I don't understand what you mean. We didn't get to america first, for example. By the logic "indigineous people have the best claim to the land" China would not own everything. They wouldn't even own Taiwan, for example. But the point of my post was indicating that this is not how land disputes are resolved in the modern day. please learn set theory. something is "all-female" if all of its members are female. if it has 0 members, it's trivially true that all its members are female

Correction: I took a look at the actual source of the website and it's not actually the <acronym> tag breaking the builtin html.parser - there's an improperly closed tag in the site's HTML.

Note that _{1</small> shoudl be ₁. Every browser will interpret it as ₁ and html5lib follows this behavior. html.parser gets confused, looks for a closing} tag, and ends up throwing away a bunch of the page. There's a tradeoff between better following browser behaviors and performance/simplicity, where html5lib is more towards the former

For whatever reason html.parser is choking on the HTML here. The parsing code is breaking on the <acronym> tag because it's a deprecated tag (ed: actually for a different reason, made another post abt it). You can also see this if you just run print(fe9chgrowth.text) -- everything in the table beyond the first acronym tag is missing, which seems to indicate it didn't know what to do with it and bailed out of parsing the table.

I ran pip install html5lib and changed the code to this, and it worked:

I strongly suspect that it stops because of the href attribute linking to the bottom of the page, which leads the program to believe it has hit the end of the table. I am not sure of this, though; I am new to reading HTML and such, and I only learned what I needed to web-scrape

Usually programming APIs won't do stuff you don't ask them to (or if they do, they'll try to make it very clear). Having stuff happen behind your back, even if it's 'helpful', can make reasoning about your program really difficult. In this case it seems to be some kind of error recovery mechanism that's throwing out your table
