If the explanation is poverty, why are so many nations that are abysmally and shockingly poor, compared to the US, doing so much better?

India's numbers are a couple orders of magnitude better than ours. Is it because they have better living conditions? Less poverty? Better jobs? More working from home?

Because I personally know two people with family in India...

It's because their government actually reacted immediately and shut down transportation going in and out of their country.

No. Read the article. They haven't been allowed to open even though they feel they should be allowed to. They are appealing to please open cuz they are down to their last 3 million in emergency funds then entirely bankrupt.

Just did more research.

The zoo was allowed to open on July 1, then Newsom ordered zoos (and other non-essential operations) 3 days to close, which fell in line with my housemate taking his kids to the Six Flags zoo yesterday, but everything being mandatory to being closed today. I looked and the Oakland Zoo was open yesterday, but not today. So I was right.

I have a friend who worked at the Cincinnati zoo and got laid off at the start of this. Working with animals is his passion, but it's looking uncertain when he can go back to working at any zoo at this rate.

Well, this is depressing.

Sane, 31, is returning to Japan to be with her husband. This has been in the works for a while and the company has known about it since May if not earlier. Sane was injured by Jax legit by being thrown into the ring steps hard when she was too close to the steps to control her bump on a Raw match taped on 5/26, which had to be stopped and was edited before it aired on television on 6/1. Thats why she hasnt been around since, although she is cleared and is scheduled to appear on Raw soon as she is listed for the 7/3 tapings which would be for 7/6 and/or 7/13. But the decision at the time was to not harp on the injury on television nor talk about it at all publicly which is why they never played it up and her name hasnt been talked about. The idea in play before the Sane-Jax legit injury was to do a career-ending injury angle with her later when it was time for her to leave, which was to set up Asuka against that person at SummerSlam for the title. This is also likely changed since Heyman left, and the person who would have most likely (not confirmed) been put in that spot would be either Flair, who may or may not be back by then, or Baszler, who Vince removed from television. The only thing we know is the person who ended her career was not scheduled to be Jax. While theres been no talk about it of late, there had been talk that once her contract with WWE was up that she would wrestle one more year in Japan and then retire.

even if hypothetically the incident described was the literal only thing true (which I doubt is the case), this would still be the only possible course of action that would give EVO a chance to recover. People in the community already generally dislike MrWizard (the only possible explanation for why he was such a front-facing figure for the organization is that he owned it), and this story would absolutely never go away as long as he remained.

If they had the third party investigation return completely false, that would make it go away. But the fact they didn't even wait for it when they have literally nothing to lose if they let the investigation go on at this point just shows they know the guy is guilty of that, if not moreso.

Edit: Oh, I didn't see anything Mr. Wizard said about it. Good lord. Then yeah, getting rid of him immediately was the only option.

This feels very knee jerk. Mr. Wizard did some messed up stuff if the accusation ends up being true, but it really sucks for the players, and there's a lot more involved with the production of EVO than just Mr. Wizard. If he gets ousted after the third party investigation, then EVO is still left with nothing.

I get not wanting to "reward" Mr. Wizard by continuing EVO Online, but I feel bad for the players who don't get a chance to play on that stage, even if it's not really the real thing this year.

I dunno, at the same time I can't really blame these companies for backing out. This sucks, overall.

Here's the thing.

They've dealt with so much trauma from their experience being trans that they don't want to play this game. There is no warning for them, and they were told how it plays out and they have no interest in dealing with it. It's easy to say "They can't judge because they didn't play it" but they don't want to play it because they don't want to experience all of this but with a dressing of "religious cult" or "trans empowerment murdering people wantonly who deadname them and moves on like nothing".

And why should they? Why should their opinions mean less without playing the game, when their opinions should matter most because it's offensive enough to them that they don't want to play it? I'm not going to expect any of them to force themselves through a game knowing they'll hate how trans issues are portrayed to give a more proper opinion on it.

"Faithful to reality" doesn't mean it creates a 1:1 mirror of our reality. It means it gets to the heart of the issue and depicts that within the circumstances the game takes place in. I'm a straight white guy who lives in Texas, so my demographic would be one to normally trivialize the issues trans people face. Yet I played TLOU2, and I feel the same way about them as I did before: they deserve better, and our culture needs to evolve to include them properly.

I think comparing the how faithful to reality Gone Home is to TLOU2 is a gigantic stretch.

