I did enjoy Rean offering his expert hot springs commentary at every spot we went. We don't get to see Rean being goofy like this very often, so it was a nice change of pace. Apparently, we can now use these other springs freely whenever we're in the area, although they're kinda out of the way!

More later.

Wait, Act 2 isn't over yet?! Augh, I'm never going to beat this game!

We start off with some narration that everyone got away before the IDF could catch them, so that's nice. The calendar doesn't label this as a free day, so I imagine this is just going to be a plot heavy segment. With Elise joining our ranks, Agate decides it's time to take off so he can get in touch with Estelle and Joshua. Randy and Tio likewise need to get in touch with Lloyd and Elie. Juna suggests we chauffeur them over that way in the Merkabah. Plus, none of them can exactly move around freely at the moment, which leads to the next order of business: What do we do now and where do we go? Musse feels like this may have been the moment she's been waiting for.

And right on cue, Rosine chimes in saying there's a transmission for Musse. She thinks that whoever this person is will settle all of our lingering questions of what to do next. Our mystery guest is, naturally, Aurelia. She's inviting all of them (and I mean all of them, both Class VIIs, the Liberl crew, and the Crossbell crew) to attend a meeting with her and presumably Vita, too. Aurelia calls it the reunion to end all reunions, so it may include more people beyond that, too. Musse continues to be evasive and vague, but Rean suspects this is the unveiling of Operation Mille Mirage. Crow asks the pertinent question: Where's the meeting place? Aurelia doesn't answer, but Alisa clearly has someplace in mind. Once we accept, Musse reveals that it's in the neutral airspace where the borders of Erebonia, Calvard, and Liberl all meet.

Turns out we do get some free time, and now Juna and Kurt will be tagging along for this part. After some randomizing, we round out the crew with Emma, Tita, Tio, and Duvalie, which is a solid combo. Looks like our bonding options are romantic ones with Juna, Musse, Emma, and Elise, as well as normal ones with Jusis and Elliot, who seems like a natural odd one out (unless it adds something to his profile, of course). It doesn't say any of the sidequests are actually required this time around, and indeed, the game tells me that I can head straight to our destination at any time by talking to Gaius.

But that's all for tonight.

With all that done, I've gotta continue Cold Steel IV Act 2!

Oh man, it's this dungeon music again, heck yeah. This dungeon has some unique traps like an EP-draining field or advanced techniques like turning off the lights. Thankfully, they're not too difficult to disable or work around, but all the party members complain about how tough it is. I mean, I guess I get it because it would be really difficult in real life to fight in the dark! This is the first dungeon in CS4 that really felt like a dungeon, and it was kinda fun, too.

When we finally reach the end, Major Michael is surprised we didn't die, so Rean and company lecture him on how nothing is impossible for them when they're together, especially compared to what they've already been through. Now we have to fight the Class I guys and Major Michael. I was kinda hoping Schmidt would fight us, too, just to see what he would be capable of doing, but alas! For Class I, it's an opportunity to put their newfound resolve to the test. They can't blindly follow along anymore as Cedric and Thors both change right out from under them.

The game says that the AP requirement is to finish the fight within the time limit, but it fails to mention what the time limit actually is! With that in mind, I just unload everyone's S-Crafts consecutively, which wastes the Class I guys in short order, but Michael is a bit tougher, especially once he buffs up. He still proves to be no match in the end, and my AP goes up by 3 after 46 turns, so I guess the limit was 50 turns (unless it can go higher than 3).

After the fight, the Class I guys feel pretty discouraged, but Class VII lies to them and says it was a close call there for a bit. Kurt says this isn't about winning or losing, or even about being right or wrong. They were just trying to help each other. Rean thinks back to his own Class I vs. Class VII duels in Cold Steel I and II, and is encouraged that the spirit of Thors will live on in his students. Then Elise does a slow motion run and I realize yet again that the most overtly romantic moments in this subseries are between Rean and Elise, bah. Even Schmidt is in a sentimental mood and tells Tita she's passed the test to officially become his disciple, albeit barely. In his inner monologue, he talks about another project being nearly complete. He calls it the Capstone Project, but he doesn't go into detail about what it is or who commissioned him to do it.

Then we're treated to a scene of the main campus and branch campus students and staff all interacting together at the school, as well as Alfin and Elise's reunion. Apparently, those students who still want to follow the IDF to the front will load up on the train and head out that way. Major Michael (who is temporarily on leave from the RMP) and Schmidt join a number of students, while many of them stay behind.

And with that, Act 2 Chapter 2 is complete with another S rank aw yeah.

Apparently rumors are teams are worried about the success of the Reid coaching tree, despite the fact that two people from that tree (Pederson and Harbaugh) have won Super Bowls and another (Rivera) has made it to a Super Bowl.
