It definitely is when playing on a difficulty where everything doesn't melt like butter. Some of my favorite memories of the game are of tanking a boss like vibrace by myself until I buy enough time for others to come help me, tagging everything I can as they run past me. Situations like that are even still the case in JP for the big buster quest urgent quest because it's insanely hectic spawning like 5 bosses at a time, and we've for the most part powercrept that one too.

I highly suspect the excube FUN thing is a somewhat more recent addition than the other stuff because FUN is effectively a dead currency in the current iteration of the game due to the excube trading.

it's been this way since episode 3 when magatsu was first introduced

pretty sure magatsu even dropped more shit than he does now (plus way more were 10* because there was no sigmas in the pool, and the 12* were legitimately rare cuz highest rarity at the time), but kills were way slower and there was also a significant chance of failure on the higher difficulties. so you barely got in two runs instead of a basically guaranteed 4

Speaking of mining defense, I'm glad I'm seeing a lot of people online hate it and not just me. It's basically a mix between target practice and a gear check.

the early ones are definitely annoying as hell, being good at them when they were current 100% came down to movement skill involving chaining dashes, jumps, and step attacks to move very slightly faster. 4th one is nice because it's more centralized and compact (and gets SUPER compact during the last phase, focusing mostly on the boss fight aspect). ep5 buster quests.... are hit or miss, but I mostly like them. they're mostly set up like the first base defense (4 in a line) but you have ton of tools to slow down enemies with and four players can even choose different defensive loadouts for each tower. plus you also spend about half the time utterly ignoring the towers so people generally do actually spread out and defend during defense phases, instead of getting antsy and running around everywhere

ray absolutely, those rising 2 badges accumulate kinda slowly and you can just trade for brissa (they drop from magatsu so their value has tanked in price)

ray units can technically drop in ultimate quests, but only from the main boss of it, and in about 25 hours of grinding ultimates i've seen none yet... but i have seen many nemesis/slave weapons

i went ahead and affixed my brissa units to 3 slots even though i'm gonna upgrade to ray sometime. 3 slots is super ez and the gear will be useful for levelling classes anyways

you can make something similar to this for melee/ranged, and change the technique+pp to just technique to save money if your stat is too expensive (they were 200k for tech ones). if you just want to work towards a 2 slot first and do 3 slot later in the week (or even use this as fodder for your brissa/ray in the future), you can slap stat 3 + relevant soul on for super super super cheap

(+30% is 20 excubes, you can do a +10% and risk it but imo not worth it. also +20% need like AC items or some shit)

make sure you know what to look for before you price it

if it's a 3+ affixed unit with at least one valuable affix (any that are automatically preselected, plus casting/power/shooting 3 or the HP/PP ones at 3), augment price it, item pricing is worthless for units unless it's magatsuhi, brissa, or saiki

if it's a sigma weapon at augment level 4 or higher, item price then price around that. people buy these en masse to level their 13*, and +5 ones go for like 100k each. price them near the minimum price and people will buy these really fast, making room for more sales

if it's a 13* weapon, item price it, and price based on element and the amount of affixed attack/hp/pp it already has. something like +40 of the relevant attack type can bump up price, +100 will bump up price a LOT, and +150 means you're now super rich

most items you get will be trash, i wouldn't list anything less than 5k unless it's stackable. also go through your sales list every day or two and reprice old stuff

excubes can be exchanged for fun tickets, 2 excubes -> 1000 fun iirc. it's entirely feasible to keep up shop forever f2p. your listed stays up when your time runs out so you only need to use another shop pass to relist more stuff, too

once you gain experience you can pretty much roll on autopilot and muscle memory, but it took at least a year for me to become super comfortable with it

they're still kinda ok in shaq because it helps with drops for stuff like 13* worth 2-3m each, at least, and xh magatsu shits out excubes to the point where sustaining 250% at all times becomes trivial

it's just that, unfortunately, loot rolls in a specific way in this game and only some kind of drop number booster would work for boosting capsule gain as far as booster items go, and i think that quality is a very rare effect (I'm completely unaware of anything boosting it besides, like, event mission boosts, similar to what we have going on currently with AQ)

Noted. I stumbled across the Sigma TMG somewhere or other, but it's quite outclassed by my Nox one and I don't yet have the Dex for it (I'm at 66-67 right now, iirc), plus regular TMG attacks aren't exactly the best for damage.

sigmas aren't generally better than nox, yeah. it's just that the main downside to sigma weapons (dex requirement) is also a strength (all classes can end up equipping it eventually). you'd need a +200 dex mag to equip it early on though lol

solo, with 3 AI party members? they're basically not sustainable

two people you can go consistently positive with, and four people you end up with like 15-50 after each run depending on pse bursts

good news is that vhaq is generally better exp/h anyways all the way to 75 (infected enemies give 2k-6k exp each with full boosters running still), shaq just has better loot and is about same exp with four people who can kill fast

btw rare drop boosters don't affect drop rate of capsules

everything is buyable with ingame money from the marketboard, but it'll become more expensive over time. you'd probably need to play for a week or two to make money to buy some of it

stuff like the outfit should be cheap ish, but anything consumable (which includes hairstyle tickets) ends up costing a ton

What summon weapons do you recommend? I'm currently wearing tiki armor and using an optic staff. Trying to get biome keys right now, have hallow, jungle, and frozen so far. I do have a pygmy staff, but the optic staff summons seem more versatile than the pygmies. I'm post plantera right now, but haven't taken on golem yet.

desert tiger staff is good, it + optic staff lasted me till pillars (upgrade your tiger to the highest tier possible and then spend the leftovers on optic). stardust dragon for bossing (and dense mobbing, like in pumpkin moon) and stardust cell for mobbing are both super fantastic then. terraprisma is AMAZING but lmao good luck getting it before you beat the final boss; you can TECHNICALLY try to go get it right now but her enrage attack patterns are such bullshit you'll want celestial car and really high offense

don't forget you can use a sentry too. whips are generally bad and you shouldn't really use them. as for armor, your only two upgrades are spooky armor (pumpkin moon) and stardust armor (pillars).

do make sure you get as many possible +summon things as you can btw. importance list is like papyrus scarab > necromantic scroll > pygmy necklace > celestial shell/stone > anything that gives +minion damage. wings are nice but actually unneeded once you can spawn martians (i think that's post golem?), because the celestial car is op

if you wanna end up playing this character for a while, work towards the new best sword in the game too, zenith. screw whips, zenith is the best for literally everyone. optimal summonering in terraria is just unlimited blade works

also i can answer any general questions but tldr do Cofy CO's to unlock shit and catch every urgent quest you see for max efficiency, also don't fuck up your mag massively (you want 200 of either melee, ranged, or tech power, or dex. melee is the most versatile, dex will be useful literally everywhere in about 4-5 months but is only useful for bouncer and braver right now). if you want to spend zero bucks, you can have one mag of each main attack type across your three character slots, otherwise future mags are like $3 (you need four to play everything ever optimally)

you can play every class on one character so you can try em all

braver, bouncer, and hunter are all relatively easy, cool, and newb-friendly

braver uses katana and/or bow but usually katana, bouncer uses jet boots where they do a bunch of flippy kicking maneuvers and dual blades where you fire off a million energy swords, and hunter is the most "basic" class that uses a huge 2h sword, wired lances, or partizans
