As a high profile actor who's been operating as a woman in Hollywood for ages, it's a bit difficult to fully shift my mind to this new identity. I've seen them as Kitty Pryde, I've seen them as a female sidekick in Super. It's a shock, as someone who likes this actor's work and who's accepted them as a lesbian for so many years.

But ultimately, this is a journey that they've elected to take. After living as a lesbian for so many years, the prospect of living as a man has come to fruition. Coming out as gay in Hollywood was a big step, and it invited celebration and criticism. To now come out as transgender invites the same sort of attention, only more fervent now.

This isn't a process you put yourself through for attention, because for every expression of support you get, you get just as many people calling you mentally ill, attention seeking, a bad-faith actor for the "woke agenda" - even a traitor to your community. To come out as transgender must have taken a lot of time and courage to build up to.

I don't know what Elliot Page is going to do after his transition, but I support his decision. This is his choice to make, and while I need a period of time to adjust, I understand that this is a quality of life improvement for him and I wholeheartedly support his transition.

I'll add onto my last point and say that while I can appreciate what TLJ was trying to go for, I just didn't like the material. I didn't mind Canto Bight, and I don't mind the idea of Finn and Rose's quest, but the massive CGI chase scene near the end felt like Disney padding out the movie with massive piles of fuck-you money. A lot of the movie's humor felt kinda forced, and by the time they stopped going for the big yuks, I was kinda sick of the movie. Rose Tico felt underwritten, and I feel bad for Kelly Marie Tran for the abuse she had to put up with due to her involvement with the movie.

There are deleted scenes with more emotional depth and grit, like an alternate take of Phasma's big fight and Finn's "rebel scum" line. I will say that the cocky delivery in the final movie was one of the moments where I really smiled, but ultimately I think that grit is what I was missing from Finn and Rose's quest. Scenes like Finn waking up from his coma - after taking a lightsaber to the back to save Rey from Kylo Ren - and trying to escape from the rebels and getting shocked for it really undervalued his character imo, like he was taking a few too many pratfalls and becoming the butt of the joke.

I think that's why Finn, Rose and Canto Bight are considered to be the weaker parts of the movie. With a bit more grit, with the characters being a bit more down and out, I think their plotline would have gone over a little better and helped to balance out the movie. I feel bad for John Boyega and Kelly Marie Tran, because I think the material of the pair that was used in TLJ wasn't always the best material they delivered. I think they were done in by the material, which carries into TRoS where Finn spends a bunch of the movie yelling Rey's name and Rose is a glorified background character.

I've seen half of season 1. I picked it up on a lark the same day I grabbed the last season of The Good Place, so I'd have something to watch after it ended.

I'm having a hard time sitting through it by myself, because I'm laughing loud enough by myself to make me feel self-conscious. This would be the perfect show to watch alongside someone else and play off of them, but none of my friends want to watch it.

TRoS is the worst movie in the sequel trilogy, but that's because TLJ threw a massive spanner in the works. It gave a bunch of non-answers to TFA's main narrative hooks, and TRoS ended up being 2 movies worth of plot points and macguffins shoved into the skin of one movie to account for that. So despite being the worst movie of the sequel trilogy, I think TLJ was the worst sequel trilogy movie - if you catch my drift.

Honestly, they were better off making a third bridging movie that smoothed over the biggest bumps left by TLJ, and ending on Star Wars X. Because Star Wars X is an awesome name, and making a fourth movie would have been a lot better than the fuckin Frankenmovie we got in the end.

The Last Jedi had good points - I especially liked Luke Skywalker, to the point where his jokes were the ones that fit the movie the most. I think they killed him off one movie early, but the way they killed him off was graceful and arguably perfect - if it was presented in the right context. I even think it's a better movie than TRoS. But I think it's the worst sequel trilogy movie, because it's the movie that fucked the whole thing up, and I think it's the reason TRoS ended up the way it did in the first place. That's my take.

I kind of agree. Sometimes I like a nice, brief, replayable game like A Robot Named Fight, and I like shorter RPGs from time to time to scratch that itch without having to commit to something massive.

But then you have games like Persona 5, which is an 80 hour game, and it's a masterpiece. So as much as I do like brief, replayable games, or even longer low-commitment games like Super Mario Sunshine/Galaxy, there are some monoliths of gaming that are worth committing to.

Game length shouldn't be treated as a measure of quality, which it has been used as in the past. The amount of content a game has doesn't matter if you get sick of it eventually. I agree with you on that. As I've gotten older, I've become more mindful of the commitment that you have to give longer video games - so I empathise with your point. But some of those longer video games, given that they accommodate your temperament, habits and mood, are worth committing to.

