I prefer the cutesy art style of the older games, sure - but I can't say I'm surprised. The Story of Seasons games have had that more modern chibi look ever since the Natsume lawsuit ended, and it makes sense to "evolve" the character design to a degree. I would prefer the more simplistic chibi designs from the original games, but look at how chibi character design has been going about since the 3DS in games like Bravely Default.

She still looks enough like Elli for me to recognise the character. It's a step down, and I imagine that the stylistic shift is going to be a step down from Friends of Mineral Town on the GBA, but I wouldn't call it "ruined".

I thought it was gonna be a trainwreck on are with Titans-era Crash Bandicoot or Skylanders-era Spyro. It's not ideal, but it's not unprecedented with the other games in the series and I feel like they're at least trying to capture the spirit of the character in this new game. idk why she needs puffy shoulders, that's dumb, but that's just kinda how Story of Seasons designs their characters nowadays.

I'm particularly passionate about the whole deal with Alec Holowka because I had just finished Night in the Woods a couple months before his suicide. I liked Night in the Woods a lot, Alec's music was particularly fantastic and his programming was so integral to the Night in the Woods experience that any future NitW projects were cancelled by the IP holders. He was truly talented.

I read his sister's statement before I learned about the greater context of what had happened. I read his co-worker's statement discussing how Alec's behavior had made his life really hard. And I saw the reaction to his death mired in the same stupid Gamergate horseshit of "let's harass Zoe Quinn for doing the wrong thing", with none of those people even knowing Alec's name or bringing up his eulogy or anything.

They saw a name they recognised as an enemy, they saw that accusations were levelled and someone died, and they decided that this was a deliberate act of malice on her part and that she should be branded a liar and a murderer for it. That's it.

They didn't care that someone died, they didn't care enough to even know his name. They only cared about blaming someone for it.

You can twist GamerGate however you want. But remember that Gamer Gate doesn't have blood on their hands, SJW drove a developer to suicide thanks to getting manipulated and whipped into shaming action by Zoe Quinn.

That developer was Alec Holowka, programmer and musician for Night in the Woods. The tweet, to my recollection, didn't name names - but it did discuss a relationship in which Zoe felt that she was being pretty heavily abused/gaslit by her partner, and was at one of the lowest points of her life. People connected the dots, using the time period to work out that she was talking about Alec. And then he killed himself when a backlash emerged.

Alec Holowka was a difficult person, with a fellow developer describing him as "the driving force behind the worst years of my life" in his obituary to him. When discussing his death, his sister said that he had a lot of demons, and while he had been working on them and going to therapy, there were periods of his life where Alec's influence didn't have a positive effect on those around him. Of course his death was a loss, and she loved him, but in his passing she acknowledged that he had his struggles in life.

Alec's sister also specifically said "don't use my brother's death to go and harass people", which literally no-one fucking heeded, and they decided to call Zoe Quinn a murderer. No nuance, no wider discussion of Alec as a person or the effect his behavior had on the people around him - her tweet drove a man to suicide, so she's a murderer.

But all this information was available in the wake of Alec's death. His sister denied none of it, and she didn't hold Zoe Quinn accountable for her brother's death. I think there's truth to Zoe's account, even today. The timing and aftermath of it is unfortunate, but I don't think it was posted out of malice either, with intent to harm.

Because there's a wider context to consider here. Zoe Quinn was likely in a toxic relationship with Alec Holowka - no-one denies this. When she made her tweets, I doubt she was in contact with Alec, but by virtue of her not including his name she wasn't intending to target and harass him - just discuss an unhealthy relationship. And I doubt anyone could have seen that series of events leading to Alec committing suicide. There was no intent to harass or harm, and Alec's family bore her no ill will in their official statement, even going as far as to say "don't use my brother's death to harass anyone".