You asked why trans people are upset. I explained to you why based on conversations I've had with them.

This isn't like some kind of allegory like X-Men for racism, it's taking trans issues and then framing them in a way that takes away the realness of the actual abuse they receive from friends and family, and how they cope, and how they deal with these issues. I think it was all done with good intentions in mind, but it was also done in a clumsy manner that probably could have used actual trans voices reviewing it.

They felt like it didn't get to the heart of the issue at all, clearly. And I'm willing to take their opinions on it far more than yours because, as you said, you aren't trans and they are.

Legitimate question: doesn't great art resemble reality in many cases? Why wouldn't you want that representation? The game does not condone how the Scars are, and glorifies Abby for renouncing her faction to be a family of sorts with Lev and Yara. It says, "he isn't accepted in that group, and that group is in the wrong, but here is a character that does accept him as Lev and not Lily."

I'm not trans so I'll gladly defer to someone who is trans and played the game to completion saying they didn't approve of it for this reason. But I'd imagine the way this game depicts the transsexual struggle is welcomed because it's faithful to reality while also asking for reality to be better because trans people deserve better.

Trans people want to be represented positively without being reminded of various traumas they go through. That's really it. They don't want to be the surprise villain, they don't want their character to be a tortured soul. They just want positive representation for them.

I think Lev is a good character and about the only one I liked, but from what I understand from my trans friends, they just didn't want to play this game with a poorly conceived fantasy about real trans issues and experiences. That's really about it.

Edit: Also, it isn't really "faithful to reality" because they're in a zombie apocalypse, and it's a creepy religious cult, it discusses themes of 'being a warrior', and Lev kills his mother at the end after she tries to kill him. It's a fantastical take on the real issues that trans people go through, and one of my trans friends described it as 'trivializing'. It's really just a poor setting to deal with a sensitive subject like trans issues.

I really liked the story of the first game and wanted to watch it so that I could develop a fair opinion on it because I was curious to see if maybe the spoilers really did just make it all seem worse than it was, and that with context of how everything played out, does it end up making it all work better? I happen to be interested in writing in general, in various mediums, and I like analyzing that, for better or worse.

But like I said, I'm not really interested in discussing it anymore.

The main things that make the game are the feel of playing it and the constant surprises/intensity. That's something you'll never get after having read the spoilers and watching videos of the game. Your opinions on it are absolutely worthless, so why are you talking about it so much?

Now this is just flat out wrong.

I've discussed the game's story. Something you can do without 'having the feel of playing it'. I've offered plenty of reasoning why I felt like the writing was poor and ways it could have been improved.

I think the biggest problem is that most of the critics of the game's story haven't even played it. Ulti and Biscuit post constantly about it despite never playing the games themselves. I'm not quite sure what's wrong with them.

I've pretty clearly said I've seen like 95% of the game via watching streams and videos (missing a small gap of stuff in Ellie's side). All I was really missing was hands on a controller. And the only statement I've made about the gameplay is that I heard it's much of the same as the last game and I probably wouldn't like playing this one since I didn't like the gameplay of the first game.

Well, to be fair, you ran into Ulti and Biscuit, who can be some of the most obnoxious people here.

Cute.

But pezz has been purposefully obtuse in both of these topics and has completely altered people's arguments and hasn't been worth conversing with about it. He's been either willfully ignorant or manipulative in any conversation, and I could tell that after he deluged like a dozen posts on me at one point before I could even respond in which he was arguing things I never said and he refused to listen to everyone telling him that he was.

All that said, I'm actually pretty bored with discussing the game already. It's got a ton wrong with it, and I think it's a disaster of writing, but I can see why people would like it (it's fine for a AAA game story). But Naughty Dog, Druckmann, and even Troy Baker of all people have been really gross in defending the writing in their game to the point where it's not worth my time to even discuss it further.

I think it was when a particular mod here moderated me for trying to sell my video game stuff so I could help afford an attorney to defend myself after my ex almost ruined my life to the point where she intended to put me in jail while also trying to afford moving across the country for a new job.

Yeah, I wouldn't trust my child to be at some fighting game events with people who are mostly older than them, somewhere unsupervised.

I thought about it a bit and it's not like letting your child hang out with kids their age at a party that ends up having drugs at it or something. And it's not like letting your kids hang out at, say, a game shop where there's an employer and plenty of people of various ages there.

