Even in Toykyo, one of the most expensive places to rent, you can get a 1 room apartment for $550 and a 1k aparment (seperate kitchen/bathroom) for about $600-650.

They are used to living in smaller spaces there though. A 150 square foot apartment is very rare here.

Sadly even 2 bedroom apartment in Tokyo are cheaper then in many places in the US now lol.

$1900 or so there gets you a 2 bedroom apartment, but you can't get a 1 bedroom for that price in most of the Bay Area CA, and it's approaching that price for a 2 bedroom in many of the major cities (and sometimes even in suburbs) in the US.

Yet our population density is WAY less, so it makes absolutely no sense.

But you got factor in a lt of societal differences like there are things in japan that are viewed as innocent but would get you jailed in america. Not trying to sound like an otaku but culturally they are more in the mind your business train of thought where as in post McCarthy usa its always be suspicous of others. That difference makes americans want huge personal space bubbles vs japan being ok with coffin hotels

So to put a different look at this if people had signed up for job loss insurance either through mortgage or rent (by the way on a 97,000 houses it was 27.76 monthly) would they be looking at the #cancelrent people as deadbeats that were licking toilet seats during convid or is that still a bridge to far.

I mean I think we can all agree that the idea of thse towards the top of the wealth pyramid should not be able to self determine wages. You will always hear yes we deseve more just as the epi-pen spokesmon justifying that a device that takes roughly $0.30 to make and that only $0.12 of medicine cost $500.00+ dollars because it would be dishonest to his investors to not get the max income back.

That behavior is what led to the housing problems as those with money were able to squeeze out others thro gentrification which caused housing prices and rentals to skyrocket not the landlords

I dont believe in trickle down economics as a justifie explaination of protecting the wealth but I do believe that trickle down inflation is a problem they created.

I think they just want people to live in assigned tenement housing. That way its government regulated what you pay if anything. Heck lets h ha ve the government provide liscences for wht jobs you can apply for. Lets have the government also predetermine how much you are paid as salary so that way no amount of work would merit a better standing. I mean why should a doctor who went to school 8 years +internship get more money than walmarts door greeter who cannot pass a drug test without buying it from his neighbors kid. Why not just pull your jobs from the job hat at birth. Yeah that was why I chose that word specifically. Financial hardship is a whole other story. Heck I have a med list that is around 107 a month due to my seizures and the like (thanks to the people who love to point out when it begins acting up) and I realize I am on the low end of the spectrum. It just seems that a person driving a Bentley shouldn't be asking for the stimulus, free rent, and additional loans. Like wise if a person got the stimulus and used it for necessary items/rent they are doing great. The people who are treating covid stim like its post katrina fema money are the problem and unfortunately they are the most vocal for free rent. Honestly there is no reason for a single homeless person in north america (canada and mexico included)

I see your point and agree with the main part . Landlords should get paid .

However disagree with your view to hold only tenants responsible ( aka , as you said - everyone should pay rental fee ).
Both parties need to have a responsibility.
Renting a property should never be considered a casual thing where you drain your savings to the limit to buy a property to rent it... to pay your mortgage of your home and totally depend on it . It's a business not a full time job . The level of resposibility is at another level and such business as renting needs to be ready for case of emergency to hold moral behavior towards people who are directly involved in such business .

Of course the debate about this is questionable because both tenants and landlords are not all respectful or fair . To set some rules everyone would need to follow them , which they wouldn't ,thus making our view on anything relating to it difficult .

That is a rational way to look at it. Like I mentioned earlier I knew a landlord that provi is ed above and beyond care of his properties. He deserved every dime he got. Slumlords need to be held to task more but often are not. If the lost the stimulus for not maintaining the facilities yes of course they should not get a dime. Likewise if a person refuses to pay the should be evicted.

Depends on state and city ordinance. Plenty of people live without power. Yes I did know that. I also know that an unfortunate amount of people misuse there stimulus checks. Seriously getting 2400 plus base unemployment they shuldn't have an issue. Sure thats only for ten weeks but for most people in my area that is well above minimum wage at $10.00 an hour. Yes this is only for 10 weeks but I doubt the lockdown is gonna last past June 1st

But if they have been put out of work by a government order, then no, there is no ethical responsibility for them to pay any rent or even back rent when the quarantine period is over, and landlords who try to collect on that deserve nothing put torches and pitchforks.

No. Everyone should pay any rental/mortgage agreement. However the government should step in as you say for te government order group. The landlords didnt ask for a lock down why should they be punished. Thats why I said they should sign over the stimulus check. This is the type of hardship the government was trying to offset.
