I'm physically incapable of wearing earbuds so headphones for me. I have a pair of Bluetooth headphones that also have a port to make them wireless if I don't wanna deal with the Bluetooth audio lag (very noticeable if you're watching a video). So best of both worlds.

The attache case from Resident Evil 4 is my favorite form of inventory. At least in adventure games.

I'm playing RE1 for the first time right now and it's not as bad as Silent Hill 4 but its still annoying to have to go get key items I found when I find out what I need them for because I've mostly cleared out the hallways and rooms around the safe areas so it's not like backtracking causes me any dread, it just takes me out of exploration mode when I'm in a new area like "ok I guess I need this but it's in an item box so I gotta go back there and then come back and try it and hope it works."

And it just takes me out the suspense/mystique of the game and just makes me annoyed I have to run down the same empty hallways over and over to fetch stuff.

if you want to know what inventory management is. Shout me a hollar dun.

If you read my posts, I'm not really bitching about that. I'm mostly talking about trying to progress through a game and getting to a point where I need a certain item to progress but I don't have it on me and I have to go back and waste time and loading screens to get them and come back.

Limiting healing items I don't mind, not being able to have 20 weapons and ammo for them all, I'm mostly fine with (so long as you don't need a certain weapon to progress). Mainly I just hate backtracking to get something thats required that you had before but weren't carrying on you because it took up space.

Or at least just have key items outside of weapons and health be unlimited. Like anything that doesn't have to do with combat strategy and is only used to solve a puzzle or something, shit like that should just be key items that you can keep so you can progress when you come across a puzzle and not backtrack 5 rooms and then back to the same spot again, it shouldn't affect what equipment you're carrying.

It is part of the difficulty. Carry what you need, and not what you want.

The thing is, it just makes things more tedious than difficult in most cases because you just end up backtracking to refill. Just make ammo more scarce. Or make weaker weapons be the more common ammo (which is often the case anyway) and you won't go willy nilly on your big weapons for common enemies because you don't know when you'll get that ammo again. As for healing items, maybe make a limit to how much you can carry of each item so you aren't carrying unlimited health because that does make the game easier but it shouldn't affect how much of other things you can carry.

Backtracking through places you've already cleared out so you know there isn't any danger just to pick something up to solve a puzzle you've ran into or to get more ammo or whatever doesn't make a game more difficult. And I'd argue it takes you out of the momentum and tension of the game

I'm playing through the first Resident Evil remake. And I gotta say it's better than Silent Hill 4 where ammo took up slots in 10 round increments and you don't have to basically end a day to save and store your items. But it's still really tedious.

I get the idea that it's supposed to make you not OP to have like 25 herbs and 10 sprays and every gun on your person and all the ammo you pick up. So you have to be strategic and adds to the sense of dread that you're not as prepared and that can be valuable in a horror game that's not suppose to put you at ease. But at the same time, the item boxes are in pretty safe areas and once you know where they are and how to get to them safely, I just find myself frustrated more than anything to continually have to backtrack especially when there's a puzzle I found out how to solve only to realize the items I need are in my box so I have to keep going back. And the backtracking doesn't cause me any dread because I know how to get back and forth safely, its nothing but frustration at that point which takes away from the suspense. The first 3 Silent Hill games were able to create a scary environment and atmosphere with unlimited inventory so I don't think such a thing needs to be relied upon.

As far as other games like Elder Scrolls or BotW or Borderlands I also think it's just something that builds frustration more than makes the game fun because then you spend half the game trying to decide what to drop for this new thing you find or of it's even worth picking out and it just takes away from the gameplay.

^I always found that part of item management fun, to an extent. Having to go back and forth between safe rooms, finding the easiest way through the mansion while still avoiding the enemies you left alive to drop off or pick up important items. It's one of the few games where the inventory system interacts directly with the map.

I hadn't found a safe roof when I posted that. But yeah now I kind of have a better understanding of how to manage inventory now that I know that there are item boxes like in Silent Hill 4 and know where a couple of rooms that have them are. And at least unlike in SH4 I don't have to keep going back to my room to deposit stuff all the time which can fuck up your ending, I just gotta keep track of where a couple of rooms are. And like I said before ammo takes up only one spot. So it doesn't seem too bad honestly but it's still kind of annoying, guess I was spoiled by the first 3 Silent Hills.

I do like the ambience of this game better so far than Silent Hill and overall it feels creepier to me, but I'm sure this being a remake compared to SH's PS1 graphics is sort of unfair.

Just got the shotgun and almost smashed by the ceiling until barry saves you. Still dunno where Wesker went but I've seen him be pretty high up in character battles on this site and he looks pretty badass so I'm ready to see why people like him so much since I know jack shit about the lore of these games. I've only ever seen the first movie and that was back in like 8th or 9th grade when my friend rented it so that was like 2004? And really all I remember from that movie was zombies and some little girl A.I. screaming at the characters to kill their friend that might be infected lol

Just booted up RE1 HD. So I really gotta get used to these controls. Overall the gameplay seems similar to Silent Hill (get to areas, find the map, look for clues and find items while fighting/avoiding monsters).

I just died on the 2nd zombie I encountered. The first zombie I encountered I got it with the pistol but then I ran out of ammo and didnt find anymore so I had to use the knife and yeah I got owned. Is there any tips for using the knife on these things seeing as I probably have to use it to conserve ammo for tougher enemies? I tried hitting it high middle and low but it never got pushed back and then it grabbed me and they seem to take a shit ton of hits

Playing as Jill btw

It's best to just avoid zombies that you don't have to kill. The knife is pretty inconsistent but there's enough ammo in the game that you can clear out enemies that are in tight hallways and just leave ones that you can get around somehow.

Yeah I think that's going to be my strategy going forward. I was mainly engaging them all just to get used to the combat but yeah I guess that isn't exactly a good strategy to go through the game with. Still kinda getting used to the controls.

I found some ammo this time around and THANK GOD this isnt like Silent Hill 4 where each individual magazine you find takes up an inventory slot. Kind wish each individual herb you find doesnt do that as well but cant be choosy I guess. I understand limited inventory adds to the challenge but it gets really annoying sometimes especially in puzzle based games where you have to find certain items to advance and still keep weapons and ammo and health items

Mine are pretty simple. I like to use deer meat though. A lot of my family are hunters and they usually have a lot of fresh ground meet from the deer they kill and it's so much better than store bought ground beef.

Other than that, season it with salt, pepper, cayenne, garlic+onion powder, then some breadcrumbs. I usually just eyeball it all and then just roll them in a ball and then cook them on the stovetop to cook the outsides then throw in the oven to finish the cooking process