I remember that Kane Blue River (I think that was his name?) attended a lot of MvC3 tournaments, but his parents were always there. I can't see letting my kids go there alone or unless someone is there to keep a close eye on them that I trust a lot at the very least.

Meltzer reported that WWE is interested in Tessa Blanchard. But further reports are coming from others saying that the only person who reported that to Dave is Tessa Blanchard. Or potentially Blessa Tanchard. Tony Khan is reportedly very against bringing in Tessa.

The game routinely wants you to feel for Abby, when they also make her screw her drunk ex-boyfriend whose current pregnant girlfriend rightfully doesn't want her to hang out with him, and then Abby proceeds to tell him that their night of awkward lovemaking meant absolutely nothing to her.

The game is constantly at odds by having Abby do shit that terrible people do but then go around attempting to make you feel bad for her. And it's very strange that people are acting like this job does such a great job making you feel bad for a woman who tortures people and is an adultress.

In lighter news, Twitch is also being sued by a guy who is citing damages for money he spent on the platform and for jacking off too much to female streamers, claiming Twitch does nothing about his compulsory need to subscribe to them all and jack off to them by removing them from the platform.

But in all seriousness, the Alinity stuff is actually appalling that she never gets punished for. Throwing cats, her dog licking and sniffing her crotch, showing porn on stream. Showing her bare breast on stream only got her a 2 day suspension, after she supposedly had to ask them for it.

Meanwhile there are art streams that get completely taken down for almost provocative pictures.

And the fact that DarkSydePhil can break the terms of service on the daily and never get in trouble is wild too. In fact, his staff contact (some dude who got busted for looking for girls' phone numbers and calling them and creeping on them days ago among other things) told him that to avoid getting in trouble for screaming at his fans and calling them all manner of ban-worthy names, that all he has to do is delete his archives.

Twitch is a busted ass system that seems like the rules are enforced only for those who don't make them boat loads of money.

I'll add a spoiler tag to that to be safe.

Abby definitely already knows he did it to break out "the immune girl". Obviously she can figure he wouldn't have done that for literally no reason, at the very least. She also tells her dad that if it was her she'd still want him to do the surgery in response to overhearing him and Marlene. I'm not saying it's perfect (because it isn't and I agree with a lot of what you said otherwise), but that angle is definitely covered.

I'll keep using spoiler tags too.

You're right that they know it's the immune girl. But it's a lot different when an old man explains to you why he did it and what that little girl meant to him than just not hearing it from his own mouth.

I also have a huge issue with the fourteen(?) year old girl going "Yeah dad, you should definitely murder this random little girl for the cure! I'd definitely be alright with you killing me! Totally! Do it!" Because first of all, it's super messed up that Abby is apparently fine with another girl just being straight up murdered without consent, even if she is an idiot fourteen year old. Because it's one thing to say that she'd be all about being killed for it without being in that position herself. It just makes me think she's been a heartless person from age fourteen. And while yes, the story is that she shows some amount of empathy with the whole Yara and Lev thing (which frankly feels so disjointed and so poorly done I don't entirely buy into her actually being empathetic towards them considering by the end of that arc the best she has to say is "I don't know why I'm protecting them. Because it's the right thing?"). If you want me to feel bad for her, just have her be like "Dad, I support your choice here. I'd definitely be okay if you killed me!" But have her be even a little bit conflicted about it in private because holy shit you are way too okay with child murder Abby.

That's why I think the game would really benefit from Abby and Joel having a conversation. Or literally any nuance. The issue with Abby is that there is nothing in the game that makes me think there's anything really legitimately good about her, let alone something that absolves her of torturing a man who just saved her life without a second thought. Hell, she doesn't even seem to have an issue or conflict like "Maybe he's not too bad." Having THAT would at least mean something. Why not have Joel go "I saved your life. Doesn't that mean anything to you?" And have Abby at least second guess murdering him, but feeling like she needs to go through with it, or that her friends egg her on, or anything. Just anything that tells me "This is not a sadistic, selfish person." But I never got that. And I know they tried, but the smaller things I see Abby do and the overall story seem to be at odds with each other.

Also, I'll probably not be able to reply to anything for the next two days as I'll be super busy. But I'll be happy to discuss it further later! Despite how poorly I think the game is written, I think there's a lot to dissect and discuss.