I remember a while ago, I got this idea that the way to true balance was to talk about both sides equally. So when I would discuss some stupid scummy thing the right had done, I'd chase it up with "the left has issues too, like this and this, but it's particularly disheartening to..." or whatever. As I criticised right wing bullshit, I would make room to assert that the left has issues too, even if the issues I brought up were petty squabbling compared to a right-wing business owner justifying his use of slurs or whatever.

What I realised in the end is that it's all about the time and place. I don't need to appease some jackass who thinks I'm being unfair to the right-wing. When something about the left comes up that I'm not a fan of, I'll talk about it. Of course, if it's some stupid bullshit that right-wingers do as well, but even more blatantly and ferverously when they do it, I'll talk about the bullshit double standard that's going on.

All that "both sides" does is trip people up. If you have to stop in the middle of a point to go "well the left can be a bit unfriendly unfortunately, not to the degree that they're mailing white supremacist literature to minorities who live in their neighbourhoods, but I'd be lying if I said the left didn't have a history of excluding others" - now there's room to drag the left down to the standards set by the right, despite the topic being about right-wingers mailing white supremacists rhetoric to minorities.

Like, those issues still exist, and they're worth discussing. But you don't have to balance out some right-winger bullshit by going "the left has issues similar to that" if those issues don't relate to the story at hand. All it does is take the focus off of "conservative intimidates minority with racist literature" and water the topic down into "many different walks of life exclude others" when that's not the point of the topic. The point is to talk about this redneck piece of shit sending white supremacist literature to minorities.

I would like it if there was a space to talk about how different political ideologies affect each other, how there might be reasonable conservative points in regards to finance or whatever the fuck as well as discussing humanitarianism on both sides of the political compass - but I don't have high hopes of that happening, because when you see someone going "that's not fair, you only talked about how one side is bad when both sides have issues with this subject", it's some right-wing dipshit trying to lessen the impact of some right-wing controversy. I can't take that suggestion in good faith after seeing the sort of people using it, as well as seeing the way they use it.

I'd like to believe that discussing how both sides relate to a certain issue is a suggestion made in good faith, but I can't reasonably do that after what happened in Charlottesville in 2017. Where in the face of a right wing who marched alongside Swastika flags and chanted neo-Nazi rallying cries, and a left side who chose to counter-protest this and had a car driven into them in retaliation, the president of the United States said that both sides had bad faith actors at that event and both deserved equal scrutiny for what happened. The stink of that statement will never come out of the "both sides" argument, and that mindset has poisoned political discourse for decades to come.

The Last of Us 2 is overhated, but it's a game you've really got to commit to and it might be better for when there are no other games coming out for months.

Mortal Kombat 11, outside of the story DLC which I hate, is the cheesiest fun ever. It's overshadowed by X's brutality, but I fucking loved its stupid time travel plot and I love how eye-searingly bright and garish it is.

Don't sleep on The Last of Us 2 necessarily, but the more people playing MK11, the better. Like fuck, it redeemed Kotal Khan and gave him a character instead of having him be a boring piece of shit like in X. If you liked Mortal Kombat 9, I think you're gonna love MK11.

I was working at a cinema when the movie reboot came out. I feel like I would enjoy the show with all the crazy martial arts and stuff, but god this movie was a slog. Bryan Cranston plays a big ugly CGI head. The Red Ranger is a dumbass who's on probation for drink driving. The action sucks, except for like five minutes near the end.

The only consolation is that the Yellow Ranger was cool.

Honestly? I don't know where the issue stems from. The article mentions a "warrior culture", which would do it.

The military did have a scandal about 6 years ago where soldiers shared racist memes and posted photos and videos of women having sex with them. It was called the "Jedi council", and nearly 200 military members were reprimanded over it:

Honestly, I think this is the standard we've set as a whole. Any Western country that took part in Afghanistan or Iraq post-9/11 has committed countless atrocities that will never go before a judge. Standards and international laws are being subverted because it's "us vs them" - they're the terrorists, who cares what happens to them? Something like that.

I'm not at all qualified to comment on this, these are just my random thoughts. I don't think the entitlement and toxic culture that led to these war crimes is exclusive to Australia though, I think it's a more widespread issue with American and Australian soldiers at the very least. But that's conjecture.

I have a friend of mine who served in Afghanistan post-9/11, I've been meaning to call her up and see how she's going. I also play poker with a friend of mine who's in the Air Force, he does flight control somewhere in Victoria and he went through all the military training and stuff. They're more knowledgeable about the military than I am, so they would be able to shine a light on this better than I would.

There were less moving parts to consider on the PS2 than on later consoles. The amount of work that went into GTA5, and which is presumably going into GTA6, is magnitudes ahead of what the PS2 was even capable of.

