Its really macabre that this happened.

You keep trying to place the problem on other people and saying it is them and their labels that are the problem. Have you ever thought you're just wrong on a lot of these things? For example, the post you appear to be agreeing with here is simply incorrect as a matter of history, economics, social science etc. Black people TODAY largely live in neighborhoods as functionally segregated as the were in the 60s, have far less wealth than white people, go to worse schools, get worse jobs, are brutalized by police and the criminal justice system, have higher rates of mortality and lower life expectancy, experience political suppression, reduced enforcement of civil rights violations, demonization, and stigma. That's the CURRENT situation.

All of this is due directly to the ideologies that are operating today the effects of past policies. History does not go away because you want to "move forward" and history is not some abstract, intangible thing either. History directly placed people into that segregation, there's nothing they could have done to avoid that other than being born to different parents who were not themselves the descendants of the people who endured slavery and Jim Crow.

A three item checklist that ignores that the very subjugation that occurred and is still being felt and absolves society for any responsibility for what it has done and is doing, combined with a convenient desire to "move forward" by ignoring reality and the very nature causality itself, while doing absolutely nothing to produce any forward movement is not going to make thing better.

Ignoring all that is why people don't like you guys, it's not because you are some type of misunderstood truth teller being labelled by the mob.

my mom has told me stories of how she saw her cousin get lynched, desegregation, being black in the military, and a lot more.

even more about my grandma and great grandma. My mom still cries about some of it because racist burned down their house as a kid that my family built themselves

I didnt say that, I just meant its not as easy/simple as hes making it out to be. And I thought it was relevant ITT given that, for slave-owners, slavery is meant to create for them a docile workforce.

I have an important and interesting question that I want you to answer. Presumably, at some point, you believe black people in this country experienced enough oppression to make it unreasonable to expect success on the same level as white Americans? I would hope that would at least cover slavery and Jim Crow. Okay, so lets say black people were held down until 1970 or so. Is that when you believe black people should have started to "get over it" or have acted as if there was no oppression? Is that the point where you can see lower outcomes for black people and start blaming it on black people, black culture etc?

When was that point? The 70s? The 80s? The 90s? Because nothing was ever actually done to fix the fundamental problems that existed in the 60s. Mass incarceration, loss of manufacturing jobs and unions, and the War on Drugs were just added to the issues that existed then. The boot was taken off the neck through civil rights legislation, but that's not going to magically produce actual equality when people still live separately and are still poor and that was never fixed.

Just stopping discrimination was never going to be enough when people had been kicked so far down. And that's not even acknowledging the fact that discrimination never stops in American society, it simply goes down by one step when the previous step becomes unacceptable.
