The tax credits they were getting in some states seemed fair because private school parents also pay taxes used for public schools and public students, even though obviously private school children do not utilize public schools. I dont know if threat is the right word. At the very least, threat should not be tied to the black American population. As @I4NRulez reminded me, and as Terry Crews and you dont see eye to eye, we should be careful of generalizing people, because they do have different views.

Regarding power, it absolutely exists. The protests and the support for it are real world examples of that. It came together quickly and was focused on police brutality and a demand for changes within law enforcement. This was picked up around the world. It was championed by not only black citizens, but also white citizens and others. The media, celebrities, politicians, regular citizens and even businesses supported it. And although we can argue about their motives, the result is still a showing of political power.

Change will come and that could prove to be a good thing. Crews is speaking about making sure the change will be positive. Theres a big difference between defunding the police and abolishing them entirely, for example. Ive heard/read people (some here on CE) argue unironically for the latter. Be careful when you go down that path, which I believe is part of what Crews is warning about. The protesters in the CHOP found out the hard way, when they became what they hated.

Crews is concerned about the current movement going in that direction. He clearly wants to make sure it doesnt. That should not be controversial. There are literally videos (some recent, others older) of people making others kneel or physically attacking them because they did not show the proper support of BLM. In this thread, youve got members implying that Crews is not really black, or not the right kind of black, because he isnt saying what they want to hear.

Crews is right to be cautious of where this is all headed, and hes using very benign language to get his message across.

If any of you dont think its possible for even the best of intentions to get massively derailed and head down a twisted path, then you were not paying attention to what happened in the Capitol Hill Organized Protest area (also known as CHOP and CHAZ). Seriously. An American Governor, American Mayor, and many people watching supported allowing protesters to unlawfully take over several blocks of a US city, with the hope of de-escalating tensions and, I believe, to allow them a chance to apply their plans in a real world environment. I mean it should not have been allowed at all, but I was relieved they did not send in the National Guard to reclaim the streets. Regardless, police eventually reported that calls were increasing for their assistance because of crimes being committed and violence on the rise. The CHOP members, on at least one occasion, were starting to practice segregation, as crazy as that sounds. They couldnt negotiate anything in good faith either, because there was no recognized leadership. Apparently whatever law enforcement they did set up was complicit in some of this, although no one now wants to take any responsibility and people said they are planning to sue the state and police for not intervening.

In short, the protesters with the big ideas and peaceful demands became what they hated, and they did it really fast.

Ehh, drug charges come out to around 450,000. It is a big number, no doubt. But thats still around 20 percent of federal, state, local and other incarcerations. I dont support locking up drug users, so Ill agree with you on some kind of release, reform or similar.

I will give some more thought to any nonviolent charges, though I believe they make up close to, but less than, half of incarcerations, even if you include those drug related.

In the recent riots, some people were severely injured and at least one person killed when rioters attacked citizens who werent really able to protect themselves. I think this husband and wife would have gone down fighting.
