Not to be insensitive, but well, that'd be something. Local towns seem to have been carrying out protests and of course there's the mixed behavior that comes with it (some of which I don't agree with). I see it potent enough to impede on my travel if no solid resolution comes with the overall situation and this prolongs+escalates.

I have a lawyer handling the ticket. That thing isn't the end of the world. Just want it demoted to a traffic school assignment at least. There were plausible technical grounds, but that officer was blatantly camping for a quota.

Wonder how he feels doing that next time knowing people are becoming more comfortable with confrontation. (not suggesting that'd be by me, I've got other things to prioritize. I just don't like him)

It's becoming a sad case of deteriorating sanity and I'm not trying to echo that excuse for white serial killers and stuff.

Politics and morals get blurred at ground zero and now the only mode of thought is survival. Who knows if these were good or bad cops to start, but at this point they're compelled to react like this. Literally in the jungle, and they can thank their garbage coworkers for starting this.

This is pretty much as predicted. His idiotic self finally meets self-realization of inevitable doom now - regardless if it's because he actually came to his senses or is looking for an out. I wouldn't be surprised if he asked for his wife to arrange divorce to protect her.

I am sure though, hindsight kicked in hard enough with the regret of "wow did I really need that racist boner at the cost of burning up my city and putting my colleagues and family at risk?"

Death isn't a good enough punishment for society's satisfaction. I'm sure many would rather have the police hand him over to decide his fate. If they're smart, they restrain him and force him to live forever. No need to torture him physically, just keep the thought of his human failure replaying in his mind.

Because at some point, you just won't be able to find it, especially in comparable condition. A supply/demand construct.

Not to swerve this topic, but same goes for sneakers. Like some plain ass model that retailed for ~$100, and sat through 50% discounts for a couple years, will eventually command a premium asking price in the future regardless of it's true worth. Seller knows that whoever is looking for that shoe bottom line can't find it anywhere else at this point.

Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, then Dodge/Viper.

I think Ferrari has cemented itself as the prototypical sports car image, carrying a racing heritage and defining itself by its color.

Lamborghini is a bit of the same beast but different animal. They have provided aspirations and perceptions of excitement in automotive history. Their roots create an interesting flip-side to Ferrari's racing heritage.

No ho-hum implications here, but I've had the privilege of growing up in the proximity of a Ferrari 365BB and more so a Lamboghini Miura. The sound of old V12 Ferarri's and Lamborghini's is totally something else. It's not the technical feats today (which are impressive), but literally stuff of imagination. You could tell people wanted them for more than just clout. People today largely get them with zero inspiration, but just "the thing to do".

Porsche carries it's own prestige but I always felt like the brand aimed to being smart as opposed to extreme. Results and racing history speak for itself. I do feel that while price of entry 911 is inaccessible compared to a Corvette, the package of quality and refinement meets its worth. Basically if I could, I would, but I'd always want a Ferrari ahead of one.

The Viper is an awesome car, I've even shopped it a bit (well, a 5th gen), but it's just nowhere in the league of the others as far has history and prominence goes.

If you have a plan for it, it's a good investment.

I've seen dealerships a few months ago bring in interesting stuff. Like a stupid-low mileage Tercel. It's like, ok it's just a Tercel, but it's also something that was preserved, and has proven itself in the test of time through examples put through their paces.

So I thought of stuff like that, but I feel like I also would be pressured to do it justice, and in reality I'm after a beater to park on the street at that budget. It's not going to appreciate in value, but I imagine it falling into general enthusiast's hands that will want to keep a piece of the past running as a nice example.

Ya, it was interesting. There was Tig welding and Mig welding.
Sandblasting..I learned the names of all the pipes...which I can barely remember now.
And ya, the sandblasting of the frames, and the painting and decals. It was a cool thing to be exposed to.

I am pretty sure some of their bikes made it to the Tour de France. They were that high level.

But also let me say, I got a wide-eyed look at Bike snobs as well...and that whole world.
.

Yeah the industry is very complex. Even just keeping a store alive is hard and turning into an extinct venture unless it's a manufacturer store (like Specialized)

I think Serotta was involved as a "backstage" builder for custom pro builds, carrying a different brand badge. The creative and craft side of bicycles is unfortunately sounding a bit lost. I shamefully admit my current bike was a direct box purchase (Canyon Aeroad). The expense of the sport, and the general pattern of things being more disposable and proprietary (destined for obsolete), it's the only viable move I have. Maybe different story if I wanted to spend the extra to keep older stuff going, but it's not there for me.

But that's basically the first date, and particularly me initiating it. Next dates are all split or mutually nothing about money. If a girl asks me out, if she wants to cover it for the same fashion I would then ok. No problem splitting it either.

I want to keep my car forever too. It might be a premium just to keep by law.

For electric in general, it's the oil industry, infrastructure, and just general R&D risks. I can believe every other manufacturer is letting Tesla be the test dummy or the one to pull the weight to get it started.