And it's this nuance that those Gamergate shits have always sorely lacked, which is how an unsubstantiated claim of "my indie developer girlfriend fucked a reviewer to get a good score for her game" led to people taking pictures outside of her house and threatening to rape her if she liked sex so much. It's how people jumped straight to "Zoe Quinn wanted Alec Holowka to suffer, and now he's dead, so the heinous, disingenuous bitch murdered him".

Posted on multiple sites, removed from most, picked up I think on 4chan.

Said game was a free Twine game called Depression Quest, which tried to be an interactive depiction of what living with depression would be like. She didn't stand to profit in any way from fucking a game reviewer, as it was free and pretty niche.

This exploded into "ethics in games journalism" over the course of months, because a bunch of rat-faced incels decided that she was worth taking down for this egregious, unproven crime. And when the crowd got big, the energy got redirected towards mainstream game sites for shady review scores and the like.

The thing is that the ethics of mainstream game sites was worth discussing, what with the different sponsorship deals going around - full webpage ads for a single game, usually followed up by a decent review score. But then a guy writes a critical review of Max Payne 3, for which Rockstar ordered a full webpage ad for, and that reviewer was fired. If the issue was about "ethics in games journalism", there were cooler heads who were ready to come to the table and discuss the issue.

But no, it was steeped in stupid, hot-headed talking points like "Anita Sarkeesian is anti-video game! Zoe Quinn fucked a man for a good score! Feminists are ruining games, and it's only a matter of time before there's nothing left for real, hardcore gamers!" It was window dressing to bitch about women.

While I do think that things used to be slightly less toxic, I've heard accounts of how shitty and racist people were behaving about a game like San Andreas when it came out. "I'm meant to relate to a PC, how am I meant to relate to a black man?" sort of shit. I also think "gamer culture" was where terms like "feminazi" kinda took off, at least around the PS3/360 era.

But honestly I think the turning point for this sort of toxicity is Gamergate. Nothing's ever really been the same since.

I had a dream last night that I started to develop an actually decent goatee, but it took a month and a half for the moustache to start growing into the beard. It was not an accurate reflection of reality.

I didnt see Caution say anything directly terrible himself but there were others in the chat talking about how they wanted to own a black person (well, they used a different term for black person) or 2 and stuff like that.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Caution owned that Discord server and allowed that sort of talk. On top of laughing at the n-word and the like. Dude just sort of cultivated that environment, let it thrive under his watchful wing.

And of course, he's a part of a subreddit which accepted a user who spammed it with beastiality porn, and which later contained a post "suggesting" the userbase raid a GameFAQs board and "let the beastiality guy loose on it".

Even if we discount his weird racist discord, it's clear that this dude keeps some questionable company and gets himself caught up in all sorts of non-ToS mischief when nobody's around to tell him what to do. I mean, a bunch of yahoos besieging a government building shouldn't be seen as more patriotic than a lone, peaceful protest by one person to protest racial persecution by the police. And yet look at the sheer number of people calling for violent revolution over pandemic control measures, being unimpeded by police, compared to the metric fuckton of negative attention and outright derision being levelled at a single man for a show of solidarity to victims of police brutality.

It can be argued in the most extreme terms that both of them are attacks on America, where one is an armed militia attacking a government office because they're not allowed to get a haircut - which is currently in effect for understandable reasons, in that hundreds if not thousands of people stand to die if this recent virus goes unimpeded and these non-essential businesses remaining open would only serve to potentially spread the disease to a wider audience - and the other is an athlete taking a stand against an ideological issue, in which he views a disproportionate degree of violence being levelled against minorities by the police - which has historical precedent, and is meaningful to that athlete for his heritage, and which meaningfully affects no-one's way of life negatively.

Also X-2 is actually a good game.

It is a good game. I understand why folks don't like the story, but it's the perfect game for people who like watching numbers go up. It has a similar appeal to FF5, with the job system - perfect for completionists, especially since the game is built with New Game+ in mind.