Also, there were side studios who made handheld GTA games for the PSP, and they got ported to PS2 - so technically there's 5 GTA games on PS2. Vice City Stories is particularly good for its time.

I understand that people are sick of GTA5, but the amount of time, money and effort that went into making it is insane. Like GTA3 would have cost a lot to develop, for sure - but I don't think it cost $265 million dollars to make, and I don't think it had a staff of over 1,000 to develop it. I can see why it's held on for this long.

I love Cyndaquil, but Totodile is the best evolutionary line of the Johto games design-wise. Croconaw looks like a shitty caveman, but Feraligatr is fucking badass.

Quilava's nice, but Typhlosion is a weak design - especially compared to a fucking dragon from last gen. It's just a weird mole character with a bit of fire coming out of its neck, it's lost all of Cyndaquil's charm. And while I like Chikorita and Bayleef, Meganium is just a smooth dinosaur with a flower mane.

Feraligatr is nasty and gnarly, and it's on brand. Meganium is at least on brand. Typhlosion just kinda sucks design-wise.

Simply being "a shit person" doesn't qualify as gendered. TERFs are a pretty recent phenomenon all things considered.

I feel like gatekeeping and bigotry in the vein of what TERFs are all about has always existed though, even in more progressive circles. Transphobic sentiment has proliferated in the queer community despite trans people being one of the four main letters in the LGBT acronym, with movements to take the acronym back to GL. There are people who would participate in Pride, then turn around and use the t-slur. Biphobia has been a thing for decades as well, and discourse about ace people really picked up in the 2010's.

In my opinion, TERFs are a recent phenomenon for the same reason that the alt right is a recent phenomenon. People who behave like that have always existed, but the networking capabilities of social media have allowed them to legitimise their shitty views under a banner and proliferate them to anyone who might be sympathetic to their rhetoric. The term TERF is new, but the type of person it represents isn't.

It's like how pedophiles rebranded as MAPs. They hitched themselves to identity politics to try and gain mainstream legitimacy.

The most lines I've cleared is 143. I'm playing with an Xbox gamepad with a busted d-pad - the up button is finicky as fuck.

I'll get a bit too sluggish for a hot second, and two or three tetranominos will stack up in the middle of the screen. It's fucked up. I'm not a Tetris pro, but I would say that I'm pretty good - I can't even make it halfway through the Master challenge. It really shows you where you stand.

This reminds me of when people began analysing The Matrix through the lens of it being an allegory for gender transition. Which was an interesting viewpoint to consider, considering that its two directors are trans women who hadn't transitioned at the time.

This is a statement put out by the character designer who began to see elements of their transness reflected in the character they designed. Whether you agree with that or not, it counts for more than some shitty "Dumbledore is gay" headline that ultimately doesn't affect the property at hand. Take it or leave it, but at the very least, I think Madeline being trans is a viewpoint that's worth considering when you take her creator's experiences into account.

like, my understanding of toxic masculinity is strictly defined gender traits. "Men drink beer, not cocktails", "real men play sports", "men don't cry". There is a list of things that men do, and that men specifically don't do - and if you don't fit that mold, you're othered as gay or soft. By not fitting the masculine standard, you're branded as an outsider and your social standing lowers.

And then you have societal standards from decades past that basically amount to "a proud, self-assured man doesn't take no for an answer", where the masculine ideal is perverted in favour of entitlement. That's toxic masculinity - exclusion, emotional suppression and entitlement.

The feminine equivalent to that is being a TERF. Like yeah, women have had a rough go of it and there are bullshit societal standards that need to be challenged - the core of feminism is fine. But TERFs take it to a level where they're actively policing who is and isn't female. Their rhetoric has become so brazen and fearful that TERF shit has begun to affect AFAB people who don't meet a certain standard of femininity.

Earlier this year, there was an altercation where a woman was evicted from a public toilet despite A) being born a woman and B) identifying as a woman. But she looked mannish, and some dumb fuck got so uncomfortable that another woman was so far removed from their idea of femininity that they called security and got her evicted from the public toilet.

On top of their crazy identity policing, they accuse other women of having "internalized misogyny" for not believing in their ideals. To be considered valid, you have to agree with and champion a specific, radical strain of feminism that caters to a specific strain of feminists while excluding others. Champion what they champion, and hate what they hate. Stray from the path, and your validity under their beliefs is revoked - your womanhood is considered void.

They'll use the core message of feminism to fight for rights that benefit their preferred mold of femininity, while restricting and policing others that they disagree with. They exclude, they suppress issues and emotions that don't align with their worldview, and they abuse a progressive cause to gain validity for themselves while keeping the undesirable riff-raff down. TERFdom, IMO, is the mirror image of toxic masculinity.
