Still no explanation on how the icicle didn't kill. I like that Selphie is getting some more dialogue and time in the spotlight with the missile strike targeting the Garden she transferred from. It's nice considering she hasn't done much in the game so far. Aside from some of the unexplained plot points, my biggest gripe with the game so far is the main cast. I've spent around 10 hours or so with these characters and I can't say that I'm very fond of any of them. I like Laguna's squad at least. Everything else is going well enough so far. The music is very good. I think the Junction system works but could have been better explained. Dialogue can be a little strange at times. Not a fan of consumable magic but I've never liked that along with level scaling. Final Fantasy VIII would benefit more from the remake treatment just as much as VII. So far, I like the game but I see some of the flaws. What will make or break this is if the characters become better and if the story doesn't implode on itself. I'm a little worried that it's Disc 2 and there still hasn't been any buildup to Squall and Rinoa being a thing. I hope it doesn't come out of nowhere later on. Keith_Valentine posted... Supposedly, the original plan was to split the story pretty much half and half between the two parties but they ended up having to cut a lot of it. Quistis going back to apologize to Rinoa felt like a dumb move on her part. Zell and Selphie following her didn't make sense, either. Rinoa didn't even deserve an apology for her poorly thought out plan. "Let's ask the sorceress to wear this power dampening bracelet!". Rinoa keeps saying this isn't a game to her but she acts like it is. Quistis was in the right for telling her off. If she truly felt bad about it, apologize after the operation is complete. Then, Rinoa messes up(big surprise) and Squall has to go save her. I would have let her be eaten. Maybe now, she'll grow up and takes things seriously. Speaking of taking things seriously, what happened with Irvine? This mane keeps talking about how snipers are lonely by nature and how a single shot means everything. Suddenly, get gets cold feet when the moment arrives and goes "I c-can't do it. I always crack when this happens." Huh? Then why was this clown selected then? Glad he got his composure together but good grief. He's unreliable. I like how Seifer is just a guard dog now. Suits him well. Not like I can blame him. Edea is gorgeous. I'd be her guard dog, too. Also, maybe I misinterpreted this but it felt strange how Edea went up to the podium and insulted all the people. When President Deling questioned her, she straight up murdered him. Nobody reacted to that? There were riots in the streets but that came after the sniper shot. Nobody seemed to react to the giant lizard creatures sprinting across the road and into the building, either. I know Squall is going to survive the icicle impalement. Only question is how unless some really good magic saved him. --- |

Same goes for Selphie's Laguna's Page after each Timber Maniacs Magazine you find. I think there's a bug though where, for whatever reason, the update doesn't happen for one of them. I'll keep both of that in mind. I hope the plot of the game doesn't become nonsense that involves time travel or alternate dimensions. More often than not, it feels poorly written when a plot enters that territory. If Squall is going to fall in love with Rinoa, it better be a nice buildup and not come out of nowhere. So far, this plot feels like a slow moving anime. The landing at Dollet was fine. Zaltera posted... Refinement from cards and other items is the way to go. Refinement seems like the way to go. Constantly drawing with each character was starting to get rough.
