I think the fact that he and Zeus were just awkwardly punching each other in spite of the fact they both clearly have much more efficient means of fighting was meant to be a joke. It was meant to be stupid and awkward, but it didn't land with me.

The Phoenix Person fight was freaking awesome though, and he legit had a Rick-like arsenal. That laser battery was just more than Rick had the tools (on hand) to handle. The important thing to remember with Rick is, that, as powerful as he is, he's also lazy and overconfident.

TopicWhy is racism such a powerful force?
ElatedVenusaur
06/05/20 12:10:15 AM

It's worth mentioning "modern" racism was invented (unintentionally) by the Spanish, to justify persecuting Muslims who had converted to Christianity(moriscos) after the fall of Granada(the last remnant of Islamic Iberia) and the general carnage and brutality happening in the colonies, and, soon after, the slave trade.

Before that, religion was the go-to excuse, especially for Abrahamic religions, though the Zoroastrian Sassanids cruelly persecuted Christians as well(their calculus was simple: Christians = Roman sympathizers) and plenty of wars were justified by Buddhism and other eastern faiths(the Chinese in particular would kind of cycle through tolerating (or even promoting) Buddhists or persecuting them).

Before THAT, it was more ethnocentrism. Like, if you're an Ancient Greek from Athens, then you would think the Greeks were better than everyone else, and of course Athenians were the best Greeks. Alexander pissed off a lot of his original army by promoting Greeks and adopting Persian and some Persian customs, for another example.

At the end of the day, all of these explanations are just excuses to be terrible to outsiders, and we would/will come up with new ones if/when we didn't have them.

Killing a baby is always wrong, there was no guarantee Adolf Hitler would be, well....Hitler.

Also, the idea that there would be no fascist movement in Germany without Hitler is preposterous on its face: it was quite literally born from Germany's defeat and unleashed a firestorm of illegal(yet tolerated and sometimes celebrated) violence against communists after the failed Spartacist uprising in Bavaria in 1919.
There are a few essential factors which fed into Dolchstolegende ("the stabbed in the back myth"), including but not limited to:
1) Entente forces never entered German territory proper before Germany's surrender
2) The German military had largely succeeded in keeping the truth of what was happening on the Western front secret(and also they immediately started blaming the defeat on feckless bureaucrats and social democrats to cover their asses).
3) The British kept up their cruel, suffocating naval blockade even after the armistice was signed to force Germany to accept whatever peace the Entente offered.
4) The peace completely stripped Germany of her colonies
5) It also put large German minorities into newly-created states like Czechoslovakia and Poland
6) The reparations failed to account for the fact that the war had utterly ruined the German economy, a situation exacerbated by strong anti-German animus in France, Belgium, and other countries which had experienced occupation which shrunk demand for German goods even further
7) The ridiculous "war guilt" clause was essentially the Entente rubbing salt in Germany's wounds, just because it could

It is a chicken and egg thing. If the candidate does not have executive experience, is at least a rich, or at least a well known entrepreneur, the media is not wasting their time. The people who think Austin Petersen would have done better than Gary Johnson are absolutely absurd, the general public would have immediately dismissed him for having no notable accomplishments.
Conversely, CNN had Marianne Williamson and everyone else polling within the margin of error on for a town hall, which was a great thing that I hope they do again. They probably won't, of course, because liberals wail and gnash their teeth over how Jill "1.2% of the national popular vote" Stein "robbed" Hillary, and they would be absolutely hysterical if CNN let Howie Hawkins or whoever go on national television.
I guess the libertarians have a slightly better shot because of that.

I remember long ago telling a coworker I had a crush on I was going on a vacation from work, and for some reason, I took her hand in mine.
She responded by putting her other hand on top of mine.
When I got back, I was going to ask her out, but she looked at me glumly when she saw me and told me she had gotten a job back home in Atlanta and would be moving in 2-3 weeks.
Sucked, but holding hands is powerful stuff.

Another time, I learned I was getting fired from my job at the same time as learning a coworker was getting promoted, so I went to give her a high five, but as soon as my hand touched hers, she closed her hand around mine and looked me in the eye with a pained expression. She was a quiet one, so I know that meant a lot.

-Do not allow cops to carry fire-arms unless they are responding to a shooter
-Confiscate all military equipment
-Reduce funding overall and put it towards programs that have a better track record of reducing crime(education, housing, etc.)
-Lengthen police training and reconfigure it to emphasize de-escalation techniques, negotiation, and basic psychology and de-emphasize fire-arms
-Body cams are required and are to be on at all times when the cop is on duty. Turning it off for any reason must result in disciplinary action. If a cop who has turned off their body cam is involved in violent action, they are to be terminated and referred towards the prosecutor
-Any officer who shoots an unarmed subject is terminated immediately and referred to the proper authorities for criminal charges immediately.
-National database of cops who have been terminated for incidents.
-Naitonal database of incidents of police violence. Both must be publicly accessible.
-Mandate that at least 50% of all cops must live in the communities in which they work
-Racial and ethnic quotas: the cops should look like their community
-Fire qualified immunity into the sun.
-Free and mandatory psych evals for cops who are involved in justifiable violent incidents
-Require ongoing training and education. This would, of course, be free.
-Thorough third-party review of all violent incidents
-End civil asset forfeiture, full stop.

Also, it references the murderous cop I referred to: James Boulay, who shot and killed 15-year old Jayson Negron in 2017. His sister is Jazmarie Melendez, and she spoke to my class back in February(along with a few other advocates, including a black guy whose name I can't remember because I'm dumb who got shot in the chest by cops, but thankfully survived).

Needless to say, the cop wasnt even fired. I bet shes out there, and I hope she and everyone else is safe.