I haven't picked it up in ages tbh, a friend of mine asked if he could borrow a PS3 controller and he hasn't given it back yet. I've been getting by on Switch, with Animal Crossing, Mega Man X1-4, Minecraft and Doom 1 and 2. Also about to get back into A Robot Named Fight, since I finally got a pro controller and I can junk my PowerA wired controller with the wonky calibration.

The year is 2014. I didn't have an account, I was just looking for answers to questions I had about Fallout 3, (I picked it up the other day). I was curious about this place called "Tenpenny Tower." So I searched it up, and found a something about the quest for Tenpenny Tower, but the link and topic was called, "Tenpenny Tower: Did I F#&% this up?" And, you know, it was a shitty 2008 gamefaqs topic, so I was just reading through and stuff. All of this during English class in 6th grade. And the teacher saw me reading, and was mad. Not because I was slacking off in class, but because the topic had the word "fuck" censored. And she thought I was being corrupted or something. I shit you not, I got a detention, my dad was called, and showed up to the school because they said he had to come in. I thought that shit was hilarious, that they thought I didn't know the word fuck existed in 6th grade. Then when my dad, teacher and I were all in a room, the teacher was like, "Why were you on that website during school?" Like I was on the hub or some shit. And in response, I shit you not, I said something like, "Your class is boring, and Fallout 3 isn't. What's the big deal?" My dad though that was funny and chuckled a bit. Then he had to pretend to be angry. Stupidest shit I've ever gotten in trouble for. But I randomly remembered it.

It depends on how much she's staying over. If she's over one or two nights a week, maybe less, then dude needs to let it go. He's getting laid, they're having a good time, they have breakfast together etc. Unless he's really struggling, he shouldn't be hurting that bad.

If she's over 4 or more times a week, consistently and without fail, taking showers and stuff - then ask her to move in, or barring that, to kick in some petty cash. If you're one person paying for the resources of 2 people, or even spreading that cost between yourself and a roommate, something's gotta give. Yeah, there's not being financially stable - sometimes you've gotta sacrifice a day or two, because you're getting some companionship out of it. But there's also paying the lion's share of an additional person who's a roommate in everything but name, who's at your place more often than not.

god I have a bunch of old fuddy-duddies who were bar workers at my favorite pubs on my timeline. They always treated me well, and I have a moderate to decent amount of affection for them, but they're all falling for the same stupid covid-19 misinformation shit and it's so fucking frustrating.

Someone just shared this post that's like "we've had the Coronavirus vaccine for 19 years, wake up sheeple!" and it was a bottle of medicine with a scuffed up word ending in "ne", and the words "Coronavirus vaccine" on it. Someone debunked it thankfully, it was a dog vaccine for an entirely different strain of the virus (hence the "ne", not "id" on the bottle).

There's also this woman who has a tenuous connection to my family, who's still friends with my mum. This is the kind of crowd she cultivates: she makes an incendiary post about the Catholic church for its high number of pedophiles, her friends list go into damage control and accuse her of being bigoted against religion. She makes a post about Islamic people "not assimilating" or shares a post that's like "back in my day if you didn't step into line, it was the belt if you were young or being run out of town if you were an adult. SHARE if you think we should Bring This Back!" with a picture of a woman in a burqa, and she gets the prerequisite 12 likes and a supportive comment about "the muslims" being too big for their boots.

Facebook is a fucking trash heap, and someone should honestly break into one of their server locations and just fucking take to it with a flamethrower.

The funny thing about this whole "hero" mentality is that when the people being idolized as heroes actually ask to be compensated fairly for their efforts, people turn on them like dogs for being "opportunistic" and "greedy".

Mark my words, people are going to turn on doctors and nurses the second they ask for more hazard pay or better working standards in situations like this. Suddenly the discourse turns into "money, money, money! didn't they get enough when they were fighting coronavirus?" and "if you were a good person, you'd do your job without being a crybaby about it". By equating them to heroes, it's easier to turn on them when they "fall from grace".
