Given that the beach is public property, it's again not reasonable for anyone to block access to it, which is why I say I would have expected an easement to exist prior to his purchase in 2008. Then since it's nonrevokable, that would make what he's doing illegal. But I don't have any proof that there's an easement. It's just that it wouldn't make sense for there to not be.

I mean, it makes sense to me. In California access to the public beach is a constitutional issue and the previous owners of the property just never caused problems. It's not quite the same thing as trying to develop residential property on a street, you know?

Depends on the area of public policy you're talking about I would think.

So give me an example of how a politicians work requires them to be knowledgeable about public policy if you can't give an answer in more general terms?

I'm just not quite sure what it is you're thinking as a process here. IMO you're acting like the politician as a person is kind of blackbox and politics as a job goes in one end and then policy knowledge comes out the other.

also, let's say that you do think farmers should be trusted to know about public policies that impact farming or veterinarians to understand public policies that impact their practices

1) do you actually carry that logic to its conclusion? e.g., you listen to teachers when they talk about education? most people will be selective in answering this question and there will be at least some groups they wouldn't trust, because of things like conflicts of interest

2) that still means each politician has a very narrow range of expertise

And for every celebrity who has a passion for something, there's someone whose job it is is to (in theory) know as much as possible about it to make informed decisions about it that effect everyone.

They are pretty knowledgeable about the tasks they need to complete to get re-elected in their districts, generally.

Politicians are certainly stupid

But the average celebrity combines that stupidity with an insane amount of money, giving them a lethal combination of impostor syndrome and cognitive dissonance. The justification to help ease the impostor syndrome comes in the form of "I must be smart and my opinions must be valuable" therefore I will use my platform I gained by pretending to be someone else, and I'll just be myself.

They all need to go study an actual problem and really (like, really actually) learn about it and its nuances instead of reading a wiki article like most people do for whatever hot button issue is in the public discourse. All it really takes is seeing the nuance of one item to realize you don't know shit about anything (no one does) and the world is far to complicated to be giving "hot takes" on anything really.

it's not even about stupidity per se, most politicians had careers outside public policy. For example, there are many farmers in my state legislature. Why should I think a bunch of farmers know more than a bunch of actors?
