I just realized why this topic exists. Obama and the Democrats have been rehabilitating GW for the past 2-3 years, making it seem like "he was a good guy, just made a few bad decisions".

Obama already "rehabilitated" GWB when he didn't pursue actions against his administration.

The hard part in some of these comparisons for me is that there's some dependence on other political actors.

Like the Iraq War is probably worse than anything Trump has done, but congress also passed that. Trump has received a lot of resistance/pushback to some of his worse policies. Does that make him a better president for being so bad that his party doesn't always back his worst impulses? Hard to say.

Like I think if the executive branch held absolute power, Trump would be worse than Bush.

Seriously, there is this weird s*** about the internet calling anyone they deem as a "beta" a cuck, simp, incel, soyboy, etc. Like when did they deem their masculinity get... well emasculated that they have to come up with buzzwords like these.

Again, I think it's perfectly reasonable to not want to pre-commit to a relationship with baggage like children, initial long distance, etc.

But yeah there's something bizarre about the internet people who use those terms who are also essentially trad caths. Like if you're framing things in alpha/beta terms what's alpha about looking at a woman and trying to determine whether you could marry her or not? "I'm using a hookup app but I don't want to babysit her kids" . Stereotypical alphas aren't worried about that stuff. It's not like most of the people saying these things are highly successful with women and thus don't need to "sink" to the level of sleeping with a single mom.

EDIT

Just saw post 3. I would just explain to the kid what happened. He can't be mad at me if it wasn't my fault.

I think your previous answer was fine, I just wanted the topic to mostly be about the child you raised and not how you would interact with your biological child.

I mean you can have whatever rule you want, it's your life. I just think you should consider whether you're "no adoption" rule is based on reasonable things if this scenario would make your mind break if it happened.

I... honestly don't know

I could never adopt a kid or have a kid that wasn't biologically mine. I know deep down a part of me would be thinking "you're not mine". So in this instance, I'm pretty sure my brain would break.

Why though? Like...don't you feel that's a little fucked up? That you would feel more connection to a child you've never met over the one you raised for 12 years because they're genetically more similar to you?

Would you love them less?

I didn't want to derail the single mother topic with this so I brought it here.

After 12 years of raising your child, you decide to get a DNA test after hearing enough advertisements for them on the podcasts you listen to. You get the triple pack so that you have complete results for you, your wife, and your kid. You're shocked to find that your kids ancestry doesn't match up with yours. You start to boil with rage, sensing infidelity, but then notice that the kid doesn't match your wife either.

Sleuthing ensues and you discover that the hospital mixed up the babies at birth.

What do you do? How do you feel?

While that is true they should also realize that a lot of people just aren't going to be interested in or won't take the risk to be with them at all because of that. If anything this should serve as a warning to young women to not get pregnant by men who aren't going to stick around and help them raise the child, and to not treat the men they are involved with and / or have children with badly, so they will want stay

Most of the arguments that people are making in this topic also apply to people who have spouses die though. Is having a spouse die a bad decision?

Also it isn't about an "unspoiled conquest".

It might not be to you, but it is to the people who are calling knowingly raising someone else's kid is "being cucked" or insinuating the importance of bloodlines.

I've even said before that at least at this point in my life and especially if through online dating, it would be pretty difficult for a single mom to bring enough pros to the table for me to sign up to take on the baggage of her children in order to date her. My options aren't that limited yet. There's other baggage that I'm also not willing to sign up for right off the bat.

But that has nothing to do with her kids biologically not being mine. It's not as if I would be more likely to date a single mom who happened to be a sperm recipient of mine.

How is that weird? Its normal for people to want to raise their own flesh and blood instead of another persons.

that itself doesnt mean that they are against adoption.

How did you two jump to that conclusion?

Adoption is raising someone else's "blood" instead of your own. The obsession with bloodlines is also archaic. This isn't a feudal monarchy.

It's just a weird hang up about her having had sex with someone else in the past like if there weren't kids it would mean she was a virgin.

But is completely ignoring someone suicidal good for them? Sometimes every option has it's cons. I'm sure it's better than the person feeling like no one cares. I don't know what your solution is. You can't force someone to see a professional.

They SHOULD see a professional and sometimes the only way to get that to happen is to cut them off. You're not helping someone in the long term by "talking them off the ledge" every month.

what are people's problems with it

Hamilton is portrayed as an immigrant hero but was scummier than some of the "villains" of the musical.

Generally it romanticizes many of the founding fathers and the idea of "Let's have the founding fathers played by minorities!" is somewhat incompatible with how those founding fathers treated actual minorities.

Not letting populous states completely curbstomp the sparse ones is just a bonus.

The apportionment of electors was always # of Senators + # of Reps and the apportionment of senators was based on the idea of giving less populous states more power, so like usual you're just talking out of your ass.

So why don't we just remove the screen and count the whole population of a state as voting for one candidate? Why filter it through the electoral college? Why even get people to fill the role when they can just be counted as a point system?

It just reaffirms the whole electoral college is a waste of time. Remove electors and just turn the election to a points based system based on state population because, as far as I can see, it would essentially be no different to the current system.

I mean, I agree, I'm just saying this didn't change anything.