Stuff like interior infotainment, that might've been more because of manufacturers wanting to reserve that for higher end offerings. But we're here now. Like the most basic of Civics and Corolla's are coming with Bluetooth and backup cameras. On that note, I'm ashamed to say I'm not all that confident backing or going parallel into a space without a camera anymore.

I would honestly consider a Model 3, even if it's not totally perfect because the company has been proactive in improving it as they go. As a daily practical investment, it's looking promising apart from I guess serious repairs.

Electric has always been a fundamentally potent avenue to improve on ways ICE will always struggle with. Battery and programming technology have just needed time for us to get there, and we're still not totally there yet, but it has become viable for casual applications now.

The enthusiast base, seems to have a lot of tools, though. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you're one of them. I really don't care to indulge in car snobbery, because I can admit where my car and brand are heavily faulted. I have been conscious the idea of aligning as a Tesla owner, but not to the extent of scoffing at the thought of being a VW or Audi owner.

Cool post!!

Did you ever hear of Serotta?

They are more or less close now.

But I spent a lot of time in there factory back in the day.

At the time they were very high-end bikes.
My friends father was one of their master welders.

It was an interesting experience overall. We literally hung out there.
We fucked with the sand blower machine and hung out in the paint drying room.
As well as walked the shelves of the part department. Those components cost a mint, back then!

Good times actually, looking back at it.

I've heard of Serotta and was daydreaming about a Ti build for some time.

Awesome you got to be in the factory, because really that's cool exposure to actually see parts of the manufacturing vs. just trying to be sold on something.

For a minute I wanted to get into the R&D side of the industry. Specialized intern position needed me to still be in school. My commute train always passed by the Ritchey office.Always wondered what was in there but they seem like a tight-staffed company.

Actually, can someone lay out the benefits of plunking down a few hundred bucks on a bike versus just grabbing a bike for grown ups at a department store?

Very much a "get what you pay for" and honestly, that sucked learning that as I tried to bridge the gap in being self sufficient. If it wasn't for the learning experience, it was otherwise a very bad investment long term.

Derailleurs imo are the weakest points, because they're the most sensitive adjustments and upkeep really does involve being mindful of the whole cable system. And to that point, I got really fucking tired of that adjustment (especially with internal routing setups), and bought into electronic shifting. But I say that in the context of someone who'd regularly do training rides and stuff.

Wheels can suck at this level, and come out of true pretty easily.
I've noticed some department store brakes feel dangerously unsafe. What looks like stamped steel arms sometimes and just really spongy cable setups.Especially more of an issue if they let you walk out the door without at least telling you how to adjust them.

When I was a kid I had a Mongoose mountain bike I throw literally anything at. Heavy as a tank but I could do all the lock-ups I wanted, even on asphalt, and I never had to change tires over the span of like 4 years. Rear Derailleur managed to never come out of adjustment even if I sometimes did badly-timed or rapid multi-changes, and they put some thought towards putting a protective cage around it. Had a really cool looking swingarm too. I can't believe this was sold at a Toys R Us. Had a real hard time letting it go even if I couldn't fit on the thing anymore.

Only way you can stretch the worth is if you're mechanically competent and already have the tools and disposables.

I imagine you just want a bike to get around, but cycling can be a fucking expensive venture. I've had to give up on a couple bikes knowing they weren't worth maintaining.

Single speed (not fixed) can rid of a lot of maintenance costs. I'd be hunting that down. If you live in a hilly area you'll have to compromise though.

I'm seriously not anti-cop, but the ugly half of their force has been granted a million second chances, enough it has made them naive and blind to the fact people have made conscious choices to not fully become the animals we still are by scientific nature.

The police force will always be outnumbered by the opposing populous. There is nothing stopping people - apart from literal weaponized genocide - from assembling, and getting what they want. If the masses want it enough, they can straight eviscerate a cop on the street in cold blood and make an exhibition putnofnit. No badge, taser, a pistol magazine worth of bullets can stop true chaos. I wouldn't be surprised if there really are extremists in these protests that obsessively want to take Derek Chauvin alive for themselves, and not give him a luxury of dying in peace - psychopaths by society's standards, but unbounded by the laws of nature. As it is, how many protesters are firearm owners that still haven't resorted to using them? Those cops in Minnesota are crapping on literal news reporters, like who's to say someone doesn't want to go charge into their front line and shooting back or just driving a car into them? People can be much worse than they are now.

Sure enough the job always comes with fear of unpredictability and hostility that can be unwarranted. I respect the officers that try to be above that, and I get that it in turn can mess them up mentally. But a power trip is a potent death wish, not only to themselves but their contemporaries and close circles. Literally the only things that protect us from each other is this fabricated expectation everyone is genetically predisposed to the constructs of society.

Craig Liberman spelled it out: producers did so many nonsensical things in the movie, and knowingly so against his advice.

However, that was still the best movie. If you took away the realism, the spectacle, aesthetic, kinda being a reflection of that time and trend, and long lasting appreciable jokes cement the movie's place in history. Like, you can't not watch it if it's on, and pretend you don't know what part is up. Went to Neptune's Nest last year and I spent that whole meal thinking about Race Wars and how someone makes money slinging parts for Harry.
