When public college was affordable, an entire generation didnt miss out on buying a house because they were crippled by student loans. Up until the last 30 or so years, public college had been an affordable way to get a better education, a better job, and upward mobility.

If someone is smart enough to be a doctor and is only held back by finances, who benefits by them not being a doctor?

Don't get me wrong... I completely agree that university costs have spiraled out of control. Just that throwing money at the problem (and acting like it's the right fit for everyone) isn't an actual solution. Performance based tuition assistance should still let that "smart enough to be a doctor" student graduate.

To a point. There's a reason nobody is demanding free doctorates for everyone. The question is when does the benefit of "general education" end? Historically that's been high school, because everyone learns the same thing. Once you start talking college, you start comparing engineering to gender studies and the value proposition is a lot less clear.

I'd also recommend MIT Scratch or Google blockly, the latter which actually renders your "code" into a bunch of different languages.

Sounds a lot like I had to go through chemo and it bankrupted me and I ended up dying anyway so fuck finding a cure for cancer to me.

Nobody cares if somebody wastes their own money. It's when they waste everybody else's money that people start to notice. To provide a medical analog, it's less like somebody getting cancer and more like an obese person trying to get insurance to cover a gastric bypass when they've made no attempt to change their eating habits.

Financial aid often comes with minimum grade requirements. So it's not like this is a particularly new idea. "We'll cover the cost, but you have to at least try or we'll stop and you're on your own" shouldn't even be controversial. For some reason the idea of holding somebody accountable for their own performance, though, really seems to upset some folks.

Debate has been the formal means of equitably comparing opposing ideas for literally thousands of years. This weird meme of claiming that debate is just a popularity contest as a way to dismantle successful arguments against one perspective is just strange.

Yes she did, this isn't some secret. She was born in the Bronx and then when she was five her whole family moved to a wealthy suburb. They could afford it because her dad was the president of an Architecture Firm. She had an upper class education and went to a good University where she interned for senators. Then she moved back into the Bronx after her dad died and she graduated college to bartend and pretended like she never left. Oh, and she started her own book publishing company before that but it only lasted a year or so.

That's not to say she didn't have her own struggles, but she is absolutely the byproduct of an upper-middle-class upbringing.

That depends on when within the administration you're talking. Mattis was pretty firmly against an actual war and preferred, if anything, targeted strikes that make a point without crossing that line. Bolton, on the other hand, was practically begging for a reason.

Trump himself seems firmly anti-war, to the point of being willing to completely destabilize a region just so that he can pull troops out. He seems to be much happier crippling them economically and then waiting for the revolution to happen.

So funnily enough, dq is a big divergence from third person open world games that are everywhere.

Let's look at what many people would consider the Golden Age of Final Fantasy, which is 6 through 10. Each of those games do have certain themes and elements that make them distinctly Final Fantasy, but they each have their own strong individual identity with unique characters, storylines, music, and significant differences in gameplay elements, some of which work better than others.

Dragon Quest games don't have an identity. They're just another Dragon Quest game.

Sure, sometimes Square screws up and you get a bad game, but that's the price of experimentation. You can't escape comfortable mediocrity if you never take any risks, but if you do you get memorable games with much beloved mechanics that are still distinct from each other.

But it is a good dragon quest game unlike how you might compare ff6 to ffxiii.

Hey, good on you for finding variety by having that plain burger medium well sometimes and medium other times. But let's not pretend the game isn't a template they just stamp every so many years with the same types of characters the exact same plot as the exact same art the exact same combat and the exact same music.
