How is the game play? Is it similar to the something like Detroit: Become Human?

Most gameplay is straight visual novel. Go to location. Poke a scene. Speak to a character and go through a dialogue tree.

The "gameplay" gameplay is when you dive into someone's dream and sort out the puzzles inside. My only real complaint about the game is that some of the things you do in the dreams seem arbitrary. Like you're experimenting to see what works and if it doesn't, you're just hitting the rewind and trying the other thing.

I realize me just describing that doesn't make the game sound very appealing, but believe me when I say that the real strength of this game is in its writing and characters.

Also Corina Boettger gave everything in her performance as Mizuki. I would hazard to say I put her next to Melissa Hutchison as Clementine for her performance of a child character.

Wait for a compilation on Dokapon. It is GIGANTIC and there's a lot of time spent on hemming and hawing, but there are some godlike moments in it.

As for KOTOR... if you've never played before, or particularly if you've never played Restored Content before, I'd say it's worth it. If you're familiar with all that and just want to hear Woolie react to things that happen, that's there, but I lost count of the amount of times Woolie stopped everything mid-conversation so he and LittleV could talk for ten minutes or more about concepts that the game is either presenting or will present in the future and all you can say to yourself is "THIS WILL BE EXPLAINED LATER PLEASE LET'S KEEP MOVING".

Sure, to a degree, but people who dont have time to keep up with politics can often easily be swayed by the bits of news that they do get to see and regardless of how much blame lies on their shoulders Id rather we have the publics support than not.

The question would be how does one in fact reach those people?

Or... is it worth reaching those people? Would we have to compromise something to reach those people? Pride, certainly, but principles as well?

I feel at some point we have to say "let's focus on doing good, rather than convincing the most opposed among us that it's a good thing".

Sorry if I havent made it clear, this one person making a decision isnt really the best example. I think his hearts in the right place and everything. Im using the story as a jumping off point to speak on the general trend of corporate media and the establishment making these performative gestures. To me its not much different from McDonalds putting up the pride flag on their logo as if their capitalism hasnt destroyed countless lives.

I'd like to think these kind of personal decisions are in fact an example of something that stands out from performative gestures from corporations. Like Henry is in fact putting his money where is mouth is on this.

And honestly, I don't have too much to say to people who want to talk about something else or something bigger. That's fine. My beef is with people who say these specific kinds of actions are "a bad thing" because of their nostalgia clinging to what they're familiar with, or making those bad faith "slippery slope" arguments.

I don't get how you see this is a result of "the establishment's distraction" when it's literally a single person making a decision about their own role.

You do realize that these are basketball players voicing themselves, right? Basketball players who are not actors?

Heck, you can look at 2k16 Livin Da Dream for examples of great black actors. Livin Da Dream is a mess of a story, but I have nothing bad to say about the performances of the actors.

"Can" and "should" are different statements. Henry is speaking for himself as someone who played a black character for twenty years while being white, and those are his beliefs.

The reason for this is the relatively small number of non-white roles in voice acting. As long as those numbers remain as they are, Henry doesn't feel right being a white man taking the role of a black man when that role could have gone to a black person.

The bad faith is coming from "well guess black people can't play white people now IT'S ONLY FAAAAIR".

The better answer, of course, would be for animation to write casts that are more multiracial so those roles exist on a greater scale.

I watched the AA anime for a while and honestly... its worst crime is that it's pretty boring. Animation is simple and largely lackluster.

It's one of those "this didn't need to exist" things when the games exist and in a very accessible format.

Like you can look up a "funny moments from" video and get all you'll ever need out of it in about fifteen minutes.

I mean if the anime strawman answer is to hire more Asian actors, then I'm all for it. That's fine.

Particularly in the case where the origin of the character is culturally significant.

Anime just doesn't always follow those rules strictly. Most isekai and other fantasy, for example.

Then consider the idea of "mukokuseki" and the fact that in many anime, the characters aren't portrayed as being "ethnically Japanese", but as light-skinned, multi-hair-colored "anime" people. Sure they have Japanese names and live in Japan, but that's often ancillary to the plot.

Unless in cases where it isn't, in which case, like I said, by all means hire Asian actors.

I think what people need to remember about this is that these are thus far individuals making this decision. It's not like there's a law being passed and there's no corporate pressure. Yes, you can call it peer pressure among actors if you want, but would you not think that's on the acting community to sort out? In the end, what's your stake in this?
