yup haven't heard that in longer than I can remember. based on a true story.

Fastball front man Tony Scalzo came up with the idea for the song after reading articles which described the June 1997 disappearance of an elderly married couple, Lela and Raymond Howard from Salado, Texas, who left home to attend the Pioneer Day festival at nearby Temple, Texas, despite Lela's Alzheimers and Raymond recently recovering from brain surgery. They were discovered two weeks later, dead, at the bottom of a ravine near Hot Springs, Arkansas, hundreds of miles off their intended route.

(note this is all limited by what I can remember and what I've played vs not played)

the single best RPG boss of all time... I think I would have to say all 4 stages of the last boss of FF6. (note that's out of any RPG, not the best RPG.)

for some other best bosses from other RPGs:

Dark Souls 1: Ornstein and Smough
Dark Souls 2: Smelter Demon
Dark Souls 3: Midir

Baldur's Gate 2: ToB: Draconis... (I hate this boss so much; something about him is programmed such that he has a million things that can counter your every move, and knows how and when to use them. he will interrupt your casts constantly (and he has all kinds of ways of doing it) he will fully heal when you finally get him damaged, he can turn invisible and teleport at will, he can obliterate your party members by breathing acid, _and_ he can remove protection from acid, he can two-shot your toughest warriors with his claws. he's *insanely* hard. I think I've defeated him twice, and have died on him like 100+ times.)

(actually, I'm kind of surprised by how few RPGs I play these days... the last RPG I played was Oblivion back in October, >_>)

assuming what I've said is right, which it isn't necessarily, note that the myers briggs properties are not black and white, they are spectrums (spectra). you can have one of them be excessive, or you can have one of them somewhere in between.

(I don't even really know what the game is actually like, this is just a guess that I'm interested in people commenting on. it sounds plausible to me but who knows.)

I think what it might be is that the game is hugely cosmetic rather than functional. and some people do like things that are cosmetic, whereas some couldn't care less about that kind of thing. (as far as I know this is associated with S vs N myers briggs personality types; S types tend to like cosmetic things, N types tend to not care about them).

you guys are talking about "building the town", which almost sounds interesting, but I have a feeling that the town is not really all that functional, and "building" it is more or less only about making it look how you want it to look, not making it run better or worse.

for example, in contrast, planting your garden in Harvest Moon is maybe a little cosmetic (you build it to look the way you want it to look) but a lot functional (you have to be able to reach the plants, water them effectively, plant things that are in season, plant things that will grow in time, etc.)

probably a better format for saving a dialogue tree to a text file would be XML or JSON.

a CSV is good for basically a single table of data. so a list of records all of the same type.

XML and JSON will let you store hierarchical data of varying type.

these days, XML is starting to move towards obsoletion and JSON is probably the better choice between the two.

why are you supposed to "l2" use them?

if you parse them manually, note that a tricky part is that you can't simply split the line by the delimiter, due to there possibly being string values. basically, you need to count quotation marks.

yes, and all games are RPGs because you "play a role"...

Minecraft and SimCity are extremely dissimilar. you'd have to broaden your categories all the way down to "constructive" and "non-constructive" games or something to even get them in the same box at all.

I always wanted to like the Spirit Temple more, but for being the last one, it sure was way the heck too easy. It was pretty epic getting there, but then you get there and just breeze through the whole thing.

Forest has the best mix of being challenging and interesting without over-doing the element. (Fire, Water, and Shadow are maybe a little bit _too_ defined by their elements.)

there's lots of building games, not sure what you're looking for exactly though.

there's sort of Act Raiser 1 on SNES (half "city building" and half action-platformer). but everyone should already know about that.

there's a game on SNES called Utopia that almost no one has ever heard of. you build space colonies on strange planets, with some aliens now and then to negotiate or go to war with.

there's a PC game called Space Colony where you build a colony and have to make sure the people living in it don't lose their minds out of boredom or kill each other, etc. I think you also fight aliens in this one eventually but didn't get that far.

there's of course Factorio (PC) where you build an automated factory that could almost be called a 1-man city.

there's civ games.

there was an old old PC game from the 80s or 90s that I had once that had quite an environmental spin on things. but I think it was old and obscure enough that I'll never find it again.

Sahuagin
04/20/20 6:43:00 PM

are you asking what's typically weak to ice, or what one should design to be weak to ice? (sounds like both)

typically weak to ice: usually ice is just another version of water; not aware of anything that treats ice and water differently, except that maybe in some cases ice would also do bludgeoning damage

if you wanted to differentiate with water, maybe you could make ice "extreme water", and lava "extreme fire", and then have water beat fire, but lava beat water, but ice beat lava (and maybe complete the circle with fire beating ice?).

maybe another option is to separate element from temperature? cold + water = ice, heat + water = steam, etc. not everything would make sense that way though. (talking about this is reminding me of something, but not sure what. did Chrono Cross have something like this?)
